Where does Angel get his money from?

Just occurred to me that when we see Angel paying for his blood at the butchers how is he getting hold of money? Does Buffy give it to him?
 
I'm *alway* curious about that too. Where the heck does he get money to pay salary for Cordy and Wes, and later, Gunn? But nah, I don't have the answer for you. I sure don't think Buffy gives him.
 
I said something about this elsewhere. How on earth does he afford the rent for The Hyperion aswell? They earned a bit of cash starting out but then as time goes by they aren't earning much money from the helpless.
 
It's possible that he actually does occasionally get paid for "helping the helpless." so that would be one source of income. Another might be something similar to a device that was used once on the "Highlander" TV series. Apparently, over the decades and centuries, Duncan, and assumedly, most of the Immortals, would make deposits with various trading houses throughout Europe. Then, 50 or 100 years later, he would return, prove that he was the legal heir of the person who originally made the deposit, and withdraw his money, plus a century's accumulated compound interest. (Immortality has its advantages)

That would seem to be a simple solution to a problem that all vampires must share, namely, there MUST be times when it is either safer or more convenient to pay for things (like passage onboard a ship) than to just kill everyone and take their valuables.
 
Cordelia was always complaining about how much they needed money and customers, so I assume Angel didn't have any ongoing source of major cash, like a centuries-old savings account or stock portfolio. That kind of thing probably never even occurred to him.

I assume he bought the Hyperion with the bag of money he stashed in the basement in the 1950's, and then found still there in the present. And maybe he got an insurance payment from his old office/home being blown up.

ETA: Did he return the cash from "Are You Now..."? I don't remember that.
 
This is my theory: maybe when he was still Angelus he stole and robbed a great deal of money then after being given a soul he deposited it in a bank or something. Then he separated from the others and decided to give up luxury like money and left it laying there. After what happened in the flashbacks in LA he goes to Sunnydale and I guess, with a new purpose, you also need means to actualize it and he decided to use his money to find a place, blend in and protect Buffy. It's a weird theory but it could work.

I too have always wondered about this. I remember one episode, can't remember the name, where they wanted Fred to solve a puzzle and then take her head off her and give it to their king or w/e. Angel kept all their money($10,000??)after defeating them. Maybe he did something similar with any other baddies?

Either that or when we thought he was working, he might have been actually working on the street corner...just saying. 😛
 
For the Hyperion I remember the nerd David I think saying he'll crunch numbers and get a loan or something..also to believe Angel and Spike didn't steal is crazy..Angel has stole from W&H, etc and Spike is Spike...electricity in the crypt 1. Electricity itself can easily be stolen too if you don't fear Federal Jail Time lol 2. Its Television

Was he even paying rent and utilities at the hotel? Can't remember exactly what episode but Gavin said he was violating all these property laws. Assuming that's true, maybe Angel was skipping out with the rent and such.

Cordelia says to him in an episode in season 1 "Mr-I-Was-Alive-for-200-Years and Never-Developed-an-Investment-Portfolio" So I dont know how Angel has any money but I don't think he saved any of it.
 
I never noticed that before. Well maybe since he was an evil vampire for a long time he accumulated alot of money. 🙂

Tapping into an existing electrical circuit, such as would almost certainly be running throughout the cemetery to provide power for lights and various utilities would be child's play, since Spike's power demands would be very small (a refrigerator and a few lights at most) and the same could be said for whatever small supply of water that he would have needed.

In general, where Angle or Faith actually found funds for their everyday living expenses, how as a 16 or 17 year old girl Buffy could rent an apartment and get a job as a waitress in Los Angeles, or, for that matter run a household on the minimum wage paid to fast food workers are some of those mundane little details that Joss and his staff of writers just chose to ignore.

As for how Spike would have solved the same problem, I find it more confusing that he would ever have any financial problems ever again once he uncovered the treasure room where the Gem of Amara was located. In fact, that was the first thing that I thought of when he told Buffy that he could get all of the money that she could ever need when he was trying to get her to leave the Double Meat Palace, as well as why he would ever need to sell demon eggs in "As You Were." As vampires go, Spike waqs a wealthy man.

Faith didnt need a lot of money. Just however much she needed to stay at that crappy motel, which she probably could get several not so legal ways. As for like her leather jackets and stuff I always assumed she stole them.

I agree though when it came to money the writers tended to not focus to much on that.

I had always wondered this and this is one of those things I wished they would explain. I guess Angel could make money from Angel investigations since he had high profile clients like David Nabbit at times.

Ugh! Just another one of those super annoying things that writers tend to do. They have characters like Vanessa from Gossip Girl who is supposedly hard up for money wearing designer label outfits every day, and vampires that don't work living in mansions and living well.

Just stupid! I don't think there is any particular way to fanwank this one. It's just something that you have to gloss over (like how can vampires have sex if their hearts don't pump blood).

Stealing is just so unlike Angel, I really can't picture him doing that. He definitely didn't have a job as he didn't have a real name or any ID. He definitely doesn't have any assets from when he was bad. He was living on the streets eating rats for way to long to be carrying around money.

As far as I'm concerned it just doesn't make sense, but I'm willing to look past it in the name of entertainment.

(Although, if I ever met Joss Whedon I would ask him about this)

Spike, on the other hand, he would totally steal. Even if it was just from bad guys once he became good.
