Which Highly Rated Movies You Can't Stand

Don't know if it was highly rated, but it was really popular so....Napoleon Dynamite. Ugh, that movie made 2004/05 unbearable. Everyone quoting that stupid not funny movie.

I couldn't get to the end of that movie. Think it was very misleading to call it a comedy

The second Romero zombie trilogy (Land, Diary and...there's a third one). They were so bad I had to go back and watch the original trilogy to see if I'd been blind to certain faults in those movies.
I didn't understand how a great film maker got so hackneyed and unsubtle. 'Land' was dire/terrible even though loads of people said it was 'classic' Romero. Urgh.

In a film like Girl, Interrupted?

Years ago I read the book and I have mixed feeling about the movie "Girl, Interrupted." Reason being, it was set in the late 1960's with the leading character having the problem of borderline personality disorder as that title did not become standard until 1980. What her character looked to me was more or less social anxiety disorder. Still, just to place her into a mental hospital for over a year is shocking.

Back with Kristen Stewart as a actor, I find her acting is interesting. Still, when she is out of her closed society: I just find her to be like a 12 year old girl looking around for her mother. Do not find her to be shy, but, there is some type of personality disorder she does have. Maybe the fact she really never had a normal childhood as she was forced to become an adult at a early age. Maybe she is at war with her own body, as she does have a figure of a 12 year old girl.

Then again, she has way more money then me and debating her social skills is not my problem.

I fell asleep during LOTR 1, does that count? (I tried to watch it 3 times, fell asleep all three and I wasn't tired, just bored)

I think I may have watched the first Fast and Furious, but never thought it deserved an entire franchise with way too many movies. And, yes, I'm a car enthusiast, so that's not it.

There definitely are some popular movies that I don't care for...
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Wizard of Oz
Gone With the Wind

The Social Network. I remember posting a bad review about it on Amazon, then getting my head nearly chewed off by a super fan. It didn't do anything for me at all. 😕

'Annabelle' because it didn't frighten me like a good horror film should.
Add the Conjuring too! Was so underwhelming after all the hype. "Scariest movie of the year" yeah right totally.
Oh and all of those Paranormal Activities. Have no idea why they keep making more of them its just people sleeping the whole movie!

A lot of action series, YA stuff (F&F, Hunger Games, Twilight, anything Stathom is in, 50 Shades, Titanic)

I kind of liked Avatar when it first came out, the first 2 watches of it, now I just don't bother.

I just never thought The Godfather was that great. And it's supposed to be one of the greatest movies of all time.
Everyone in my family kept telling me Top Gun was amazing, and I was really only entertained when they sang You've Lost That Loving Feeling.

Really surprised you didn't enjoy The Godfather, it is a classic. Have you tried Godfather II? You might prefer it.

Top Gun is on my list of films never to watch - it just looks so ridiculous

It was kinda ridiculous. And predictable. And I don't really like Tom Cruise.
I haven't seen Godfather II but I plan to. I haven't gotten around to it.

One thing I've noticed is that it's harder and harder for me to enjoy new movies, because so much gets recycled to the point that it almost feels like I'm watching the same thing. That's the short and simple way to put it, don't feel like putting out the effort to explaining it better than that. I used to think older people just got tired and not interested in the changing world, but now I see that it's just because about everything has gotten so stale and predictable. Enjoy it while you can.

Though I will agree with many movies listed above. And I really WANTED to love the LOTR but couldn't.

Though interesting enough, I found Revenge of the Sith so tedious that the only reason I didn't walk out was because I didn't want to lose the crowd I was with (and my ride back), and kept thinking it can't go on much longer...it did, at least it seemed to. And yet one of my favorite novels is Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover, which really surprised me.

Back in elementary school, the school faculty liked to torment kids with Old Yeller at the end of the school year. Gods, I was a child and I thought any child dumb enough to play with bear cubs deserved to be eaten by a bear. 😀 And I hated it enough the first time. And then as school ended the next year they made us watch it AGAIN. The third time I protested, and someone said it was to "teach you about death." I said I knew about that ever since my uncle killed my cow (child-speak for how my uncle killed my favorite cow to teach me cows were livestock, not pets...he not only killed the cow, but then cooked up some of the meat and fed her to me, only telling me after I'd eaten her which his son took a sadistic delight in, and is just one of the reasons I tend to laugh bitterly when I hear how children have no empathy until taught it by adults). Back then I was fairly quiet and not disruptive in school so maybe just how vocal, angry, stubborn, and passionate I was about not seeing the stupid film for the third time is why they relented and gave me a pass to go read quietly in the school library. (And I started middle school the following year so didn't have to worry about having that movie inflicted on me again.)

I'm just sitting here reading all of your posts in this thread like HOW DARE YOU. I would probably be a lot more offended if I didn't already read you're unpopular opinions on BtVS & AtS.

Casablanca --- I hate it. The only thing in the entire borefest that was good, you can hear in the trailers. Those half a dozen quotes everyone recites make actually watching the film pointless.

Pan's Labyrinth -- I don't hate it but just can't root for the little girl after that scene when the fairies try to stop her from the thing that she doesn't realize doing will summon monsters and she gets irritated with them and shoos them away but then the monsters arrive and start eating the fairies alive. That was your fault, bitch.

The Notebook -- If it wasn't for the scenes of them as an elderly couple in the home, it would be as forgettable as the female lead with Alzheimer's.

Eat Pray Love -- This film makes me so mad because I read the book first and absolutely adore it. What happened? Was it just a cash grab? Everything about it is uninspired and bland. The book changed people's lives and got so many to really examine who they are, what they want, and where they are on their path.

Prometheus -- love/hate. The actors, sets, and cinematography are brilliant but the script sucks. It's like having a body but no soul. The lights are on but nobody is home. It's an empty vessel that deserved a worthy possession.
