Which character from Buffy would you save. As we all know many of our favorite characters have died,so was wondering if you could only save one character, who exactly would it be. I will do one for Angel the series in a while 🙂

This is kind of tough, but I thought all the characters who died served a purpose in the bigger plot with their death. Snyder, for example, doesn't have much use beyond the High School setting, even if I would have loved for him to stick around.

I ultimately voted Mr. Trick because he seemed pretty cool. He would have had to be dusted eventually, but I wouldn't mind him as a recurring villain in seasons 4 or even 5 beforehand.

It's kind of weird because as much as I hate the death of some characters, namely Jenny and Tara, I feel like every death was so important to the storyline or meant so much, and many offered extremely powerful scenes, heck even funny scenes (Snyder). So I'm not even sure if I would want to take any deaths back. Many of those deaths are also counted as some of my favourite scenes or episode in the series. Just a few examples;

The Body - one of the most powerful episode I have ever seen, and I don't think I have ever connected with a moment on TV like that ever before.

Passion - gruesome, hurtful, beautiful, torturous, this death had so many emotions, I don't think I'd want to take away this episode, which is in my top 5 eps of BtVS

Tara's death - pure surprise, and I mean like shock that didn't leave for 2 weeks. A TV show had never surprised me like that before, and I don't think it ever will again. Plus we get DW, my favourite bad guy in the verse

But if I had to choose, it'd be a toss up between two characters, Tara and Giles. Tara I would actually had preferred if they brought her back after her death, so technically I still want the death, I just don't want her to stay dead. Giles, well scrapped that whole death because killing Giles is like killing the franchise, you cannot touch one of the core Scoobie. Just don't. Bad Joss.

I kinda think it would suck to have everyone you care about die.

You're missing Giles. That may be a mercy for him.

Maybe an unorthodox choice but I went with Principal Snyder. His death was mostly comical (as comical as a thing like that can be) and didn't serve more of a purpose than for us to see the nightmare principal being eaten by a giant snake demon.

Buffy's death is beautiful (plus she comes back)
Joyce's is natural and serves a purpose
Tara's is naturally unnatural but also serves a purpose
Anya the flight not fight girl dies fighting the good fight, that's beautiful
Jonathan sad death that also served a purpose
Jenny same as Jonathan
Warren not sure I care enough to 'save' him. I'm not saying I think he deserved to die like that I'm just not invested in the character
Mr Trick was funny but ultimately not someone I mourn
Spike - when does Spike die?

Tara.

Tara's death served an immediate purpose, granted, vengeance plot, Dark Willow, end of the world. But after that nothing really.
Willow didn't grow as a result of it. Plus we ended up with Kennedy in the end. 🙁

But to be honest I'm usually totally against ressurrection of any character, it cheapens the genuine drama of the tragic event.

Giles in the comics is an exception to this, because 1) It was an earned second chance that Angel & Faith spent all season working towards. 2) He was going to be consumed by Eyghon, and 3) His death changed his character in an understandable way, and changed his dynamic with pretty much everything he knew, but he's still recogniseble Giles.

agree with you,but i didn't mean to ressurect a character, just to keep them from dying period. sorry for not really clarifying :)
Even though their deaths have a purpose it's still sad to see them go. I picked Jonathon because he didn't deserve to be murdered. Neither did Jenny or Tara but they were basically used to raise the stakes of the big bad for the season. Jonathon's death really only has to do with Andrew's guilt for killing him later on. And since we can do without Andrew, I think Jonathon would be the one I save.

Wait, Giles died?!? Is that a comic book spoiler? That sucks...

I think I would also save Tara (from everyone on that list). I think where it was left with everyone else is okay with me. It seems to me that there was a lot more of story/relationship potential still with Tara, whereas it could be argued with regard to the others that their contribution to the show had been resolved for the most part.

Oops, Sorry! But Giles gets better, sort of.

you nailed it
Joyce, probably. Although I'm not really sure how you could have saved her. Her death was natural, and I'm not sure you should mess with nature using spells and stuff. My second choice would be Tara.

My assumption was that all the rest of the characters would die. So I chose Spike figuring he would most be able to deal. The thought of Buffy grieving everyone is kinda gut-wrenching.

I went with Mr. Trick. I thought there were way more interesting stories that could have been told with him. I didn't choose Buffy and Spike because they're both alive by the end of both series'.

Tara isn't my favourite character so I surprised myself by immediately picking her (sorry Buffy!). She's just so innocent. Her death wasn't a huge sacrifice for the greater good, she was gunned down. So I would save her.
