Hello 🙂 what do you think of this awesome movie?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_the_Wild_Things_Are_(film)
I first watched the movie and then I got my hands on the book, I know this can sound weird but it's pretty unknow here in Italy 😀
I really adore both, the movie extends the concept of the book and I think it's a great representation of a child's imagination and how children deal with emotions.
And my god the soundtrack is fantastic!!

One of my favorite childhood books turned into one of my favorite movies ever. So beautiful. Plus, it did spawn my months long obsession with this song:

My brother and I read this book almost every day when we were younger. My parents still have it, and I will read it to my kids. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'll probably buy it so the kidlets can watch it as well!

I loved the book when I was little. I really have no excuse for not having seen the movie yet...I love that book and I love Spike Jonze. I will definitely watch it soon though.

As a child, the book kinda scared me. As for today, I liked the movie. Not the greatest, but there was something... magical about it.
 
Haha, this book is so famous! My grandma used to read it for me when I was to young to read it by myself. Later when I was able to read it alone I was scared everytime I watched the pictures. Anyway I loved it! 😀
 
Sorry guys, I didn't really love the movie. 🙁 I do however LOVE the books. I still remember the artwork and the nights my mom would read it with me or when I would read it over and over again on my own! Brilliant because of it's complexity and intelligence mixed with imagination and artistic expression!
 
I saw that movie once and it ended up haunting me for a long time. I'd heard that it wasn't like the book (which I remember fondly but with no real attachment), but I hadn't expected it to delve so deeply into concepts of childhood, empathy, and identity.

Not everything worked and some parts were just plain boring, but the monsters fascinated me. All of them had adult voices and adult speech patterns, but they reasoned like children and fought like children. They looked huge and fierce but they had no internal defenses. It took the impossible, whimsical fantasy world to show how painful and real a child's emotional struggles are.

Instead of Max learning from them, he learned by seeing what was wrong in their society and how he could avoid it.

Not a movie for everyone, but I'd definitely view it as an adult rather than showing it to the book's target audience.
 
I do think that this movie is appropriate for children, they can identify with Max. I think that kids enjoy the story, adults enjoy how the movie deals with children's emotions.
 
I actually never heard of it when I saw the commercial for the film, and even than I thought it was just some lighthearted kids film. When I finally watched it I thought it was a beautiful film, but it was also a bit weird and the monsters freaked me out. Scary, actually. I kinda want to give the book a shot though.
