More like spoiler speculation than anything, really. For those who have read Season 8 and saw Buffy go to battle Dark Willow 200 years in the future, I started to think just recently "Wait...who dies 200 years in the future to set Dark Willow off?"

I mean, if Tara's death is the reason why Willow went off the edge the first time I would imagine someone else's death would do it to her this time as well. Someone she's really close with and has that kind of connection with. When I think of the Scoobies though, I'd imagine ALL of them would be dead at least like 40-60 years from the time in the comics. Does Willow become dark after the last one falls or does Willow become dark when that death takes place 200 years from now? And if so, then who could it be?

I didn't know where to put this, so I apologize Moderators if this is the wrong place.

My speculation is that either Tara is reincarnated and meets the same fate again or Oz dies. I'd imagine Oz would have a longer lifespan because of his lycanthropy, Kennedy dies, Oz's family will PROBABLY be killed soon because it's a Whedon story, Oz and Willow being magic-based creatures (as Willow is no longer "quite human") and they get back together.

What say you?

More spoilers incoming...

Do we know when it is that Willow goes dark? If it was mentioned, I don't remember it, but if it was, please ignore what I'm about to type!🙂

I was wondering if Willow is about to go dark again, in the present or very near future. I know magic is gone (for now), but maybe something she does to get it back makes her go dark again. How much will she miss this power and what will she do to get it again?

I don't think that anyone necessarily needs to die to set it off for her, especially since she's tasted all that power already. It makes me really sad to know how Willow ends up. I hope they can avoid that future.

Me too and you bring up an excellent point. I just figured when she said "It's been 200 years, what do you think happened" (if I remember the phrase correctly), then I thought someone died. And if Willow goes dark soon but has maintained it for 200 years, then did the scoobies all die in one go being unable to stop her?

And why bring Buffy to kill her? I mean, was Willow like "You know what? Today seems like a good day to die and retire from all of this bad magick lifestyle. Bring Buffy, chop chop!"

First of all, she might've been dark a long time when we read that s8 arc. She could go dark next season for all we know as an aftermath of
the loss of magic
. Then again, didn't she (or someone) say that this is a "possible" future, not the only future? So it might not happen at all.

Obviously, there could be other reasons for Willow to go dark than the death of a loved one, but the fact that she, at least in Fray's time, possesses magic leads me to believe that, if a death really will be involved this time, it will be tied in with Willow trying to restore her magic. She seems pretty devastated without it. That being the case, my guess would someone that if someone DOES die this time, it would be Willow's magic snake lady girlfriend.

Or maybe Willow, in trying to recover her magic, somehow bonds with the snake lady, making her go dark, but a somehow different type of dark than before, making her immortal, but forcing her to live in the demon dimension. Then over the years, she manages to restore or recreate the original vampire strain, allowing them to turn their victims, knowing that in so doing, she will reactivate the Slayer line.

At the same time, she recreates the Slayer's Scythe, but only as a very effective weapon, with no mystical power attached to it (Remember, Fray apparently doesn't experience the same sort of thrill of possession from touching her Scythe that both Buffy and Faith felt) and sends it with Urkonn(?) to be Fray's mentor and partner.

Why would Willow, dark or otherwise, want to restart the old human vs demons war once more? Maybe she has succumbed to what seems to be a common malady among human immortals. She grows tired of her unchanging life, and somehow knows that only a Slayer will be able to end it for her (or maybe she remembers what Buffy said about killing her in the future and realizes that the only way for that to happen would be for some crisis to bring her two centuries into the future)

What was the question again. Oh, yeah. Who dies to make Willow go dark again?

Beats me...
