Where does your country rate?

I don't know enough to agree about any of this, since I've never even been out of my own country.

But I have to agree that I feel pretty dam safe in Canada, which I'm grateful for.
 
Damn Canada is super peaceful! 😉. Lol. The US is in the middle, that's about right. What's up with Russia? All red. Most of Europe is really good plus Australia. Pretty interesting.
 
Yeah, New Zealand, Australia, Canada.... those are the places Brits end up emigrating to for a more peaceful existence! 😀

It looks like the only thing that really separates the US from Canada is the incarceration rates and nuclear weapons. Everything else is pretty much the same.
 
I can testify that this map is BS about China.

A lot of small towns in inland China are basically in the hands of gangs now. Even in large cities there are thousands of conflicts between workers and local governments every year.

Yeah, not to mention the "Xinjiang province", which is basically another Afghanistan. The difference is that in Xinjiang, reporters are expelled/prisoned so that they can't spread any news.

Like everywhere else, especially with big countries, I think it depends on where you are. I have Canadian friends that have lived in the US and they definitely felt a lot less safe than they did in Canada. But again, that has a lot to do with location. Here we live in the bush so you know, the scariest things are probably the bears. I think as far as quality of life it's probably very similar. We're very fortunate for that.

It also depends on who you are. As a gay person, lots of countries that are normally safe might not be safe for me. There are some States in the US that I would not visit with the new laws they're putting out. It's not all about violence and crime.

I think that is because you have no experience with them, or with the country in general. There are no states that you should not 'want' to visit. There are some cities that you shouldn't want to visit but that wouldnt have anything to do with your sexual preference. It's not like the news paints it to be... honestly.

I thought that's what access to weapon was. But it might not be.

The map is probably pretty flawed though, sure all those things might be good indicators of how safe a country is, but overall there are always going to be other factors. For example it seem Russia's danger is mostly related to nuclear weapon. But that doesn't necessarily make Russia unsafe for Russians.
 
That Sweden would be pretty high up isn't surprising. We might not have made the top 11 but we were close. 14th out of 163 isn't that bad. Society & Security (1,3/5) and Domestic & Int. Conflict (1,1/5) were great but we lost some for Militarisation (2,2/5). Probably from exporting weapons.
 
It is interesting - and can be interpreted differently. I am really interested in real world opinions of your own home countries. Thanks for sharing.

This probably isnt accurate in all sense of the word peace - I think Iceland ranked so high because they dont have an army?

What counts as safe? I too live in a safe country, but certain rules apply that make it safe. And then safe compared to what? Compared to the horrors of the world, yes I am very safe. I am safe because I know - I cant expect to walk down the street at night alone. I know I can wear what I like. I know that I cant publicly wield a weapon. I know I can drink the water from the tap.

Im interested in China - I honestly havent heard much about the country in a few years!

Japan surprised me being so high.


The US is closer in ranking (103) to russia (151) than it is to Indonesia at 42. Australians are cautioned about the dangers of Indonesia regularly, and the horror stories are amusing but sometimes deadly.
