Even though the cup in Destiny was faux, if it was real who deserved it?

Angel or Spike

Totally watching it on tv right now. Hilarious. I think we can all agree that Angel deserved the cup of destiny. However, Spike did beat him to it. I'm very indecisive. I pick Angel

The cup was nothing, so I'm having a hard time thinking anyone "deserving" it. Nowadays, I have major issues with any sort of "deserving" when it comes to the verse. If it had actually been about Shanshu, then I'd say neither of them.

Spike is nowhere near being redeemed, and I don't believe he seeks redemption. I don't believe he feels it weigh on him. He just gets on with where he is at this stage of his life. He doesn't have any kind of focused purpose. He just goes where the party is.

As for Angel, Shanshu was something so very far away from where he was at that stage. Which was exactly the point of that whole game. We don't even know if Shanshu is a good thing. So, to me, for Angel, Shanshu's "just another word for nothing left to lose".

if it had actually been real, I'd say both.

Angel fought for years trying to seek redemption.

Spike got his soul (more or less) voluntarily to be the better man.

Both deserved it, none less than the other.

I say Angel. Even if in the moment I watched the episode last week I was for Spike because you saw what Angel did to Dru just to hurt him. But I thought about it a lot and cam to the conclusion that Angel fought years before Spike for the helpless and that's why he deserved the "drink" in my eyes. And I guess there was something true in the thing Angel said to Spike. He just wanted the Cup cause Angel had interests in it. To take someting Angel wanted just as Angel did with Dru!

I don't think either of them "deserved" it at that point. Sure both of them have done some good work in recent years but as far as redemption goes, I think they still have a long road ahead of them. I doubt either of them could even claim they deserve it with a straight face.

Clem. I believe he was trying to stay off kittens while staying with Spike and I'm sure that took some work!

No but really, I'm going to echo was Brink just said. I don't really thing either one of them 'deserved' it and I was pleased that it was fake because anything else would have gone against the whole mission statement of the show for me...

Well the cup was worthless. But considering they both believed it, I think Angel. Mainly because he's been doing the whole redemption thing for a lot longer and didn't do at, at the start anyway, "to get into a girl's pants". However, if it had actually been legitimate and Spike had gotten it, I wonder how things would've gone . . . I guess Angel would've kept doing what he was doing. He signed away his shanshau and still kept fighting.

I only just watched this ep for the first time a few days ago and while I was watching it I was cheering for Spike. But I'm thinking that's a bit less based on who deserved it and more based on the fact that I prefer Spike overall. It's a tough one when I sit down and think about it though. I kind of think they're on equal footing because Spike actively went to find his soul and went through all the pain and stuff whereas Angel became good because he was cursed. And if Spike was able to overcome his evil vamp side and seek out his soul it says something about Angelus remaining evil. But at the same time, Angel has been fighting for good a lot longer than Spike has. But then again, I'm liking this idea that neither of them deserved it at this point. So after all that rambling, my point is... I don't know 😛

If they were to face the prospect of winning it again, neither of them would want it. Spike only wanted the fake one, to stop Angel getting it. Angel wouldn't want it as then he wouldn't be able to help his friends.
They'd probably give it to harm.
