I know that there have been many threads debating which season of Buffy was your favorite, but to the best of my knowledge, there has never been an actual poll.

And I also know that Season 3 would win favorite season easily. I wanted to do this poll to see which season is second place. And I also wanted to get a better idea of how things break down in general. So please vote! Which is your SECOND favorite television season of Buffy? Feel free to discuss your reasons below.

Second favorite? For me that's probably season 3 actually... my favorite is 2.

1-3 classic Buffy, that's where I got for my BTVS fix usually. Call it nostaliga... I just never "bonded" as much to the later seasons. (I do enjoy them, but they don't give me that same feeling...)

I know what you mean. I like 1-3 better but I still watch all of them

gee.. that sounds familiar
Season Two. My first favorite season of Buffy is Season Three. I loved almost all the characters. After, in Season Five, to my go all downhill (freefall), up to the point of no return.

Second Favourite?

Probably Season 5. It's consistantly good, there's maybe 2 bad episodes- it's got humour and tragedy and consistant. logical character development.
It hasn't got the great episodes (apart from 'The Body', and then I can only watch that occasionally.) like seasons 4, 6 and 7, but it hasn't got any real stnkers either.

The characters change and grow, It's Buffy's high point as the slayer.
And also Spike's best season character-wise (Season 4 has him as comic relief and the other seasons...🙁 )

I like Dawn, she has an interesting development this Season. 🙂

I even like Anya this Season, she fits in very well.

Season 5, because it's the Season when just about everything goes wrong for Buffy, but she still manages to beat the bad guy.

Okay, she dies in the process. I said it was only my SECOND favorite.

lol. "okay, she dies in the process"
Feck it, I read the thread incorrectly. Season 3 is my second favourite season, not season 2.

I'm on the season 2, season 3 train.

They are very close but I usually rates season 3 just above season 2.
Season 3 is more consistent and has the Mayor and Faith.

Season 2 has Angelus and the best ending though...
Still, I rate season 2 as the second best.

Completely agree. 2 and 3 are both great. season two has Angelus but season 3 has Faith so it's close, but I think season 3 has less bad episodes, like 1 or 2.

I picked season 2 with 3 being y #1 favorite. I know a lot of people like season 5 but I've never liked it, something about it overall is just boring to me. I put season 5 at my least favorite season. At least season 7 has Faith at the end which redeems it for me.

For me Season 7 is just behind 5, by maybe a whisker. But I see your point.
Season 5 for me also. Though it is close in my case between season 5 and 6 for first and second. This is based on my personal experience of my feeling while watching it originally. I did come initially to the show a bit late, when season 3 was already airing here in the UK. And I was watching season 2 and 3 simultaneously, season 2 on BBC and season 3 on Sky One. So that may be why I don't have quite as strong an impression of them. Still it was season 3 that initially gave me the Buffy bug, so I suppose that has to come up there close with 5 and 6 for me. 🙂

s5 is my second favourite, while s6 is my favourite. Overall I like the post highschool seasons better, which is someone an unpopular opinion in the fandom. Don't get me wrong, s1-3 are fricken awesome, and I will admit that overall they seem to be of better quality. But while s5-6 are more flawed (especially s6), they just speak to me more.

No love for Season 4? Aww....🙁

I'm actually surprised at how many are voting for Season 2. I mean, don't get me wrong I like it, (I'm watching it right now as part of a big re-watch thing.) but it does have an awful lot of bad MotW episodes, imo.

I'm counting at least 7, which is a sizable chunk.

Still, when its good, its really good.

Seasons 2 and 3 are my favorites, although 2 takes the edge by the slightest of margins, which makes S3 my second favorite. (And for the record, S5 is a distant third, followed by S1, and the other 3 seasons...well I can't really get into them right now.)

Overall, I would say S3 is probably the most consistently good season of all seven, and has a lot going for it because it's the first (and possibly only) season where the writers seem to have hit a good cadence. For me, it still comes in second behind S2 because it just doesn't have that extra je ne sais quois that S2 does. S2 is quintessential BTVS, and there's something magical about it that I just can't put my finger on. We may not get the Mayor or Faith, but we do get Spike, Dru and Angelus. We may not get a Christmas miracle, but we have the miracle that is BTVS's first Halloween episode. S2 also still has Jenny (R.I.P.) and introduces us to the amazingness that is Oz.

I think Angelus was by far the greatest Big Bad of any BTVS season, not only because he was the most fun to watch and quite possibly the most well-executed, but because he provided the greatest conflict for Buffy, both physically and emotionally. Buffy's conflict with Angel/Angelus and the consequences of their relationship provided her the best character development and growth of any season (without making her annoying or boring). I know there are plenty who would give S3 the edge over S2 because of all the campy MOTW episodes in S2, but I personally didn't mind them so much, especially when I consider that the show was still establishing itself after a short pilot season. Some of that old school camp was terrible, but some of it is actually pretty fun to watch.

Season 3 is my second favourite, season 2 being my favourite, it was the season that got me into Buffy and has some of my favourite eps

Same here.
Season 3 is my favourite followed by Season 6. Bargaining 1 and 2 is the most powerful intro of any season and it has Once More with Feeling, Tabula Rasa, Gone, Dead Things, Villains, Two to Go and Grave from the Dark Willow arc.

Season 5. It's a very strong season and in my opinion, the best out of the post-high school years.
I do love season 2 and it's close, but I think season 5 has fewer episodes that I feel kind of "meh" about.

From favourite to least, at the moment for me it goes: 3, 5, 2, 4, 1, 6, 7. But aside from the top 3 which are pretty cemented, it can change with my mood.

It sounds confusing when I say my first favorite is the second, my second favorite is the third, my third favorite is the first... then the rest just kinda are all clumped together. Each season progressively getting less enjoyable.

Oops, I voted before I read the topic closely... I voted my favorite, which is season 6. Second favorite would be season 2. I really like the emotional drama of those seasons and Buffy's state of mind, how she's strong but dealing with serious personal issues.
