Which is the better show?

I didn't really enjoy angel, even though I really wanted too! There were certain things I liked but I was mostly eeeh about it. Maybe I had too many expectations before watching the show?
I should probably give it another watch as I've only seen the series once

It was Buffy when I was younger, but I prefer Angel now, which isn't to say I don't love both more than most shows out there. Angel fits me better, the mood is darker (not counting Buffy S6, lol) the characters are adults from beginning to end, and there is no shipping to get in the way of enjoying it.

I may ship Spuffy, but I easily tire of the Bangel/Spuffy (and to a lesser extent Biley) wars. Angel has Cangel, but only if you squint your eyes 😉

Imo, there will always be ships. Shipping wars is a different animal; people get territorial, they get mean, they put on blinders, it gets ugly pretty fast. I've never personally experienced, or heard of, any real ugliness with ships on Angel. Also, I enjoy couples on Angel, but I don't ship any one over another.

I think it just sounded like you were using the shipping wars as part of your reason for preferring Angel over Buffy. The shipping wars among fans cannot be blamed on the shows.

Well I'm glad it doesn't get in your way of enjoying it, but it does for me. I literally can't watch episodes like Amends or IWRY anymore, without a bad taste in my mouth thanks, in part, to crazed Bangel shippers who were not very nice to me just because I shipped something else.

Well I'm sorry you had that experience and there is no excuse for it on their part. But my point was that the shipping happens outside of the episode. It has nothing to do with the episodes themselves. There is a lot of stuff going on in Amends. I don't even think of it as that much of a Bangel episode, besides maybe the end (which is great IMO).

Yeah I picked Amends cause it's one of my least favorite episodes, partly due to the thing I mentioned, and partly...cause I just don't like it. Especially seeing as S3 was so strong overall 🙂

Over time, Angel has become the show I watch more. I think the highs on Buffy are better, but overall, as the years add on I find that I turn to Angel more because I relate to the more adult nature of the show. Buffy is great but it isn't as relevant to my overall growth these days; Angel still seems to offer material for me to personally think over and digest as an adult whereas I get limited food for thought over Buffy, especially the earlier years. I still love Buffy but the early years especially were about younger people issues, whereas with Angel I can meet it at eye level as a fellow adult, and with the more mature nature of the show (all in all). Which is why I'm not surprised that I like Buffy S5 best, because it hits that level of maturity that I like while not being bad like S6 (and even more) S7.
