Which BtVS Season Should I Buy?

Okay, so I've told myself that once I've finished my history assignment I'm allowed to by one season of Buffy with the only $25 I have. And I don't know which to buy! I've seen season 1,2, the majority of 4, 5 and 6 just started on TV. I'm tossing up between 3 and 7. I'm hesitant to buy 3 because it lacks Spike with the exception of Lovers Walk, but leaning towards it because it introduces characters such as Wesley and Faith, and many people seem to view it as their favourite season. Season 7 I want because of Spike, but lots of people seem to dislike it.

Recommendations? 🙂

The first season I ever bought on DVD was season six, which is why it's now one of my favourite seasons despite the fact most people seem to strongly dislike it. So, personally, I wouldn't just shy away from season seven just because others don't like it. If you're a Spike girl, I wouldn't recommend season three, because whereas sure it's a great season there is only the one episode with Spike in it - The reason I started with season six, is because I wanted a season with Anya in it, and I don't regret that decision even though it's about six years on. I'd go for seven, personally, there aren't any episodes within seven that I'd say aren't worth it - Then again, if you're not a fan of the potentials, maybe it's not the best season to look into.

Maybe the better thing to do, would be to look up the episode lists on IMdB or something, read the quick synopsises on the episodes of both season 3 and 7, and see which appeal to you the most? It's not always a case of what season other people prefer, because you might look for something completely different within the Buffyverse, so only you, really, can decide which season you would prefer to have on DVD - You're the one who's going to be watching it over and over again... 😛 🙂
 
The chances are you'll want to get season 7 if you buy season 3. But then again if you buy season 7, you'll soon want season 3.
Me, I like all the seasons.
How ever if you want a specific answer, I'd ask if you have any of the Angel series? The beginning of season 5 of Angel relates to the end of season 7 of Buffy, as Spike is in both, because of the sparkler Spike is wearing at the end of season 7.
That being so, I'd recommend you buy season 7.
 
3 is widely regarded as one of the best seasons. I too am a big Spike fan, but I didn't miss him at all because all the other characters and storylines were so good.
 
3! 3! 3! 3! It's my favourite season, while when I'm watching the series on DVD, I tend to struggle to make it to the end of season 7.
 
Season 3! It's the best season IMO. It has great plots and arcs as well as awesome stand alones. Even Spike's one appearence is one of his best eps ever. Get 3 now IMO cause you can always get 7 later.
 
I would say 3 just so it is kind of in order but that is just me. IMO season 7 was great and it added a lot but season 3 was very close with the best season behind season 2. So it all depends but either way you get a good season.
 
You should probably buy Season 3 for now, and Season 7 later. (Also, to add to the burden of decision making, there is a four episode crossover between Season 4 of "Buffy" and Season 1 of "Angel" that explains why Faith and Angel form their friendship post Season 3, and would undoubtedly help to explain why Faith finally wound up out of prison and back in Sunnydale in Season 7, and why she is no longer one of the bad guys)
 
I'll say buy S3 if you haven't watched it. The big bad of S7 gets its first appearance in S3. Since Spike is your favorite character, I think you'll enjoy S7 more though.
 
You should get 3. It's a lot better than 7, plus wouldn't it be kind of lame to see how Buffy ends (forgetting about the comics) without really watching it all? I wouldn't watch Angel until you've saw all of Buffy either.
 
I would get season 3 as i think it probably is the best season overall. The arc is really strong and the characters are all likeable and interesting. Spike is my favourite character too but like others have said you don't miss him too much because of how good the storyline is in this season and how the other characters develop.

Furthermore you've still got "Lovers Walk" which is one of my favourite Spike episodes. :biggrin3:

If you decide to get season 7 then you might be a bit confused on certain things surrounding Faith etc, but that season is also brillant so you can't lose really.
 
Season 3 was one of the most "important" seasons in the show, for all the characters. So I highly recommend season 3. 😀
 
Well, it seems season 3 it is! Majority rules 😛 I can always get 7 later, I guess. Thanks for all your input. Greatly appreciated! 🙂
 
Who are your fav. characters and buy the season that has them in it the most.

I mean i personally bought S1 (and over 10 years FINALLY have S1-S7, moving onto Angel S1 next lol).

But for about 4 years I only had S1 - S3, as well.. S1 is generally cheaper than other seasons because it has less eps.

and S2/S3 have spike/dru/faith (faith was my fav character but i've grown tired of her now 😛).

so for me S2/S3 were the best one's (S2 is still one of my favs).
 
Well if Spike is the only thing in the way, consider that (IMO) Spike is better in the one episode he's in in S3 than he is in the entirety of S7.

Spike: I've been alive a bit longer than you, and dead a lot longer than that. I've seen things you couldn't imagine, and done things I'd prefer you didn't. I don't exactly have a reputation for being a thinker; I follow my blood, which doesn't exactly rush in the direction of my brain. So I make a lot of mistakes. A lot of wrong bloody calls.
