I watched the episode recently with a group of friends and realised that when we were all forced to chose our favourite song from the episode we all came up with different ones...

Personally i think it's a tie between Spikes "Rest In Peace" and.. "I've got a Theory/Bunnies/If we're Together"

I wanted to know what everyone else thought 😀

for me its the giles and tara under your spell and wish i could stay duet, loved it the voices blended the lyrics rocked it was all good

The breakaway pop hit is 'Under your spell'.

Ballads generally are the ones that catch people (look over the history of chart success and see what genre has spent most time at number 1 - I Will Always love you, Everything I do, Love is all around and My heart will go on - the four biggest songs in UK history not including Reality Tripe) and hook someone into a musical.
Of all the songs as well, its the one that requires the least amount of knowledge/understanding of Buffy and the episode.

If one song had to be released, this one would have been it.

Theory isn't at all a beak away hit (as much as I love the song).
Rest in Peace is a good follow up song to be released though.
The song also sets the tone for the musical, so Rest in Peace would be a little misleading as you would expect it to be a rock musical.

NOW if you're asking personal favourite - thats different.

"Under Your Spell", "Rest In Peace", "Standing", OR "Walk Through the Fire". Those were the four best. And I could jam to either of them in the car.

My vote would go to "Where Do We Go From Here?"

This is the only song that can apply to a multitude of situations when taken out of the overarching framework of OMWF.

"Under Your Spell" would also be close, and possibly "Standing." But I think that "Where Do We Go From Here" wins. 😉

(For the record, it is not my favourite 😉)

Standing. Definitely Standing. hat's my vote 😀 I just think it was wonderfully done and I love the tome adn the musical underscore and everything 🙂

Going Through the Motions could be a hit, she sings better than Britney. Who doesn't.

I think Under Your Spell stands out as being the breakaway pop hit.

Under Your Spell.

It's that type of song you accidentally catch yourself humming at the most random moments and seems to me like something you'd hear on a "best of 80s, 90s and today" radio station. It's really flowy and beautifully sung.

Im with everyone else for Rest In Peace and Under Your Spell

Tho I wish it was The Parking Ticket and The Mustard

Again, I'm LOVING your banner! The "Hey I've died twice" cracked me up, and once again there's a peeper. :D
Pff, too many to choose. Probably Rest in Peace.
I mean, even Anya questioned it 'Would you say it was a breakaway pop hit or more of a book number?' I always find myself answering that one. 😉
Also, Under Your Spell. Amber has a beautiful voice. 🙂

Well, "Walk Through the Fire" was the one that got made into a video, wasn't it? (I definitely remember that one airing on the music video stations, even if only for a few days.) So I guess they answered this one for us.

And as for favorites... we had this poll here (thread full & closed by now), with an almost exact tie in the end between WTTF and RIP (no surprise there for me).

They got....the mustard....OOOOOUUUUTTTT!!!!! 😛

I kinda want that as my ringtone....hmmm....

But for shiz...I would say Walk through the fire...but I'm a sucker for collaboration

oh my gosh...that would make a bomb ringtone.
I'm gonna go for 'Walk through the Fire', simply for the reason that it actually made it to our music channel. We had this one a couple of years ago called 'Viva Plus' where there was this show that was basically on all day where you could vote for the next clips to be played, and WTTF was on like crazy! Basically every hour (clips got blocked for one hour after they had been played). I remember this so well because i was crazy about that video (back then I had just seen my first bit of Buffy...I didn't really have any clue on what was going on or anything, but Buffy equalled coolness for me, so I watched it a lot (without ever having seen the musical at that point)...funnily, I even had that song on my mp3 players years before I saw the musical...that song just stuck with me) and a friend of mine claimed the vid was ALWAYS on when she turned on the TV (and she didn't like it, lol).
I think in Germany that clip did a lot for the popularity of BtVS, and that's why it deserves the title of the breakaway pop hit.
