Question Where Do They Stand *SPOILERS...possibly*

I was wondering if i could get a little help, so i've read all the comics and am completely 100% up to date but i'm a little uneasy about something....what's the current status on the friendship between Willow and Buffy??

It's just Willow admits to Buffy that she put Tara infront of the bullet instead of Buffy and that's why she's been so distant...but i just don't know if everything's back to what it was before now....or is their friendship still on rocky terms??

Buffy/Willow have a underlying tension all season but it doesn't mean they still don't love each other. It's not just the Tara incident and Willow's revelation about how she really feels that is causing friction. Willow is not ok with some of Buffy's choices as a leader, such as the bank robbery or possibly deciding to kill humans. She was also not ok with her sleeping with Satsu, her subordinate and someone whom she could never really love.

They still care about each other, there's a handful of scenes this season that clearly demonstrate that but there is tension there. I'm pretty sure Allie confirmed in one of the Q/A's that it's going to be expanded on and have relevance to the overall plot of the season.

I think that the whole betrayal thing from the end of Season 7 has never been completely resolved. That would explain the apparent strained relationship between Giles and Buffy. As for why she's still on more or less speaking terms with Willow and Xander, the crisis with Dawn would probably account for a good bit of that, since they seem to be the close ones now, with Buffy on the outside.

I have noticed that Buffy and Willow aren't as close as they were on the show, but really, I think that's because Willow's not really connecting to anyone in this season. She leaves for what is implied to be several months at a time without even worrying about her friends, she doesn't talk to Xander or Dawn much, she cheats on Kennedy (well, sort of)...maybe she thinks that keeping away from the Scoobies is the only way she can break out of just being Buffy's sidekick without anyone dying. Or maybe she's starting to develop sort of a Dr. Manhattan complex and is starting to become so powerful that she's inadvertently distancing herself from everyone. Or maybe Joss is just trying to keep her away so she doesn't become the instant problem-solver for every conflict (they sort of did the same thing in season 7 of the show...notice that, whenever the Scoobies get attacked, Willow immediately gets knocked unconscious.)

The Buffy/Willow friendship, relationship has always been one of my favorite parts of the whole show/comic. The strain that has been put on it through season 8 has been really good stuff to follow. I have to believe that something big is going to happen to bring them back to where they were, or...tear them apart completely. It'll come to a head at some point, I think. I do like that there are so many different factors playing into it. Dawn feeling like Willow is a mother to her, that stuff with Buffy and the slayers robbing banks to fund their battles and research. there are a lot of secrets and misconceptions between the entire group, but Buffy and Willow, who have been so close for so long, seem to have lost a bit of trust in one another and they need to find that again.

I agree with all of you but, on the other hand, I'd like to remind everyone about the wonderful comment from Willow about Buffy in "The Long Way Home" : "Did I ever tell you about my best friend ? I like to think, in a way, that she's a part of me. That even when she's gone, a part of her is with me. 'Cause it is.". I know it was still early in the season, but I believe that's kind of proof that, in spite of everything that's happened, they're still friends, the best ones, sisters.
