Who dun did what, you ask me. Sire Gunn, dummy! Who do you think did that and why? Was it Spike or Angel trying to safe their friends life (like Angel did with Lawson from Why We Fight) or maybe some random vamp? Remember, Angel mentioned that he hadn't needed his stake in a long time, so there aren't too many vamps running wild. Also, was it maybe one of Senator Brucker's vampires? Meaning he was already (turning into) a vampire in the last scene of NFA.
 
I think he might have already have been vamping at the end of Not Fade Away, and didn't Angel say the reason he hadn't need stakes lately was because he now had bigger problems to worry about than Vamps?

Close, but the actual quote was:

"Haven't had to use one of these for months. Remember when Vampires were our biggest problem?"

From that I take it he hasn't encountered any in a long time.
 
I love the idea that Gunn is already a vampire at the end of the last episode!
A part of me hopes that it's really him though, but cool idea.
I went with Spike.. no reason or logic at all, just seemed like it might be interesting.
 
I think Angel, he knows him more, and I doubt Spike would... idk why i just don't think he would
 
I voted for one of Senator Brucker's Vampires. I think that would put a nice twist on Illyria's "You're fading." If not one of them, I would put my money on Spike.

Really? I can see why you'd think that from the first part, but from the second it sounds like now there are thing's that are a much bigger problem to Angel than Vampires, so much so that he doesn't bother with vamp hunting anymore
 
Lol, I interpret it to mean that the threat of vampires has been replaced by the threat of Burge-esque demons.
 
I also voted for one Senator Brucker's Vampires. I honestly dont think that Spike nor Angel would do that to Gunn turn him into one of the things he hated most.... Honestly though if it wasnt Senator Bruckers Vamps it may have been Spike but not angel... Angel has too much respect for him than that... He would have just let him go out like a champ though me may not have liked it...

I agree with you. I don't think Spike or Angel would have done it. If it HAD to be one of them, I'd choose Spike, but he struggled so much for his soul that I don't think he'd willingly take it away from Gunn.
i'm against him being a vamp at the end of NFA...not only would this completely ruin the end of the show for me, J. August Richards was talking about his character at a Con in June, about the alley at then end of the show. and what he was saying was something very beautiful and i'd hate to see that walked all over by having Gunn be a vamp when he was saying these things.

plus, i don't think there was enough time for Gunn to be bitten, Sired and risen again to meet the rest of them in the alley.

i'm not saying Angel or Spike are responisble, but i don't think it was S. Brukner's vamps. i don't know who it could have been.
 
I hope it's not Spike or Angel, i think it would be awful if one of them sired him - i don't know why byt it just grosses me out. I hope it was just some random vamp in the heat of battle but i do quite like the theory that Gunn was already turning into a vamp at the end of NFA. for this to be the case then he would have had to have done the whole sucking thing already (forced into it by the senator's henchmen of course) but was still dying so wouldn't have been rebirthed as a vamp yet. then he would have died during the battle only to rise later as vampire Gunn. nice theory. i wonder does Angel know yet?
 
I don't really see how a vampire would bother to sire Gunn if he didn't already know him, or know of him. Especially when you're in the heat of a massive apocalyptic battle.. you'd think they'd just feed and move on... or just kill and move on.
Plus it's just boring if it was just any random vamp. 😉
 
I wonder how J. August Richards felt about his character becoming a vampire. Why did Whedon think that the only way for Gunn to become interesting was to turn him into a vampire? Is he trying to revive the old "friend becomes enemy" storyline of BUFFY's Season 6?

Actually the friend becomes the enemy has been used a lot. It works though.
Buffy season 2 (Angelus) Buffy season 3 (Faith) Buffy season 6 (Willow) Angel season 4 (Cordelia).. prolly some others I missed.
I love Gunn.. don't want him to be a vampire. But he's still in the comic so I guess that's good.

It definitely works. It adds a little extra flavour to the enemy. It makes them harder to kill, because the Scoobies have emotional ties to who the enemies used to be.

Some more examples; Jesse in "Welcome to the Hellmouth", Anya in "Selfless", Spike on various occasions in seasons 6 and 7, the First reappeared as lots of good guys in S7. And let's not forget the "man on the inside" in S8.
 
Lol jeez I avoid the season 8 forum and I still get spoiled! 😉 (I'm waiting for #9 still) I've heard that insider thing mentioned a lot without even entering a discussion thread, hey... looks interesting. Forgot about Anya in Selfless, was also one of the few times I liked her character.

A more interesting question about Gunn, is if he is redeemable? If Angel knows he's a vampire why didn't hey slay him? (Owh there's another question! there has to be some slayers stuck in hell). Was Angel just not able to kill him, or did he let him go. Are they hoping to find a way to ensoul him, or I suppose there could be a deeper plan we know nothing of.
 
I'm not sure if Angel knows that Gunn is a vampire yet. Maybe he just thinks he's dead.
 
I don't think he was a vamp at the end of NFA. Both Spike and Illyria comment on his injuries with Illyria saying he was fading, if he had been vamped those wounds would not have been fatal, just inconvenient.

I don't think Angel turned him, he knew how much Gunn would hate to become a vamp. I picked Spike but I think I'm back tracking on that too.

Totally agree with the Illyria observation.
I picked some random W&H vamp. I honestly don't really have much of an opinion on who turned him. I'm still kinda in shock from the fact that he is a vamp. I can't quite get that image out of my head. *shudders*
