Which Highly Rated Movies You Can't Stand

Not a whole lot of movies that i absolutely can't stand but definitely ones that people love that i don't really like.

Fight Club-not a bad movie, just not for me.
Pulp Fiction-i just don't get it
Kill Bill-didnt really catch my interest
Mad Max:Fury Road-while I'd watch it again, i just didn't like it, i don't get the hype of it.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy
The Hobbit trilogy (although they're not being praised by critics, a surprising amount of "regular" movie goers love them)

Its the twist that Kills Fight Club for me, still a really good film.

How many times have you've seen Pulp Fiction? If its just once then maybe give it another go, I was left a bit cold on my first viewing.

Am with you on Kill Bill besides Thurman in the lead don't see the appeal at all.

I would have never considered the Hobbit to be highly rated. I dont even know that many 'regular' people that like them.

They're rated 7.9, 7.9 and 7.5 on imdb.com and have audience ratings of 83% (with 4.1/5), 85% (with 4.1/5) and 75% (with 3.9/5) on RT. I'd say that's pretty highly rated. And I know quite a few people personally who love them.

Yes, this thread is clearly about people's opinions and no one is saying other people's opinions aren't valid. It's about movies you personally don't like for your own individual reasons.

Even Edward Scissorhands, Beetle Juice and Ed Wood? Those are great films which will stand the test of time.

Scissorhands is one of the most finely crafted, and beautiful films maybe ever. Beetle Juice is an orginal black comedy, with great characters, visuals, and dialouge. And Ed Wood is the great underrated Johnny Depp performance. I totally agree that Burton is overrated, but I'm not having this extreme reaction to his work than it was never any good in the first place.

That's why the thread is called overrated movies you cant stand. I don't 'hate' those movies, I just recognize them as horrible and have not aged well at all. They are movies of their time only.

That's fine, its your opinion, but my opinion is that they hold up just as well today. Whenever I watch Scissorhands for example, I still get totally overcome with emotion at the scene in the Snow.

A few I really didn't like were
Magic Magic it was one of those films that starts like a dead wet Squid and continues the same, plus I bought it as a Blu ray disc.
The film City Of Ghosts, I thought a film by Matt Dillon would be good. I won't think that again.
Cats Eyes screenplay by Stephen King, I couldn't believe how crap it was. Someone should have stuck with books.
A classic was the film Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, their singing was pathetic, but he must have liked his performance because he continued to be as bad in that one about the Lone ranger and Tonto.

I'm not sure, I can't even think of highly rated movies. I suppose I avoid a lot of those. At least new ones.

I saw Gladiator mentioned so I'll say that one for me as well. I have tried watching that movie three times and haven asleep every single time... it's just not very good or interesting.

Was Brokeback Mountain highly rated? 'Cause that one was terrible, in my opinion. Just terrible.

Lord of the Rings - Fell asleep during the first one (middle of the day so it was just boredom)
Early Tarantino - Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill
Les Miserables - Just awful

An original suggestion that earns me lots of abuse from my friends is Austin Powers. I just never found them entertaining.

We normally have very similar tastes in comedy. So many films and shows that we'll all sit around and laugh at together. Not sure what it is that means I can't enjoy these ones when the others do.

I've got another one that's current right now and that's Star Wars. I've seen all of them or the majority anyway. I just don't get it. The characters and the story are just meh to me.
