I just got through the second season of The Shield. Please tell me it stays this good! It's just about the most ideal realistic show I've ever seen! I couldn't obsess over it like I do with Buffy, but that doesn't stop it from being so superlatively (my new word) flawless.

That's cool. They both have their good points, I think. One day, I'm more of a fan of The Shield, the next I'm more a fan of Buffy.

I made this poll mainly because these two are my favorite shows.

I voted for the Shield. I havn't actually watched it, but I figured it needed at least a fighting chance considering we're on a Buffy forum 😛

I've never watched the Shield but I've heard a lot of good things about it. But since I can't vote for a show I haven't watched I'll... Wait. Who am I kidding. Of course I could. But since Silum already has done that I'll go for Buffy this time. Buffy vs. The west wing and I'll have to really think about it though. 😉 But it's difficult to compare such different shows in terms of "which is better". But I'll put my money on Buffy on this poll.

I've seen most of the Shield; I'm towards the end of season 6 (of 7 seasons). Apparently the ending of the series is one of the greatest of all times (according to a lot of critics/fans), and as much as I'm looking forward to seeing it now that it's all out on DVD... I don't know, I'm reluctant to finish the series. It really is a compelling show about some very nasty anti-heroes, thus it's one that I'll be sad to see the last of.

With that said, I went with Buffy. As great as The Shield is, I never really cared to see many of the episodes multiple times. A lot of what makes it great is the shock value and twists--they really are fantastic surprises. It's still worthy of being analyzed and rewatched, I just haven't cared to.

Ignorance reigns again with me, not seen the Sheild (well i don't remember seeing it?) but either way Buffy would always get my totally bias vote.

We must have a different program called The Shield as here it is a cop show.
How does one compare a show about the supernatural, phenomena and demonic practises/ theories with a cop show?

Silum
good question ;)
Definitely Buffy. I've never seen The Shield and it really doesn't look like my type of show. I'm also under the impression that they're two different ideas, so like Illyrian asked: How can they really be compared?

"What did you think would win"
Buffy, of course. Meh, I just felt like talking about the Shield after seeing so many good episodes.

"How do you compare the two?"
Ah, anything can be compared. IMO there's no show better than Buffy or The Shield, so I put the question out there. It's true that they're about VERY different things, but, in terms of story, the quality is about the same. Thus, they demand a comparison! 😛

Both good shows. Buffy is one of my favorite shows ever, but I'm tempted to vote for The Shield just because it's a great show and needs the help in this competition. Obviously in a place called Buffy Boards, The Shield is going to have trouble competing with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

For those who don't know, the creator of The Shield was a writer on Angel for awhile, and has said that he owes Joss Whedon a great debt for teaching him a lot about working in television. That said, The Shield doesn't remind me of Angel or Buffy at all but it's worth considering if you've never seen it before. That and the character of Vic Mackey is really one of the great characters of television. He's both despicable at times, heroic at other points, and occasionally both at once which makes for excellent television. I've only seen the first four seasons (though I basically know what happens at the end of the series), and I have to admit the first few are quite a bit better than the fourth. The fourth is still pretty good though. Give it a shot even if you don't like cop shows, because I normally don't but I like this one.

Huh, didn't know that. I looked him up on imdb, he actually wrote some memorable episodes (well, at least I remember them), especially ones revolving around Darla. See how it all works out? Shawn Ryan was a part of the Buffyverse. Though, after seeing the Shield, makes me wonder if he's proud of that fact at all.

Crashing Doors and Revolver definitely have me excited to get the next few seasons. Damn you guys.

I've never seen The Shield and it really doesn't look like my type of show.
Did "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" seem like your type of show before you saw it?

Never heard of The Shield, and if it is a cop show or whatever, then why would that ever compare to Buffy?

especially on a Buffy Forum 😛

lol
