One character who I've never understood the hate for. I get it with Kennedy, even if I liked Kennedy, but with Andrew, I never saw why he bothered so many people. Can anyone enlighten me?

Love all his nerd talk. My favorite line is from Showtime: "Keep the chatter down! Or speak up so I can hear you... I'm bored. Episode I bored." Haha I almost died 😀
I also love the scene with Andrew and Spike on the motorbike 😀
And by the way, I never understood why so many people just assume that Andrew (the character) is gay. Sure, Tom Lenk is, but Neil Patrick Harris is too and I don't see people assuming that Barney from How I Met Your Mother is gay. An actor's personality has nothing to do with the character they play and vice versa. Well, except maybe Charlie Sheen...

I thought Andrew was gay, and I didn't know about Tom Lenk's own orientation. It is heavily implied he's gay in BtVS, in his 'love' for Warren and Spike. And in TGIQ, he was supposed to have left with one man and one woman, but the network had it changed to two women (which sparked off some debate, since he was hinted at to be gay).
Andrew annoyed me because he didn't really work at comic relief, just at being annoying. I liked all the nerd references in S6, but when he came back in S7 on the whole redemption thing (though I did love Storyteller), I just couldn't suspend my disbelief like I do with Anya. We all saw him kill Jonathan, and then he goes to comic relief. Really, show? I really loved Jonathan too, and I think if anyone should've gotten a redemption storyline, it should've been him.
Also, S8 and S9. I don't think I have to say anything about his attitude in the comics.

I've always liked Andrew. I think he's hilarious, especially in Storyteller. I don't understand the hate for him either. I get that yes, he was only there for comic relief, but there's nothing wrong with that... In S6 especially it was nice having some comic relief from him.

Well, I figured that Andrew just thought Spike was this über-cool, badass vampire and like some kind of role model. That Andrew wanted to be like Spike.

Ich dachte eigentlich eher, dass Andrew eben treu zu seinem Anführer war. Mehr eigentlich nicht. Aber klar, in fiktive Charaktere kann man immer solche sachen hineininterpretieren. Daher gibt es wohl keine eindeutige Antwort. Wir müpssten da wohl Joss Whedon fragen und der hat möglicherweise auch keine Antwort darauf.
Anyway, that's not the point of this thread 🙂 I think Andrew is a great and funny character.

He had his moments, but I mostly found him annoying. Not sure exactly why. I liked him better in S6 than in S7.
They never really outright say he's gay, but I always got that vibe off of him. He was way obsessed with Warren and Spike, and would just make comments that put the idea in my head. I want to say in one of the comics they pretty much alluded to it, but I can't remember which one.

I'm pretty sure they implied that he was gay. Remember when Spike and Anya were having sex, and we was like... "Spike is so cool.... Uh, andthegirlisnicetoo."
And when he was crying that Warren left him and Jonathon to go to jail and he was like "He never really loved... hangingoutwithus."
Anyway, I always thought his humor was funny. 😛

I absolutely love Andrew *points to button in signature* I get that some people might have found it weird that he got the "redemption" storyline instead of Jonathan, I did too. But I am real glad he did. In a way, I find him way better than Jonathan.

I think Andrew had his moments. I don't hate, or even dislike, him or anything.
But overall I'm not sure he was needed in season 7. There was too many characters already imho.

I hated the purse dog-like Andrew that we met in S6. The Andrew that always listened and looked up to Warren. This got on my nerves a lot.
But his redemption in S7 was a big factor as to why my feelings for him changed. His genuine compassionate feelings were pretty real to me and I believed him. Andrew being on the good side made me love his character.
Plus he stood up from The First. He needs a little credit for this 😉

^ I agree, I think Andrew was a little more than just comic relief. I think he deserves more credit. 🙂
Andrew isn't a character, IMO, he is a caricature. And to boot he is a painfully unfunny caricature. Also, he is the ultimate writer's pet. So yes, I don't like him at all. I can't even love to hate him like I do with say Spike. He is just there to be annoying and that's it.

He was a writer's pet character for sure, but that never really bothered me. You know, this is obviously just divergent tastes, but I found Anya to be pure annoying in S7, and Andrew to be one of the funniest characters. He had so many nerd lines that my own inner nerd found just hilarious.
