Where Does The Money Come From?

He doesn't have to deal in illegal merchandise in order to obtain money.

I believe that to be an “international dealer” would be a compliment to Spike, and the destruction of the merchandise would have had much more consequences (or any, for that matter) than him “holding the eggs for a friend”. Of course, he did it for money, and the friend wasn't a friend, at all, but international dealer?

The problem it was that the whole thing was written to bring Riley into the scene, in order for him to show Buffy the errors of her choices; it wasn't a conversation with her Wicca best friend, or her own reflection about what was happening, it was all-good, all perfect soldier Riley who made her break up with Spike...

And again, that's very curious that something like that happened on a show by Joss Whedon.

And how much sense does it make that an established international arms dealer ( Riley already knew about the Doctor, so this obviously wasn't his first transaction in the business) who would be accustomed to handling merchandise valued in hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars, have to get his drinking money by frightening coeds in dark alleys, try to make deals with a Watcher for cigarette and pig's blood expenses, and welches on kitten poker debts? On the other hand, holding a rook of demon eggs, whose value, and possibly purpose, he had no idea of, for a few hundred dollars makes far more sense.

Guys! Angel has money from when he found all that money that was hidden in the Hyperion Hotel by that Judy Kovacs girl.

And David Nabbit paid AI a ton of money for that one job.
