I keep reading comments where people think SMG should have done, or should start to do other (and I guess better) movies.

Pesonally I think she has done pretty well, at least as well as expected.
Don't think that is so easy to find and get great roles. No matter how good you are.

It did got me wondering though.
Which successful or critical acclaimed movies, that has came out the recent years, do you think would have been great with SMG in a leading role?

/SK

Hm. I cannot think of any movies I wish she had been in but I can think of one I wish she had not been in. THE GRUDGE and THE GRUDGE 2 were two of the biggest peices of poop I have ever had unfortunately taken the time to watch for SMG. They sucked!!!!

I think she coulda pulled off most of the female roles in Sin City...they were just the first things that came to mind...

As far as dramatic roles...Keira Knightley's role in Atonement (if she had an accent...)...I could have seen her as Marie Antoinette as well...

I don't hardly ever get to go to the movies anymore for movies that aren't kiddie movies, so I don't know. I did read, however, that she turned down Jennifer Love Hewitt's role in "I Know What You Did Last Summer"... I think she would have been so smart to take the lead role instead of the role of Helen, who died halfway through the first one. 🙁

I think she would have been awesome as Sydney in the "Scream" films, too, although I loved Neve Campbell in those movies. 🙂

I think she would've done best in... oh, I dunno. I don't really watch that many movies anymore, but yeah, I agree that she definitely would've been pretty great in Sin City. But she hasn't exactly (or perhaps it's her agent) been the one to pick good or nice movies to be in, a lot of them have been pretty disappointing and lacking.

You always have the greatest banners! :) Who made this one?
I would have liked to have seen her in a really good comedy film. I think her comedic talents are underrated, in regard to movies at least.

I think that I read somewhere that she was considered for the female lead in "Stardust," but obviously didn't get it. Beyond that, I would have liked to see her in some sort of comedy/adventure/fantasy thing like the original two "Mummy" movies or a straight comedy. I also think that she would make a great Black Canary if there were ever a movie made about that character, but she might consider it to be a bit too close to Buffy.

She was actually offered the role, but turned it down because she didn't want to be away from home for the length of time of the production. I think it's a pity, although I do like Claire Danes in the role.

I don't have any particular opinion about roles she might have been suitable for. I quite like most of the films she has made, even if her film career probably hasn't (so far) worked out the way she was hoping.

I'e just had a thought on why she picks these horror type films. Maybe she wants us to see her in a more vunrable light compared to tough i can take on anything Buffy. Because in films like the grudge she's scared and shaken most of the time.
Just a thought after watching this:

YouTube - The grudge 2 scene

Yeah, but we saw Buffy scared and vulerable lots of times too...in The Grudge she pretty much has one facial expression throughout the entire film and speaks in monotone.

Plus, she already showed her "horror chops" in the late 90s with I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream 2...continuing to choose horror roles is either just laziness or...I can't even think of another explanation...

Maybe it's just personal opinion. Maybe she thinks doing horror films is fun.

Not a very good outlook when it comes to one's career. Especially when you're not taken seriously by intelligent people.

Sarah Michelle Gellar's shown herself to be a good actress but not a great one and therefore any of the films that I like a lot I would prefer that they didn't have Sarah in, although it may be that she just hasn't had the chance to show off her prowess as a performer.

I agree wholeheartedly. SMG's acting does not even come close to rivalling that of the current Hollywood greats...like Kate Winslet or Meryl Streep...and certainly not the plethora of amazing foreign actresses of the last 50years.

I still wonder if it has something to do with the material she is given/ the roles she chooses. I see little glimmers in her of the potential for great acting - I just wish she could expand on that.

As do I. She really needs to go out for bigger roles or popular small films. I think she would have done a great job 27 Dresses, Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 4 Christmases, Legally Blonde. Or she should go out for some comic movies, if Katie Holmes can land Batman Begins, Sarah should have no problem with getting a somewhat big role in a comic film.
