Whedon has made the statement that he plans to use either Angel or Spike " sparingly" in the Buffy Season 8 series, adding that "You can only play Romeo and Juliet so many times." Obviously we can look forward to no definite answer to the "Angel or Spike" question (though maybe he's leaving the answer to every individual fan, the way he did the "fade to black" scene the last night in the basement), so what do you think? Should Buffy have a new romance in Season 8, or should try the celibacy thing for awhile the way Spike did in Angel Season 5 (Harmony only counts as am attempt, not the real thing)?

Some few scenes in the books hint slightly at a (cringe, shudder, gag!) relationship with Xander, but I would prefer a new character to that.

(Sorry, I sometimes get lost in my own rhetoric)...The question stated once more: Should Buffy have a boyfriend, lover, snuggle buddy, or whatever you choose to call it, or should she continue "missing the sex?"

I don't think Buffy should have a boyfriend or a lover because she said at the end of Season Seven she's not done baking yet and it'll take awhile before she cookies, but I think she should have a sex buddy cause everybody needs sex

Umm.. well a 'sex buddy' can be complicated. While I would love Angel and Buffy to be together, or even Spike and Buffy I suppose... I can't see it happening any time soon.
Xander and Buffy is way overdue and I'm up for her having a normal boyfriend, who also understands her. And I was never a Buffy/Xander shipper.. well maybe for 1min in the Pack.. I know he wasn't himself, but Nick played that part really hot!
Otherwise a solo Buffy is always interesting to me.

I personally think that Buffy should have someone to cuddle up with after a hard day's vamp dusting and apocalypse averting. If she's old enough to accept a non-binding but also non-abusive relationship with someone, I'm all for it. I do, however believe that she needs something more suitable than some "normal" person. Her relationship with Spike proved that she is happier in a relationship with someone she doesn't have to hold back with on a physical basis. Spike's comment about needing a little monster in her man was right on target. Riley couldn't measure up, and that whole thing was a disaster for everyone concerned. I don't think Xander would be any better, even with his magically losing all of that lard between Seasons 7 and 8. Maybe she would be better off with the baby Slayer who obviously has a crush on her.

I totally think Buffy needs a new love interest. While I'm a HUGE Bangel fan and would love to see them ultimately wind up living happily ever after, it's just not gonna happen any time soon (or possibly ever *sigh*). So, I would like to see a new, interesting character show up and steal her heart. I'm not for a Buffy bi or lesbian angle, I think she needs a man. They've paired her with the bad boy, the good boy and the dark and brooding. She definetely needs someone just as strong as she is, and someone who isn't completely screwed up in the head. I think they could take good attributes from all of her love interests and make the perfect man for her. Maybe someone who is half-demon like Doyle, or a supernatural vampire hunter like Connor. Anyhoo, my vote is for someone totally new and unknown.

Connor might be okay for one of the younger Slayers, but I don't really think he should be making a habbit out of nailing Daddy's exes.
New Romeo...Same Juliet

I agree that, if Buffy isn't going to be reunited with her true vampire love (whichever you define as "true"), she should have someone new, and it would almost HAVE to be some sort of super being, otherwise we're gonna have a series of Buffy-rescues-her-boyfriend stories again (and before someone starts down that road...she only rescued Spike twice. The rest of the time he held his own against whatever he came up against)

I wouldn't mind if Spike or Angel played Buffy's love interest again, or someone completely new. But one thing's for sure, I definitely don't want Buffy and Xander to get together, I just think that would be really weird cause I see them more as brother/sister.

i am and always will be a major Spuffy shipper, nothing can compare to the Spuffiness...but even i have to admit that Joss and Co. seem to be heading for a Bander relationship. there was a point, somewhere in S2 i think, where i was shipping Bander, but it sort of faded out. maybe it is time we got to see Buffy and Xander have a happily ever after for a while...i can't believe i just said that...

I just can't get behind a Bander relationship, I've tried and it just seems really weird to me. Plus, if they break up, friendship is ruined, especially if it has anything to do with her feelings for two certain vampires.

By "like Connor" I really meant another person with his characteristics, not Connor specifically, since he is also gonna be an IDW character. I was thinking since they've got warlocks and are delving a bit more into mythical creatures and such that it could be a new character with such attributes. Mystical or human. Gunn was a vamp-hunter and he was pretty strong for a human. And by that I am in no way pushing for a Buffy-Gunn ship. Although that could be a REALLY interesting read.

If it can't be me, it can't be anyone. But getting back to it...no I think she needs to focus on slaying, and of course her personal life minus the boyfriends. She just needs some time for herself. Well you know what I mean, she will never have real time to herself, but I meant without a bf to cling to.

I have for a long time been a huge Bander fan. The reason I suppose is that out of all the characters in the whedonverse Xander is the one I can most relate to at any point and time. There's no doubt that he has always and will always have a place in his heart for Buffy, and not just the friendship thing, that kind of love doesn't just die. So for me seeing these two get together is like seeing myself get that one girl who was always way out of my reach. I know that sounds sooo lame but it's just the way I relate to Xander. Plus who understands her better then Xander? To me Spike and Angel really only understand the slayer aspect of Buffy. But Xander really understands both aspects because he's been with her since the beginning. He's fought with her and he's lived with her. There just dpesn't seem to be a better fit. However as honestly as I believe that a Bander thing would be awesome I must concede that I don't think it would last, in fact I think Buffy is too unstable to make anything last. I love Buffy but she needs to do some serious soul searching before she can fully commit to a relationship...........but some Bander sex would be dope in the mean time.
