Where Should Spike Be?

Imagine for a moment that you're Joss Whedon. You have Buffy Season 8 in production, and Angel Season 6 is just about ready to be released. You have the choice of where to include certain key support characters (primarily a certain blond vampire with a long black leather coat). Okay, lets be blunt. Where would you put Spike? Should he stay in LA and be a thorn in Angel's side, or should he be reunited with the Sunnydale gang and help train all of the little Slayerlings the way he did back in Sunnydale? (Keep in mind here that I don't NECESSARILY mean to imply that, if Spike were returned to Buffy, any really great permanent romance would have to be involved, I just feel that they make a much better team than the two vampires do)

I would say have him go with buffy and the gang, i liked him better in sunnydale too, but i really havent watched much of angel and him, but still, i think that even if it wasnt romantically, there would be more of a story to follow with him and buffy especially after what happened with then towards the end of s7

Since (rumor has it) Angel Season 6 is supposed to pick up IMMEDIATELY where S5 left off, Spike will obviously be there--at least for a little bit. Big fight and all, dontchaknow. But I agree that he should ditch Angel ASAP and head out to find Buffy. She needs all the Slayer-training help she can get.

I personally feel that the aging Vampire should be in LA.
Buffy has this kind of Candy Floss veneer and no matter how hard it tries, it just doesn't shake off the image that youngsters can tune in and not be offended(even though we know thats not entirely true).
Angel, on the other hand, Angel has an adult quality that, in my mind(and as a 25 year old) is far more appealing and honestly, thats where I want certain characters(Spike) to be.

I also think that this is the reason Faith works better in LA and i'm pretty confident that a character like Robin Wood would have been pretty interesting there.

Willow epitomises everything taht is Buffy the Vampire Slayer and that is evidenced in Orpheus, great episode but quite alot of it felt childish.
Xander and Giles are other characters that I fear wouldn't suit LA, but interestingly Wesley and Andrew are characters that do fit that world really well.

Now, you just might have the roots of a great idea there. Let's send Wood to LA to replace Gunn, Andrew to replace Wesley, Willie the bartender to replace Lorne, and Kennedy to replace Fred/Illyria,. Then we can bring Spike back to Buffy where he belongs and team Faith and Illyria up together, and make the four of them a freelance team traveling all over the world handling apocalypse magnitude disasters. Now THAT would be a kick ass comic book !!(Buffy, of course, not Angel)

This is a really interesting question that i've been thinking about too - I once read a post that said that Spike was like the little black dress of the buffyverse - that he could fit with any character and make it believable and interesting. I think this is so true. I would prefer him to return to Buffy permanently but would settle for him making extended visits into her world as need dictates.

I'd like to see him back to sunnydale! Then, Buffy and Spike could be together! ^^ I really like Angel and the 5th season was great but for me Spike should stay with Buffy. 🙂

Where Does Spike Belong...

I agree that Spike was good in Sunnydale, but the reason that he was so good there was that Buffy was there. Face it, they just "dance" well together, whether as friends, lovers, or mortal enemies. Spike belongs where Buffy is. Buffy belongs where Spike is. They compliment each other in a way that Buffy never did with Angel, Riley, or any other male in the Buffyverse.

In LA, Spike would spend half of his time snarling and snapping at Angel, the way two alpha males would do anywhere. With Angel, Spike has, at best, a place to hang his duster and sip pig's blood after hopefully managing to do a little good between bickering sessions. In Scotland, or wherever the Slayer and her vampire choose to set up their base of operations, they can teach their baby Slayerettes how to stay alive and avert the occasional apocalypse. Buffy and Spike prove the statement that the whole is truly greater than the sum of its individual parts.

I agree with BotD. (Do you really? Yes, I do... weird, huh?)

Spike works better on Angel because the world of Angel is a more adult one and in the last few seasons Spike has really grown up a lot. Also, whereas a large group of the fans is revolted by the Spike/Buffy chemistry (an equally large one being revolted by Angel/Buffy), the chemistry between Spike and Angel is pretty much undeniable even by Bangels and Spuffies.

I guess that any character from Buffy could successfully make the switch to Angel and in the process grow as a character. I don't agree that Willow epitomises what the show Buffy was; if the writers would play on Willow's scarred darker side, she would fit into the Angel world easily. I think Xander is more the essential Buffy-character, because he has never quite let go of the innocence and in a way hasn't changed that much. He still embodies the light-hearted world-view, even though he too at times has showed tremendous insight into the way things work. And Giles, well, I think the only reason he wouldn't fit in on Angel is because of Seniority/Authority-issues.

Call me a die hard Spuffy fanatic (and thanks for noticing), but the idea of Buffy and Spike heading up a strike team traveling all over the world fighting the Big Bads that the newer, less experienced Slayers are having trouble with, or maybe fighting a demonic equivalent of SPECTRE (maybe as the Immortal as Blofeld with a pet demon lizard or something instead of that stupid cat) just seems like a series with endless possibilities, both for fighting and romance. It's much better than Spike and Angel making like the Bickering Bickersons in LA. Let Angel stay in what he likes to see as "his town," with a new crew (Nina and Oz would work out well, plus that electric girl for added muscle, and an occasional appearance by Connor when he;s home from college). I'm not just where Illyria should be, but she and Faith would make a real interesting team. Put them with Spike and Buffy, and my favorite vamp would have a kick ass little harem...

I'd have to say... keep him in Angel. Love the Spike, but I was starting to get a bit tired of him in season 7. But he was back to his brilliant snarky best in Angel season 5. I would have kept him in LA, I think he'd probably worn out his welcome and storyline potential in Buffy.

I put Wesley and Illyria together as Illyria's attempts at being more human would provoke humour from her and those around her. Even though Wesley died Spike could bring him back to life as a vampire [ no-one said he can't so that must mean he could ] and Willow gives him a soul, hence, as Illyria see's Wes as a friend, so she would now see Spike as a friend, so they could do the fighting together. As Sunnydale is a hole, all could go and use the Hyperion as a base but work in separate teams.

I also agree with BoTD ... very weird 😉
I'd prefer Spike on Angel because I think (like Angel did) it would be a better setting to develop his character further... rather then all his motivations being something to do with Buffy. When Angel first started I hated the idea of splitting them up, but now it's totally different to me because it was needed, and prolly cause I'm slightly more mature now then when I was 18.
I'd like to see Spike and Angel on BtVS in some way (and no not just in a dream), but not as permanent fixtures.
I like Buffy the most when she's on her own and she's still able to find her way.

I say Spike should stay in L.A. with the "Angel" gang. He worked extremely well in season five, in fact, I thought he was better on "Angel" than he was on "Buffy". He blended in very well.
