Who Do You Really Hate??

Ok so alot of people have put up anti...who-ever threads but here's the place to really vent about the character(s) from buffy/Angel that you really don't like! Is it Dawn, Conner or maybe one of the more well liked characters like Willow or Fred...here's the place to just Let it all out...

Parker isn't supposed to be liked, though. Yeah, I'm sure I'd absolutely hate him if he were real but he's a bit character from a couple of episodes. He's a jerk. Yeah? That's how he was written to be, and the payoff is you get to see Cave Buffy bonk him on the head and Riley punch him in his face. I agree with Connor though. He's also supposed to be a pain, but he's a much more prominent pain and all of his scenes were fairly cut and paste. There are definitely moments when Dawn sucks but I don't outright hate her.

I think this thread would make more sense based on this idea of characters were supposed to like but dont. Otherwise obviously most villans fall into this category.

Dawn, Kennedy, and Riley all have their redeeming qualities... in fact i could probably very effectively argue against haters of these and point out just how integral to the story they are. But...Ultimately they are failures on behalf of the Buffyverse for well documented reasons.

My hate
Im going to be quite honest here and say i DO NOT like Angel the character. I love the Angel show and so this sortof falls into a paradox but ill try to explain myself. Angel as a character does a lot of things that cannot be forgiven. First of all, i dont think he is worthy of Buffys love. As a human angel was a jerk, a womanising pig drunkard. He had his soul FORCED upon him (see Spike for how a soul can be obtained). Angel as a man is an unworthy (see flashbacks) man, then as a vampire he was one of the worst, then as an ensouled vampire he did jack all for 100 years while he moped around about his sins.

Why
He's weak. A weak man who doesn't care about anyone but himself. A strong accusation. Lets see how he treats Buffy in 'Ill remember you' or whatever it called... Angel lives a perfect day with buffy and they both get everything they want (including the fulfilment of the shanshu but thats another topic)... at the end of all this, Angel decides he needs to become a vampire and chooses to erase everything from Buffys mind, rewinding the day while he gets to keep everything. This is no different than Willow mind raping tara in S6. Angel gets to keep every memory of that beautiful day while he took that away from B.

More...
Angel is a stalker. He stalked Buffy before she even became a slayer. Then stalked her without her knowledge in Pangs S4. Everything he does indicates just the kind of man he is.

Angels dissrespect of Buffy in regards to Faith: Faith had just screwed Riley, essentially raping him. Buffy finds out that RIGHT after this, faith is chillin at Angels apartment and the amazing thing is Angel has NO understanding whatsoever about where Buffy is coming from. This is yet another understanding into Angels self absorbed character. He is a leader, but not to be admired.

Angel as a lover
Theres a strong argument behind Buffy's future lover and again i think this is a problem. the whole Spike v Angel debate. Well, ill stay out of the Spike argument but i will say straight out that Angel and Buffy do not belong together. It was a relationship that you have in HS, a childish (watch S3 and tell me thats anything but HS drama) relationship that defines your future but you move on. I think the Bangel problem lies within the select number of fans who cant let go of that dream and the writers who play lip service to it with episodes involing 'cookie dough'

Anyway, im very tired and i should really detail my opinion of Angel a little further.

Great post, Silium. I agree with quite a few of your points on Angel.

I'm going to have to go with Conner. I really just can't stand the little nit. I have tried to accept him, and his modivations for this actions, and this pain and yada yada blah but honestly, he grates on my nerves. His stupid haircut, his whiny "poor me" attitude, his creepy Oedipus complex...this character was just poorly written, poorly acted, poorly executed, and poorly directed. Ugh. The only thing I find interesting about his character is his interactions with Angel.

Riley. I despise Riley and all things to do with iniative. I never liked him even when he first came into it, at first I thought Buffy just needed a rebound guy after what happened with Parker, but when I realised they were actually staying together, I wasn't happy. I hate the fact he seems to think Buffy's incapable, sometimes, and he thinks he needs to be stronger than her. He's just an ass. And he left because she wouldn't tell him things, maybe she wasn't ready to. Seriously, I hate him.

I also don't like Kennedy that much. I dunno, I just feel Willow replaced Tara too quickly. I mean she was grieving so much, she even almost destroyed the world...And then just a few weeks later she's dating someone about five years younger than her..? Well, maybe there wasn't that much age difference, but I distintantly remember a scene (Can't remember which episode it was in) when they're all in Willie's Place, with Clem, and they mention something about being a bunch of 15-year-old girls. And Willow was like 21 at this point..? But I also dislike her character because she can be so spoilt, and she even admits to that. She's okay at times, I guess.

Most other Buffy characters I like, or don't mind, at least, I can't think of any others who I hate.

I'm not good at hating or despising. To me, the regular and recurring characters are all too many-faceted to right out despise or hate. And the non-regulars aren't sufficiently important to bother hating.

Connor, because he took up screen time with his bitching and annoying face and contributed nothing, IMO to the show but a pain in the ass and a break to head to the bathroom for the viewers.

I wouldn't really use the word 'hate' (I'm not sure you can really passionately hate a fictional character, as I tend to believe I need some sort of interaction with people at some point to really hate them), more 'dislike', but Connor is definitely very high on my list. He was just sooo whiney, illogical, and don't let me st art on the way he hit otn Cordelia!
Other than that, I never really liked Tara. No reason, I just didn't.

I wouldn't say I really hated any particular main character, there as elements of each of the main characters I didn't really care for at some point or another, some more than others. But at the same time those things I don't like also make me like them more as a multi-dimensional character.

So perhaps the character I like the least...Darla. I never really understood her, but also I disliked how her character was all over the shop and the inconsistencies really bugged me.

The thing that got me about Darla started from the very beginning. She played the teenage card and while lackey to the Marster, seemed nothing spectacular. I get that it was the very, very beginning, but my first impression of her always made me incredulous that she's the one that sired one of the greatest monsters of all time.

I don't know....maybe Darla herself as a character is a method actor. But the fact that we come to realise how worldy she really is later on, and her first moments on the show just don't mesh for me.

I don't really hate any of the characters but if there's someone I really don't like, it's Warren.

I mean yeah, he was the bad guy. You're supposed to hate him. But of all the bad guys in Buffy he was the worst to me. And he was human after all! He had a soul which seems to mean so much in the Buffyverse. And I don't understand why Buffy thought he didn't deserve to die. Because he did! No, it shouldn't have been Willow because it could've destroyed her but he really deserved to die. I don't really get Buffy there. And then people like Faith apparently do deserve to die. Why? She has slayer-powers but after all she's still human. That just doesn't make sense to me. Sorry, Buffy but you kind of lost me there.

Then Kate. At the end I felt sorry for her and everything but especially in the 1st season I did not like her. Not everything is Angels fault!

And Connor! Yeah, that's it.

Even if they generalized and said a bunch of 15 year old girls, it doesn't mean all of them were exactly 15. There's another scene where the potentials are discussing who might be called next and one of them suggests she is too young to be called as the next slayer and Kennedy then suggests she is probably getting too old to be called as the next slayer because the younger the better. This suggests Kennedy is older than the rest of the girls (and there is only a two year age difference between she and Aly).

Oh yeah, I completely second that. I don't know why I don't like her but I think it has to do with at least some of the following:
- She's annoying in her ignorance. That is to say, I think she's supposed to be an intelligent person, but I she has too many stupid actions, silly remarks etc to make that believable.
- She's too overprotective. Which I can understand with your daughter being a slayer, but sometimes she's just too all over the place.
- She's inconsistent. Sometimes she just believes everything Buffy tells her, but later she's just strict, grounding her, whatever, without any apparent reason

I can't think of any specific examples, but maybe IM can 😉 Sometimes I can understand why she is the way she is, but most of the time she's just 'too', too strict, too silly, too caring, too 'best friend instead of mum', whatever. I think her character had so much potential, but somehow she's just some sort of charicature of a mum. I can't really explain it, though. She just makes me want to hit things. With a mum like her, I would so run away.
I did like her interactions with Spike and Giles, but with Buffy (and later also Dawn) she just misses 'it' (whatever 'it' may be) time after time.
