Spike, of course, he is her equal, he loves her, has proven over and over that he will always be there for her (and for those she loves - Dawn), they know the better and the worse of each other, they know each other, they are in love with each other right now - and, let's be honest, if they still are together after all those years... they do belong together.

She'll grow old, and he will be at her side till the end! 😀

There's no heart in the "smiles". Should have hearts with smiles.

I think they will switch it around a few more times, but I gotta go with my gut on it -- Spike.

It shouldn't work, but when this is all over and if (I said if) Joss decides to throw the dog a bone, it will be Spike that she ends up with.

Both William's middle name and Liam's last name were made up by me. I just wanted to see if anyone noticed. Congratulations, you won the prize!
I don't think that it's going to be Spike or Angel because, one, it doesn't work, two, it's just boring. Honestly, I don't think that Buffy's the kind of person who ends up with somebody. It's just not her life, not her story.

Of course, we all know that this is never going to happen, because, even if Joss does allow Buffy to retire someday, it will always be with the possibility that, just like with Season 8, she will return eventually, in some form. So, no happily ever after for our favorite Slayer.

Having said that, I strongly feel that, if such a time actually does come, Buffy will settle down in her white picket fence surrounded cottage with someone totally human, someone capable of giving her children and a relatively happy life (too happy, and she would become bored quickly) someone with whom she can grow old and watch their children grow. That man MIGHT be named William Clayton Pratt or Liam Hanrahan, assuming that one vampire or the other manages to become human, some day (she's never actually met either, only their vampire counterparts) but it will far more likely be some totally new character with no ties whatsoever to the world of demons, vampires, and apocalypses.

Lol I didn't know that was Angel's full birth name.
As much as I want it to be Faith, I'm inclined to agree with EVIL UU, Buffy won't end up with anyone.

I would laugh my ass off if they went a Sookie route with it. That would genuinely be funny.

What's the Sookie route?

That's for Sarah Michelle Gellar, not Buffy...

No one. I think Joss will kill her off before he ever decides to make a definite choice in this argument that we've been having for 15 years. It's entirely too much fun for him.

Yeah, and I should have read the question properly - it's Who do you think Buffy will end up with eventually? and not Who do you want Buffy end up with eventually?

Propably BtVS comics will end as the show ended: Buffy alone, although I think that maybe, Joss could have changed over the years - and then, IMO, the choice could be Spike. Mortals do change, don't they?

@Taake "What's the Sookie route?"
At the closing seconds they showed the back of someone's head whom she happily ever aftered with... there was no introducing him, you knew nothing about him prior to those last seconds.. didnt even see a face! just the back of his head.

That would be an awesome way to end Buffy as well, because at the end of the day it didn't matter who she was with, just that she was finally happy, etc.

The shippers HATED it though. As they would with Buffy I imagine. But it's still a great ending.

So Joss Whedon would end his show the same way Alan Ball ended his? How creative it is. Not!
Personally, I kinda don't understand the appeal of a settle down/happily ever after ending. Do people seriously want the apex predator of the occult world to become a soccer mom in some boring suburbia? I don't want to go full gender studies here but it's not like we want Batman to settle down, do we? And of course, Buffy's romantic relationships are much more of a focus than those of the world's greatest detective ( I...think, please correct me if I'm spewing bullshit, I'm not much into Batman ) but still, she's just as much of a warrior, just as much of a superhero.

If Buffy ends how Fray describes it (and thats only if) then we know that Buffy isn't going to settle down- she's going to go out in some blaze-of-glory apocalypse with those she cares about around her/falling with her. Who gets to be blazing along with her is the question.
And that's the way it should be. I like the idea of maybe a Scooby surviving or something, but Buffy shouldn't fade away- that's never been how a slayer does things.

Me neither. And I don't believe Buffy would like that life - even if she herself thinks she would - to give up the fight and be a "normal person". She will be the Slayer till her last day.

We already had a last episode where it seemed that Buffy was finally free of her burden - and then, we had Twilight etc.

So, yeak, if BtVS ends for good, Buffy will die fighting, I don't think Joss would follow the Sookie path, no. And he may have changed and be more open to happy endings, but not for Buffy; maybe for Xander and Dawn, or Willow and someone new, for instance.

And the mortal/immortal dilemma would be solved: Buffy dies young, happy, doing what she was made to do, saving the world one more time... and having Spike by her side, of course.

I think Batman is more a person who help the helpless. He is like Angel. I'm not into Batman, either...

I don't think we'll ever see her settle down with one person. She may give it another go with Spike or Angel but nothing long term can really work with them.

At the end of the day I don't know if she'll ever really want to settle down...it doesn't seem to fit in with her lifestyle, wants or needs.

I read this once, but can find no confirmation whatsoever now, so, take it or leave it...

The final battle at the end of Season 8 was supposed to be the battle described in the "Fray" series, but something changed the outcome (maybe Spike arriving with his bug ship, but that's just a guess) thus creating an anomaly that would ultimately result in Willow going dark and still being alive in Fray's time.

Whether that is right or not, the way that the battle was described in "Fray" it seems to me like the story line has gone past the time when it was supposed to happen. Course, that mostly depends on your definition of "the early part of the Twenty First Century" really is. I would define it as sometime within the first 10 years, so we're past the time.

I doubt it, but only for the simple reason that Buffy was shown a part of the very future that came to pass (a specific panel of herself lying on the ground crying and hugging herself) mere months before hand.
She and Willow were given a vision by by some demon that lived outside of the normal timestream. It was an episode set a little after 'No Future For You' (I forget the exact issue) but what came to pass- 'the closest betrayal, the most intimate' as the demon put- it came to pass despite the presence of outside forces such as Spike and the bug ship, or Giles and Faith returning to the fold (in spite of Twilight going out of his way to capture those two specific characters...and Andrew).

So either the 'battle of Starbucks' changed because of something Dark Willow did in S8 'Time Of My Life' (unlikely because it seemed that the only thing DW wanted was for Buffy to kill her) or it isn't destined to happen yet... Or possibly the Fray reality is just one possible future that will not come to pass for Buffy and co. now.

I voted "other" because the answer is "no one".

A husband and wife relationship does not suit her at all. In "Helpless 3x12", we see that Buffy cannot adapt to having no powers and as Spike said, she needs a little monster in her man. Spike and Buffy may be the on-again, off-again couple but that does not define "Mr. Right". She takes too long to realize that Xander is not carrying the torch for her anymore and in terms of an attraction, she has nothing on Dawn who actually respects him. She and Riley sabotaged their relationship and it doesn't matter who is more to blame - it was always going to happen. There can't be a Mr. Right unless she wants to become Mrs. Right.

Its an "other" for me too because I don't think she will settle down. Could maybe see them doing a short term story where either she gets married, or quits Slaying and seems to have a settled relationship. But I don't see it lasting and she would soon get dragged back into her own life. Buffy as a show advanced a lot beyond relationships and stuff, so I don't think they should focus too heavy on that in the future.
