Which leading champion of both shows would you trust the most in everything and who would you confide in the most with life problems?

Angel or Buffy

Buffy without a doubt. She's been a great friend to Willow and Xander, kept secrets to protect them. She's completely trustworthy and has had a lot of life experience. She's very down to earth and practical but understands the depths that love can take you. She would always stand by you and I think she'd give good advice.

Angel has a lot of great qualities, but I really wouldn't want to sit down with him and discuss any personal problems, and I don't think Angel would want that either 🙂 If I couldn't talk to Buffy I'd rather go get drunk and drown my sorrows with Spike

Buffy absolutely. Angel is not very approachable. Even his best friends have trouble communicating with him. I desperately want to join @Priceless and Spike on the bender they have planned!

The more the merrier! :-)
Add me to the trip down the pub with Spike.

I'd trust Buffy more than Angel. Angel would screw you over for the greater good whereas Buffy would do her best to protect you and would feel really bad about it if she couldn't.

looks like we're going to need a bigger table, maybe a reservation too
Pub trip!!! Do we hit up a demon bar, maybe look for some karaoke?

Oh yeah and Buffy obviously. I wouldn't say trustworthiness is one of Angels stronger traits.

this just gets better and better, yes that is a pub trip at a demon karaoke bar, OMG Yes!
Buffy, because Angel has a nasty habit of going evil. He goes evil at least once in every year.

Also, Buffy is a lot easier on the eyes 🙂

I'd go with Angel (unsurprisingly). Angel has a lot of life experience, he understands people, he's not judgmental (with the good guys), he's a great listener, he's compassionate and he makes sure you're safe and that he has helped you.
Buffy herself went to Angel with her life problems plenty of times. For example, in What's My Line, Ted, Surprise, Helpless, Gingerbread, Earshot, Forever, Buffy confided in Angel and he always delivered. He listened, understood her, gave good advice and a comforting hug/kiss.
There're also the famous examples of Faith, Darla, and tons of clients-of-the-week from S1 whom Angel helped on an emotional level. Compare Angel's gentleness and compassion with Kate in Epiphany to Buffy's "everyone has problems, not just you. My life sucks too" rant to Jonathan in Earshot...

Okay, a lot of people have been criticizing Buffy for this lately, and it's completely unfair: Buffy talked like that to Jonathan because she didn't know he wanted to kill himself - she thought he wanted to kill innocent people in the school! She doesn't learn that he wanted to commit suicide until AFTER her speech. Given her knowledge, she was incredibly gentle with Jonathan.

And comparing it to the Kate situation is completely unfair, of course, because in that situation Angel DID know that Kate wanted to commit suicide. Of course he'd be more gentle.

Sure, I get that, but the speech was still not helpful. It's insensitive to people who have or are thinking of committing suicide and would never help anyone in pain (which she assumed Jonathan was in). After she learns the truth, her "Oh" and "He's been giving me those eyes...What am I, saint Buffy?" are also incredibly insensitive and unnecessary comments.

Buffy might not have known Jonathan was going to commit suicide but her self-centered speech was supposed to help Jonathan (which is why she didn't simply remove the weapon from his hands). Again, her attitude after learning the truth was terrible.

Buffy, for the simple reason that her loyalty comes without question or reservation. She has shown that with Dawn, when she wouldn't even consider giving her up to Glory, regardless of the cost, and with Spike, when she continued to believe in him even after the First Evil started making him kill again. When Buffy says that she's your friend, you can count on that all the way to the end of the line.

Angel, however, has shown too many times that if he determines that his own personal version of the "greater good" is fulfilled by sacrificing a friend, that friend is shark bait. The ultimate example of that is Drogan, Angel's friend and ally of long standing, who he killed without hesitation and, apparently, no sigh of regret afterward. With friends like that, who needs enemies?

I think I would go for Buffy. I know sometimes Buffy has her little moments like we all do but she's proven to be a very trustable person. I mean, Angel it is but it's quite difficult to reach to him to get a word from him - All I remember now is this look of his straight at you and not knowing very well if he's gonna kill you or kiss you -if he ever would do that!- lol.

However I think I would trust more Willow to be my model -with her ups and downs as every human being-, and since she trust and believes in her best friend I'll go along with that and it would be easy to do so.

That might be a bit of unpopular opinion, maybe?

Y'know I was going to go with my girl Buffy until I read @Bluebird and @Carrie Hopewell posts and I realized a guy like Angel is the *perfect* friend to confide in. When others confide in him, he does something that people rarely do, and that's actually listening--no interruptions, no judgement, no trying to prove himself and insert his own point as the only right one, quietly waits until the person's done to offer advice, etc. You feel like he's actually reflecting deeply on what you're saying and that you can admit anything freely with comfort because he's known and done bad himself. Plus, he is so much more knowledgeable than Buffy and has tons more life experience. And he's big and cuddly.

Love your Buffy banner.
Sure, I get that, but the speech was still not helpful. It's insensitive to people who have or are thinking of committing suicide and would never help anyone in pain (which she assumed Jonathan was in).

She was talking to a person who, as far as she knows, was gonna shoot a bunch of kids! The fact that she didn't immediately punch him on the head shows remarkable gentleness. When Angel was in a similiar situation with Faith in 'Consequences', he wasn't being gentle with her either - he tied her up, he said he didn't trust her, etc...

After she learns the truth, her "Oh" and "He's been giving me those eyes...What am I, saint Buffy?" are also incredibly insensitive and unnecessary comments.

Buffy gave a whole speech based on the idea that Jonathan wanted one thing, and then she learned that he wanted another thing entirely. Saying "oh" is just the only natural response. I would say "oh" in that situation too. So would Angel.

And the "saint Buffy" line might have been insensitive if she said it to Jonathan, but she didn't - she said it to Giles, so it's fine. And Buffy is right - she has no obligation to go with jonathan to the prom just because he's in pain.

Buffy might not have known Jonathan was going to commit suicide but her self-centered speech was supposed to help Jonathan (which is why she didn't simply remove the weapon from his hands). Again, her attitude after learning the truth was terrible.

I thought her speech WAS very effective. I think that the idea that we are all in the same painful boat is, in a way, very comforting. As a teenager, one of the worst feelings I remember is when I felt like I was the ONLY one who had problems like loneliness and social anxiety. That feeling of "What's wrong with me? Why am I the only one who can't figure it out?" made me think that I could never get over these problems, because they're part of who I am... It also made me think that I couldn't get help from anyone, because no one could know what it's like to have these problems. When I finally realized (and I mean REALLY realized, not just as a vague concept) that EVERYONE has these problems, it somehow helped me deal with my own problems. So, I can totally see how Buffy's speech helped Jonathan.

And again, her attitude after learning the truth was NOT terrible, at all.
