Which cast members have found the most success outside of Buffy/Angel?

I think I would have to go with Alyson Hannigan, who spent nine years on "How I Met Your Mother" and starred in all four theatrical "American Pie" films. A strong case can also be made for David Boreanaz on "Bones", which has been on the air for 10 seasons and counting.

Definitely. Seth Green has a massive film/voiceover career and Danny's made quite a name for himself as a writer, which includes writing both the Hunger Games: Mockingjay movies, creating his own cable TV show (Empire) and winning an Emmy for writing Game Change.

On that note, Jason Hall, who played Oz's buddy Devon. He wrote a little movie called American Sniper and got nominated for an Oscar.

Didn't know that about Strong or Hall then again not sure anyone wants to claim ownership of AS right?
Tony Head has been in quite a few things since Buffy- Manchild, Doctor Who- cameo, Merlin- recurring, some show on SyFy about Angels.
He's also currently in a sitcom called You, Me And Them' about a 'May to December' romance (with Gwen from Torchwood). From what I've seen I wouldn't call it funny exactly, but somebody must like it because its on its 2nd season.

Dominion. That's the angel show. He's great but don't care for the rest of the show. And i wanted to see the Other show you mentioned
Nicholas Brendon has been in countless comic cons, can't forget him! Coming to yet another convention near you. Yes, again.


(I know, I know, he's done some things).

Maybe a more interesting question is who has done the least, fallen off and disappeared. Several people in the running for that.
 
Really? Who would that be? I thought all the main cast have managed to struggle by with at least some sort of career.

marc blucas, charisma carpenter, a lot of people.

It's all relative, of course, and some people will point to all of the minor things they have done and tell you they have been very busy and successful, but I wouldn't call their careers successful (by the standards of how I would judge them for this thread).

Having worked in the 'industry' myself can I say that any actor these days that manages to get any boughts of work in anything these days is doing damn well. Remember only a very few actors manage to get any work at all, let alone high profile stuff.
 
Naturally I'll run to Charisma's defense 😛
I'll admit she's not super famous and her career may have peeked, but she starred in The Lying Game, Psychosis and 2 of The Expendables movies. She also hosted "Surviving Evil" recently. That's certainly not as successful as David or Alyson with their consistently popular shows; but I'd at least put her on par with SMG or Michelle Trachetenberg.

I haven't seen Emma Caulfield in anything for a long time... unless she's just in stuff that I don't watch.

I'd say those who have done best are the ones who've had the most stable jobs. So David Boreanaz, Alyson Hannigan, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Head, Seth Green.
Then those who have consistent recurring roles like J. August Richard, Amy Acker.
 
My pick is probably ASH. I feel like he's constantly employed/in demand, i.e. he's versatile enough to skip around and do a lot of things, even if he may not be a household name.

Actors like Alyson Hannigan (who kind of can only play one role in my opinion) and David Boreanaz have kind of lucked into these long-last shows but once they're over... I can't really see them being able to pick and chose other possibly successful roles. To be honest, while I like them, I do think they're kind of limited in range.
 
I think the one that found the most success is probably Jeremy Renner. He's been nominated for two academy awards, has three tentpoles attached to his name (Mission Impossible, Bourne and Avengers) he's won a SAG award and has had his songs on soundtracks. The only question is do you consider him a "cast member"
 
All actors have being doing something, sure, but if the question is the most success, equal to what they have doing BtVS and Angel, I think is David Boreanaz, Alyson Hannigan, Nathan Fillion, Seth Green. If I sit to watch TV and by chance see Amy Acker, Nick Brendon or James Marsters, or have to look on the internet to find out what they are doing, I think they are working, but not having the same success.

Charisma was in Veronica Mars with Alyson Hannigan.

She was also in the Expendables for about 3 minutes, can't forget that!

Marc Blucas was in some crime drama set on the mexica border- not sure what happened to it. He was also in that new series 'Stalker' as a reformed nazi biker 🙂eek🙂

Both of them were in 'Blue Bloods' for an episode each. MB looked damn goood. He played a likeable, charming actor guy with a 'secret'. And like DB, has gotten better looking with age.
 
Blucas was also in the underrated Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. More recently Carpenter was a guest spot in Sons of Anarchy.

Since that was the question. I'm not saying that they're unsuccessful, I just feel like the term is kind of vague because everyone defines what success is differently.
 
Blucas was a main character in Necessary Roughness, which I think ran for three seasons. Hardly 'nothing'.

I never understood this 'who had the most success' thing. If you're making money doing something that you love, which arguably every single member of this cast is doing, then doesn't that equal success?

Yes, a few of the cast are more well known than others, but I wouldn't hesitate to say that they are all very successful in this very tough world.

I think for women of a certain age if you can continue to get guest appearances and what not then it would be a success. There aren't many roles for 'aging' women.
 
I think a minor role in a big Hollywood film is a pretty big achievement.

But to be honest the only way I'd flat out say someone wasn't successful is if they just hadn't gotten work after or didn't continue doing what they loved.
Like take Amber Benson for example, she's done bits of acting here and there, but her main focus these days seems to be writing. She's had quite a few books published, so I'd say she's successful; even if she's nowhere near as big as Rowling or Tolkien etc.
