Aaaah, not Giles!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although he hasn't really been all that essential in s9. I am still really unhappy with the way things were "resolved" between he & Buffy. IOW, a hug & that's it. No discussion. that's not resolution IMO.
 
I wouldn't mind seeing either Dawn or Kennedy go but if that happened I don't know, I guess I just have a hard time seeing either Buffy or Willow recover from such a blow.

So my vote went for Riley. He's close but distant y'know. His death would have an impact but it wouldn't be massive.

I don't want it to be Dawn, but I have a bad feeling that it might be. Why? Because Xander is never allowed to be happy. If she dies just to make Xander suffer again, I really am going to start listening to those who question Joss's proclaimed feminism. (For now, I prefer to see him as a feminist.)

Amen. As sad as it would be, I would prefer it to be Xander this time rather then yet another of his girlfriends dying.
My candidate #1 is Dawn. Everything points at her: she's Xander's girlfriend; she has started talking about a happy life together with him; Buffy mentions "the Key" when she talks about the Seed of Wonder; and, of course, the cover of #38 is pretty revealing.

My candidate #2 is Giles - because of ""Gates, the last great watcher" who "died at the battle of Starbucks". Sunnydale is "a one-Starbucks town"; the action of #37-39 takes place there; Giles doesn't do much in the last issues - he needs a big moment.
 
Actually, it was confirmed that Buffy, Willow, Giles, Faith, Angel and Spike are going to appear in S9. (S9 will feature Willow's story with Snake Lady and some Giles/Faith storylines -so those three are out. And Scott confirmed that Buffy, Spike and Angel will appear in S9)

So it's either Xander or Dawn and I'm pretty much guessing that it's gonna be Xander. Because there are so many hints to Dawn dying and Joss likes his twists.

When Xander dies this season, I'm gonna be really really upset. 🙁 (Yeah, I used "when" instead of "if")

Glad to hear about Giles and Faith are gonna survive. But so sad about Xander. :(

It's a 75% certainty, to me anyhow, that whoever dies will either be resurrected in Season 9 or will come back in some other form. And I believe that it's a 100% certainty that, if Angel were the one to die, he would be back in Season 9, plus he would come back in a state of "All is forgiven. We all love you. Welcome back into the bosom of your friends and loved ones." He might even come back all Shanshued just so he and Buffy can go all doey eyed over each other.

So, think whatever you might want to, believe whatever you might. My money is on funeral services for the tall vampire with the Neanderthal forehead. And, it's just possible that he will take Dawn with him when he goes. Why Angel and Dawn, you might ask? Well, of all of the characters in Buffy's circle of friends, they are the only surviving ones who have never been tortured or made major sacrifices in the quelling of an apocalypse. Giles was tortured by Angelus in Season 2. Faith was stabbed and put into a coma in Season 3. Riley was captured and more or less tortured/humiliated in Season 4. Spike holds the record, having been tortured in both Seasons 5 and 7, plus undergoing the trials and torture in regaining his soul in Season 6. I consider the loss of Tara, coupled with a sense of loss so severe that it drove Willow insane as torture. That is Giles, Faith, Riley, Spike, and Willow. And, of course, Buffy dying in Season 5. That only leaves Dawn and Angel, and, truth be told, Dawn is too minor a character for her death alone to be that big of a loss, BUT, as the Key, she may be instrumental in re closing the dimensional rifts that Buffy and Angel's version of "Smashed" caused. Angel's redemption is hanging in the balance here, so I predict a double header sacrifice here, with Angel covering Dawn's back while she saves the universe.

And that leaves Buffy on this side, all bereaved and broken hearted, and Spike giving comfort, support, and a shoulder for her to lean on between seasons.

Where was it confirmed? Not that I doubt you, but I'd be curious to read/hear what was said.

It better not be Xander... If they do kill him, I won't go as far as some peoples and say I quit the comics, but it better be a really worthy death... Which can only be him dying to save Buff! 😀 Screw Dawn, Bander all the way!!

I'd really miss his humour though. Also, I always thought if someone was gonna die in the core four it'd be Buffy(at the end obviously) 🙁

Angel and Spike's appearance inS9 has been confirmed in one of the Buffyfest interviews. Willow's story isn't finished yet and Scott mentioned once -I don't remember where- that Willow will get a lot of focus in S9. In the latest ********* interview with Scott, he mentioned more Giles/Faith moments in S9.
 
If Dawn dies, they'd better come up with a REALLY GOOD explanation for all Xander's loved ones to die so early. And I do mean really.

What about Graduation Day when Angel almost died? Or him staying in hell for a century? If anything, he has an enormous lead as far as the amount of time being tortured goes.

Okay. Obviously, Buffy, Angel and Spike are the only characters that are safe for sure, or at least won't die permanently. And if Xander, Willow or Dawn dies, I refuse to continue reading. Killing one of those three would pretty much violate some of the important themes of the show, such as that Buffy ISN'T able to be who she is without the ones she loves, ESPECIALLY Dawn. Love her or hate her, the littlest Summers is an important part of Buffy (both the show/comic and the character).

As for the other characters, I think Kennedy dying wouldn't really do much for the plot considering Willow's already been there with Tara. Joss loves Andrew too much to let him go. And Faith dying wouldn't really work out thematically, due to her past on the show. So... Giles? And possibly Satsu or Riley? All of whom would have an impact on Buffy if they died.

Wait, are we even sure that someone is going to die? Everyone seems terribly convinced of the fact.
 
It seems the majority is going with Dawn. From the cover I saw, I wouldn't be shocked... However I've also seen a cover that makes me think Giles might bite the dust.

Sorry but I disagree. Dawn is a major character and her death will be a huge impact on everyone's lives...especially for the core four. This is why I think its Dawn.
 
I'm bumping this up, because I'm thoroughly confused about who will die. The Georges Jeanty #40 cover (http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii339/wenxina/Buffy related stuff/BuffySeason8_40Alt.jpg) shows Buffy, Angel, Giles, Faith, Willow, and Xander. And Georges has clearly stated in a Q&A that Dawn is supposed to be there. All the major characters are there, except Spike. But hasn't Scott Allie/Dark Horse said that there will be a Spike title in season 9? Or am I getting confused with IDW's current Spike series? Jeanty states that Spike will be beat up & bloody by the end, but that doesn't sound the same as dead to me.

So, the following characters remain: Riley, Kennedy, Andrew. Or it could just be the death of magic, or the death of our world as we know it.

So, has the #40 cover changed any of your opinions on the matter?

ETA: Is that Faith on the cover, or is it Kennedy? Sometimes I can't tell them apart in the comics.
