Hi, I want to start this post of by saying this - I was kind of a nerd in high school I would be the kid that you would find in the library sitting alone at the lunch table well with my few friends but I was never bullied just not very noticable because to be honest I didn't want to be well...noticed - The popular people didn't really talk to me but I didn't look geeky or dress geeky I just kind of loved school much more than everone else did anyway .... So If I were to compare myself to any BTVS character I would have to say Dawn as much as I hated her in season 5 I still just felt connected to her...

So if you were to compare your self to any BTVS or ANGEL character who would it be???

I would have to say Buffy, she's far from being my favorite character but I'm very much like her. I can relate to her depression storyline, and how strong minded she is. I'm definitely a fighter I'm really open minded but at the same time, I'm very persistent on my point of view. And also, well I'm a bit cocky, much like her.

The way she felt at the end of season 2 when Angel died is the way I felt when I got my heart broken for the first time, like her I isolated myself. The way she felt for Dawn in s5 and how she sacrificed herself for her is very much what I would have done. I've made a few bad decision which I had to pay for, so I could empathise with her in "Empty Place".

In high school I would have probably said Tara, since I used to be quite insecure, dressed in baggy cloth, was very shy, and well now I'm pretty much the opposite of that. Also I'm gay so I could relate to that storyline.

Finally I'm also a bit like Faith, can be self-destructive, very forward, love to drink and party, bit aggressive at times. I'm definitely not to the extreme that Faith is at, but I do have some of her qualities that I can relate too.

There are several characters I can relate to. First I'd say Xander. Throughout high school all my friends knew exactly what they wanted out of life and had things they were super good at, while I was (and still am) clueless about my future and wasn't super good at anything. I spent a lot of time seeing all my friends succeed at things I could never do. There were lots of times when I didn't feel important at all. In kind of the same way, I can also relate to Dawn. It often seemed like everyone else was so busy doing their own thing that nobody cared about me one little bit.

Finally I'm also a bit like Faith, can be self-destructive, very forward, love to drink and party, bit aggressive at times. I'm definitely not to the extreme that Faith is at, but I do have some of her qualities that I can relate too.

I can relate to Faith too. She spends a lot of time feeling completely alone in the world and pushes people away. There have been times when I've used guys a bit like the way she does.

I also see myself like high school Willow. I'm insecure and I care more about learning than being popular. I've been in the situation when a guy I've totally fallen for has totally fallen for my prettier, more confident best friend.

I think one of the really great things about Buffy is that so many people can relate to so many characters in some way or another.

Right now the answer to this for me is Angel. He's the character I really, truly "get". We're not totally the same or anything, but I really connect with how he thinks, how he reacts to things, what his motivations are.

I really understand that sense of isolation that he has, and how that affects his decisions and how he relates to people. I really get his sense of purpose, and how despite everything he's gone through and been through, he keeps fighting.

"Let's go to work" and "We live as though the world were as it should be are two of my favorite lines ever. They sum up everything awesome about Angel to me.

When I was younger and considerably more damaged than I am now, it was always Faith who I could relate to the most. Everything about her spoke to me; her hypersexuality, her jaded outlook on life, the whole "acting tough to hide the inner pain" and the deep-rooted need for love and acceptance. I identified so deeply with her that it pretty much got the point where I would blindly ignore her flaws because admitting to them would almost be like admitting to my own flaws. The only part of Faith I didn't identify with was her sadistic streak (I've never had a cruel nature).

I can identify with Buffy throughout the course of her relationship with Spike in Season 6. I understand only too well the pain, humiliation and shame that comes with being trapped in an abusive relationship which is why I just cannot fathom what is going through her mind over the course of Season 7.

These days I identify more with the stronger female characters, especially the ones who want to make a difference or fight for something worth fighting for. So basically Cordy, Tara and Anne (especially Anne).

For the most part I used to always relate to Willowbefore she started being the super witch and all that. My friends and I took one of those long personality quizzes once though and I got a tie between Xander and Tara and when I think about it I can kinda see that maybe a bit more than Willow. I have a lot of social/shyness issues like Tara and I can see a fair bit of myself in Xander too. I'm not very good at judging myself, that's why I love in depth personality quizzes, but I think I can kind of see those answers in myself! I just hope I get stronger and better like they did!

Oh lots of female characters, here i go...

Anya: Okay, I'm not a vengeance demon, but I do understand so much what its like to feel like I'm lacking a self and disconnected from everything. She's also outspoken, as so am I, and yeah, alot of the things I say are usually met with weird glances and looks. Her death really upset me.

Anne: In Lie To Me, I could actually... kinda relate to the vampire wannabe gang (not the guy with the dorky outfit, though, lol). I know what its like to be so impressionable, because as Ford put it, 'miserable' or 'bored.' I'm the type of girl who if Willow, Xander or Angel talked to me like that, I would actually be hurt. I would say 'other opinions such as yours are valid'. Yeah I'm sensitive. However, on Angel, I absolutely adore her even more, so when Gunn says 'what if it all doesn't matter?' She replies, with quite possibly one of my favourite lines in fiction, I'd get this truck packed before the new stuff gets here. Wanna give me a hand?' True role model.

Willow seasons 1-5: Like her in Restless, I feel that all of my growth as an individual in the last year or so is just a mere 'costume' and the real me has never kind of changed.

Tara: Shy, yet over time, she becomes stronger. Her emotions are her strength.

I can relate to Clem. Happy to be alone or with people he knows, but quite self-sufficient and not dependent on anyone else's opinions. I would be the person you would trust Dawn with and you can often find me in possession of junk food, just like him.

But I don't eat kittens.

Angel. It's always been Angel.

I feel like I think in the same way Angel does. I see so much of my own thought process in him. Even when I don't agree with (or downright hate) the choices he makes, I can always understand how he came to those decisions. I think a lot of it has to do with how he keeps striving to be a better person, even when he doesn't truly believe he deserves to be better. I find his will completely inspiring, especially when he looses sight of his purpose and claws his way back to find it again. That resonates with me more than anything, because I lose sight so often and he reminds me that I can pull it back again. Then there's the little things, like how he decorates the places he chooses to live in, how those places are always "big" spaces with high ceilings (I like to think he needs that much space for all his thoughts), his love of the arts, the way you can tell that he loves having a family around him to look after, his loyalty and how he finds peace in being on his own. There's a thousand other things, but ultimately, I see so much of myself in Angel that he makes me feel like I can do anything, because he is doing such impossible things.

Well, this is an interesting point in my life to ask me this question.

In my younger years, I related a lot to Faith. More so than any other character. I've grown and healed an exceptional amount, so that relation is almost non-existent these days. The sadistic nature is the one part of Faith, the only part of her, I never related to. I've never had a penchant for cruelty. I could have, at one point in my life, but I'd chosen another path long ago.

Prior to the mindset that recent events have led me to, I really related to Tara. For a myriad of reasons. Very shy, very hidden, very low self esteem...The works. I lived my life in shadow. And then I found my Willow and I was brought out of that. For a time.

These days, I very much relate to Buffy in Prophecy Girl, the bit where she broke down to Giles and Angel after finding out that she was destined to die. I relate to Buffy towards the beginning of season 4, being thrown from her comfort zone into a totally new environment and the concept of dealing with it eluding her. And finally, I relate to Buffy in season 6. Cutting herself off, giving into self destructive behavior just to feel, the works. "Something to Sing About" is absolutely my anthem these days. "There was no pain, no fear, no doubt 'til they pulled me out of heaven." just screams at me. It lives in my very skin.

In a way, I've always related to Buffy, because I've always been a fighter. I've always had the weight of the world on my shoulders. I've always been strong. And I've always lived in the world without really being of it. It's different this time around, though.

Well I'm sarcastic like Xander, But its mostly Buffy. The whole me against the world thing, yea that's me. I used to feel like that for stupid reasons growing up but lately I feel like that because I'm a single mother. People help a little but at the end if the day its only me. I mean I don't save the world or nothing lol but I can relate to her on that note. Plus I used to be a spoiled brat as a kid and grew out if it, just like her. She's way more forgiving and then me with certain things though. Also its funny cause I don't even like Faith that much but I was thinking that if I was a slayer I'd probably be more like her. Always wanna kick everyone's ass, cuz I totally feel like doing that now sometimes lol.

I can relate to Willow, considering that I've never really had that many friends, and I do remember being picked on quite a lot during my 7th grade year. It really was hard to take. I kinda wish I had discovered the show earlier than I did, because it possibly could have helped me during that time. Goddess knows I needed something that did.

I can also relate to Tara in some aspects, since I usually am quite shy when I'm around new people, or even people I don't normally talk to. As a result, if I'm not around people I'm on good terms with, I tend to be extremely quiet.

This relates more to Buffy's mentality at the beginning of the series, but I do feel as if I don't have a 'normal' life. I really wish I did, but I don't.

Brought a good point about the not normal part linking us to Buffy, I feel a bit like that too, maybe it's why I like the show so much
Willow for me. I was also a nerd in school who was slightly awkward in large social groups. Plus I started coming to terms with my sexuality around the same time she was.

Also probably a bit of Buffy in that I can sometimes be a little too confident in myself and headstrong.

I can relate to the Willow part too! Was also a nerd and actually came out at 19, same as Willow
Wesley for me,he was a nerd and a clutz who was not accepted by his peers. He was constantly ridiculed and mocked. He grew to change who he was,he became tougher, and as all the pain of his former self boiled to the surface he tapped into a darker side of himself. Add to this his being abandoned by all his friends as well as his tragic loss of the woman he loved so much and his tumultuous childhood and his insecurities as well as his awkward silliness and his difficult feelings for his cruel father. These things and maybe others are the reasons i can relate to this wonderful character. but in addition to him being relatable i find he inspires me to become the man i wish i was rather than stay the man i am. a hero who's experienced darkness, but never let the darkness own his soul. A character whos never stopped changing and done the right thing no matter what the cost to himself or others,a man of impeccable character.
