Which goose is your goose

Some vernacular amazes me. This is one instance. Which do you say? And where are you located?

In English goosebumps. But in French it's chair de poule which translates to gooseflesh.

It's goosebumps here but Canada is a large place with two official languages so it may be different elsewhere. There was a popular children's horror story series called Goosebumps, so this seems to be standard in a lot of North America.

The term goosebumps (also known as pilomotor reflex) was coined in 1859. However, it wasn't always called goosebumps. In early 1800s, it was goose-flesh; in 1761, goose-skin; in 1744, goose's skin; and hen-flesh in 15th century.

Why is it named after a goose?
Apparently, when we get the reflex, our skin resembles the skin of a plucked goose. That's why we call the reflex as goosebumps.

That's always what I thought but I have heard it called gooseflesh a lot in the last few months. So was wondering if it was regional.

I'm in CA and call it goosebumps. I cringe when I hear people call it goosepimples.

Maybe it is more to do with the Goose,
have you ever been goosed? prodded in the general area of the genitalia.
Maybe when you take a look at an item you have a gander.
Not to mention what has been said.

But look on the bright side what if a werewolf was the animal, what would
the equivalent of goosed be, when you get surprised by a cold wet nose?
(and don't put much thought into that, this is meant to be a family friendly board)

I never liked goosebumps either (which is what most people say here in Colorado). I'm in need of more options for that condition of the skin.

And when you have all agreed if it be bumps or flesh or pimples, one might be tempted to say your goose is truly cooked.
