Which Spielberg do you prefer?

This week Steven Spielberg releases his new Sci-Fi film Ready Player One. Its his second film in less than a year after The Post which was a "based on real events" drama. It got me thinking of the question which sort of Spielberg film do you prefer? Is it the fantasy or adventure type films like ET, Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Arc, Jaws? Or is it his more human dramas like Schindler's List, Munich, Lincoln?

For me its the adventure/fantasy movies. I think he's an old fashioned storyteller who has a love for b-movies. He's much better at creating world's than he is trying to turn real life into interesting cinema. For me at least his sentimental style works much better in the blockbuster style films.

Another vote for fantasy / adventure. I don't consider it entertainment to watch somebody else's life suck.

Fantasy/adventure for me as well. I think the current movies are somebody else's stories so he has to worth within borders. Creating your own world and story from scratch is endless opportunity to tell a story.

Also I think it can be a more interesting way to comment on real life issues. I just find a lot of his drama work to be too preachy.

Many of Spielberg's films have based on fact associated with them but those films have crap written into them, but the film that has the most factual content was one of his films, Close Encounters Of the Third Kind. The guy who said what is actual Alien spacecraft used to work for the U.S.A. government on making up reasons for what people saw.
The Spielberg film I preferred to hate the most was the crappy War of The Worlds, what was it based on. Not the original but Jeff Wayne's musical version of the original.

And then the movies feel too try-hard. He should stick to his own idea tbh.

Probably Close Encounters. It hold up so well for me. But I love Jaws too.

Close Encounters would have been better if he didn't try sculpture in his front room. He should have been like his kids and done paintings on the wall. Now that would have been fun to watch, him and the kids painting on the wall, his Mrs could have joined in by climbing up the wall.

I prefer young, exuberant, daring and imaginative Spielberg to the guy who feels compelled to replace the guns with walkie-talkies in E.T.
The guy has lost some of his spark in his old age.

Leaving out the age factor though I prefer his sci-fi/fantasy films because they feel unique to him and only him; the look of them, the sheer spectacle all seem iconic.
His bio pics certainly do not; although they're of course high quality I feel that relly anyone could've filmed them; for every Saving Privare Ryan (great film) there is a Lincoln (what I would call a 'worthy film', not good)
