Whistler?

i don't know if this has been asked before, but why don't we ever know more about whistler? (i've only seen angel season one so i don't know if anything with him happens later). in becoming parts one and two we see him and the flashbacks of how he showed angel when buffy was called, etc, but do we know what kind of demon he is? why he's good? why he knows/cares about angel? why he knows all about buffy and her friends? was he just a one-off thing or am i missing something?

IIRC, he was supposed to play Doyle's role on Angel, but there were scheduling conflicts with the actor. The character was subsequently dropped.

(Off topic, yes, but I was all, "Hey! It's Whistler! . . . Man, he got OLD!")

I always wondered why we lacked backstory on Whistler, like BTVS pretty much had backstory on all teh major players - and I'd be thinking the person/demon/thingamajig that introduced Angel to Buffy is a pretty big player, no?
Especially whenever they talked about visions etc, and how Angel got the mission etc, no mention of Whistler? The continuity fairy must have been sick those days.

yeah, and he seems like such an interesting character. and he knew all about angel and what would "save" him and we don't even know what kind of demon he is or how he kept track of everything in time to come back and give buffy advice in season 2. it's strange that angel never talks about him or anything.

I agree, I always wondered what was up with Whistler. His character was cool, but I'm so glad that Glenn Quinn played the version of his character on "Angel".... I liked the character but at the same time, I loved Doyle so much more than I think I could ever have liked Whistler.
