Which Highly Rated Movies You Can't Stand

Hope your Brokeback Mountain 'romp' comment was a joke otherwise that's a tad offevisive

How is it offensive? The gay romp comment is a stupid pun. Fun movie/film about homosexual cowboys. Is the word 'gay' offensive?
It's not the subject matter than I found bad, it was the execution. Plus the poor wives of course. 'It's okay to have an affair if its done for love' and all that crap.

I'm onboard about Austin Powers. Three f***ing movies flogging one bad joke.
I also think the Star Wars films are over-rated, only because their contanstly voted high in those 'greatest movies of all time' lists. Good, fun movies but all of them have their faults.

Harry Potter, I've seen all of the movies and never really understood all the hype surrounding them...

The Twilight movies. I never understood the reason why women like Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan. Even Kristen Stewart hates her character as Bella Swan. Really, she has two boyfriends as a wolf and a blood sucking vampire. But it always felt like, poor me, I have nobody that loves me.

If she hates it so much then when does she keep playing a version of it in just about every film she's been in since?😉

Only seen the first Twilight, and didn't mind it too much, it works for its target audience which you can't say about many films nowadays. Of course their overrated but then that's the nature of the beast.

Don't you dare say that about KS! I think she's a fine actress

I liked her in Panic Room. :P
I even have a hard time coming up with a movie that I can't stand... lol

Mad Max:Fury Road-while I'd watch it again, i just didn't like it, i don't get the hype of it.
Don't get the hype about Mad Max: Fury Road either. Felt like just another action movie to me. Good but nothing special.

Guess I could say that I can't stand some of the comedies that seems fairly popular, like Ace Ventura and Austin Powers.
They are just not my kind of humor.

/SK

@Blaze never said she was a bad actress just that she repeats herself too much.

Yeah I don't get the JW love either.
Never said she was a bad actress just that she repeats herself too much.

I personally think she's a bit bland. Haven't seen too many of her movies but from what I have seen there's nothing that sets her apart from your average actress. Although I did enjoy her as Joan Jett in The Runaways.

I also think Star Wars is pretty overrated. The writing doesn't have the emotional depth or subtlety that, say, Joss Whedon's does. George Lucas himself admitted he's bad with dialogue, so there you go. Han Solo is easily the best character, while Luke Skywalker comes off as a bit vanilla by comparison.

Have you seen American Ultra? As of yet I have not. I kinda keep forgetting to watch it. I've heard some people love it and some hate it.

@Blaze "Not yet, I kissed it when in was in theatre and I just haven't had the opportunity to see it, it's on my list though! I'm not usually one for comedy but this looks interesting"
If I see it first I will report.. I might try this weekend. I am one of those rare cats that likes Jesse Eisenberg and Michael Cera.

Please do! I actually like both of those actors too. To be fair the cast is half the reason I want to see the movie in the first place.

Have you seen Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus? If not, you should do so.
I was actually very tense at the ending. I found myself actually worried over a character; that is so rare. It was a good little flick, you should watch it if not seen.

Never even heard of it, I'll check it out
Then you also hate Kurosawa and Chen Kaige?

Didn't even see the SG post, but yeah I strongly challenge that. I think not only are they brillantly crafted and emotionally engaging films, but they have picked up from Disney as delivering fun, but moral stories for kids.

Then you also hate Kurosawa and Chen Kaige?
Kurosawa was brilliant. Chen Kaige has only directed one good movie (Farewell My Concubine) and it was known to most Chinese people that this movie was actually directed by his father in order to support his career.

He was, wasnt he? When i first saw Rashomon i thought i died and went to heaven.

Didn't know that. I like his films, but then i am a shallow, shallow person who also likes Xie Jin, moreover i regularly watch tdrama 😀

Well ... Kristen Stewart is not the best female actor, nor, does she really have any social skills when she is outside of her character. In my judgment, Kristen Stewart is now 25 years old, and still has a figure of a 12 year old girl. Just my feeling, every time I see her in a movie ... she would make a great actor in a suicide.
