Ok lets have a serious discussion about who will survive and why. Please note that these are not intended to be spoilers, I do not read the spoilers in fact. This is purely conjecture.

That being said, here are a few thoughts that I have been playing with.

1) Anya will die because Emma is not coming back for another season, spin-off or no. I believe this to be true because they are building up the relationship between Anya and Xander again, perfect timing for a Whedon-style massacre on that one, leaving Xander heartbroken that he never got to truly make amends with Anya. This is one that I am feeling pretty confident about so I wanted to get it out of the way first.

2) Now onto Buffy and Spike. I think if Buffy dies, Spike will live or vice versa. I can see Buffy sacrificing herself for Spike at the end, finally "telling him" (as predicted by that psychic girl who's name escapes me because it's late and I have been drinking). I can also see Spike laying down his life for Buffy OR Dawn, he obviously feels strongly enough about them.

I cannot, however, forsee Spike and Buffy riding off into the sunset together (so to speak) at the end of the show. It's just too Un-Whedonesque. And if they did where would Dawn factor into this? She would have to go with them too (unless dead), so now we have 3 main characters surviving the finale, one of whom is definetly not returning, spin off or no. I just can't see that happening, one or more of them must go.

The other thought I have about this is they pull a Romeo and Juliet parody and both Buffy AND Spike die. It would be quite... artistic.

3) Willow will most likely survive. She has shown that she can turn on the evil-magic-juice to save her own ass (the giant spiders in the frat house in that episode a while back) in a split second when needed.

4) Xander and Giles I am really up in the air about. They are both completely human and have been around the show without any major injury or fatalities for so long that it's hard to believe that they will both make it through the forthcoming orgy of violence. I believe that one of them will die, and if I had to pick one I'd say Xander simply because he would bring less to a spin-off (aside from his window fixing skills obviously).

5) Dawn I can see dying, that would be a decent reason for Buffy to pack up and leave town, having no family left (what happened to her dad?). This would be especially believable if Spike also died, cementing my theory above.

6) Andrew will die, he served his purpose in Storyteller. I can't really see his character developing into something else beyond this, save for perhaps a new Xander on a spin-off, but that would just annoy the piss out of me.

7) Wood I think will hash it out with Spike in this next episode, and perhaps Spike or The First will take him out. If he does survive, as with Xander and Giles above, Wood is completely human and there is an orgy of violence on the way, 'nuff said.

8) The minor SITs will probably all die, that's pretty much a given.

9) Kennedy will not die because I don't think that they will repeat the whole Willow gets a girlfriend then she dies thing.

Thoughts? Who am I missing here? It's like 5:30 in the morning and I've had a long night, so please excuse me if this post is completely unintelligable and rambles on... 😀

As Emma repeatedly said she didn't want Anya to die, I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt, and say she will just leave, with or without Xander.

Giles is getting his own spin-off, so he'll most likely survive. I'm not sure that Xander will die, I believe he will survive, if all the other original Scoobies survive, he most likely will too.

As for the mayor injuries, Xander is going to get his eye poked out by Caleb in one of the upcoming episodes

5) Dawn I can see dying, that would be a decent reason for Buffy to pack up and leave town, having no family left (what happened to her dad?). This would be especially believable if Spike also died, cementing my theory above.

As much as I dislike Dawn and hope she will die, I think her potential for interesting storylines is reason enough to take her into a spin-off.

I agree with you on the rest!

My predictions are that Anya, Giles, Andrew, Faith and Buffy & Spike will die. My reasoning:

Anya -- Sure, Emma wants her character to live. But, that means that we'll all be all-so-surprised if she doesn't. Plus I think it would be fitting if there was closure to the whole Anya/Xander thing.

Giles --
He's going to get kind of mean in the next few eps, so I think he'll bite the big one to make up for it and show Buffy how much he cares about her.
Plus, the Bringers are out for him, too.

Andrew -- I think "Storyteller" was foreshadowing to his death somehow.

Faith -- Since her spin-off was canned, I think her character will be too. As much as I love her, I think she's gonna die.

Spike -- Now, he's my favourite character, and I DON'T want him too, but I think he'll bite the dust (literally). It'll be some sort of sacrifice or something. To show how much he loves Buffy. Blech, Spike, what are you thinking?

These are who i think will survive:
Buffy, Anya (I hope) Xander, Willow and Giles, maybe Andrew.
I think that these will die (anyone i dont post is who i dont know what will happen to them):
Spike, Dawn, Faith, All the Sits, except, maybe Kennedy (unfortunatley!)

i think Xander going to die...since the writer written one eye out of him that will probably mean they dun wish to keep this character?
For a spinoff to continue. i guess Faith, Dawn and some SITs will die.

For giles, he had a Spinoff right, Ripper so my guess he won't die...

The Bunnies I don't think Buffy and Spike will have a big romance in the last episode. Angel will be back so I think the focus will be on him and Buffy. I'm pretty sure Buffy will die. Spike will live (and hopefully join the cast of Angel). Anya and Xander will go off into the sun set. Willow and Kennedy will die.

Double Post (next time use the edit button!):

Also Dawn will live. Faith will die.

Judging by a lot of the reactions I've seen I'm guessing that many fans might not survive the end of this season. Other than that I'd just as soon wait and see.

Something to note though, is that contrary to popular belief Faith doesn't HAVE to die. Joss has done the Slayer bit for seven years and he might be wanting to try something new (the possibility of a Willow series is being thrown around). If the series doesn't revolve around the Slayer it is unlikely to have one in it as a bit character, Slayers seem to be A-list material not sidekicks (if Kennedy were to brought over into a Willow series as the Slayer than she might overshadow the star, Willow, so it would be more likely to see her remain a Potential). This also would leave the door open for Eliza Dushku to make guest appearences, and Joss seems to think very highly of her. So Faith might die, she might not... it's not a given (and I REALLY hope she doesn't, if not for her Season 4 of Buffy would have been a near total loss. Except for the episodes where she appeared the season had few redeeming qualities).

Remember SMG has said she wouldn't mind doing guest appearences either.

I guess the one person I missed in there WAS Faith and after that last episode of Angel man it's hard to tell what's going to happen. We know that Eliza is coming to Buffy for the end but we don't know wether it's Faith or Faith being impersonated by the First or Faithgelus...

If I had to put money on it she's gonna be saved at the last minute by Wes, but will be recovering until it's time to go to Buffy.

Live or Die? How about a third possibility.

The Seal of Dantazar seems to lead to a Hell dimension. Myself and others have suggested the possibility Buffy and the Scoobies may have to go to Hell to defeat the First. What if that happens.

The First Evil could be defeated, yet the crew would be left in a kind of limbo.

The Buffy series would be complete and we would be crying for a spinoff to see them claw their way out of there.

That is a very interesting theory indeed.

Also to add to my Dawn theory Joyce's ghost (assuming it WAS Joyce's ghost) told her that Buffy would not choose her when the time came. This could mean that Buffy will choose to save the world instead of Dawn?

The Bunnies and nerd4hire, I think that both of your theories are very interesting.

The Bunnies, it would be so sad for Buffy to know that she has to save the world and not Dawn, and have to carry out that descision, but because she would know that she let her sister die, she might go into a state of catatonia again like she did in 'The Weight of the World'.

In my opinion, this is a list of who I think will live and die...

Live: Buffy, Giles, Willow, Kennedy, Faith

Die: Xander, Spike, Dawn, SITs, Anya, Andrew

If I have missed anyone out it is because I don't really have an idea what will happen to them.

Spike, Faith, Andrew and maybe Anya will come to a awful end!!! Oh and all the SIT!!!

Buffy, Willow, Xander, Kennedy, Giles and Dawn I hope will survive!!!

First of all, I doubt that Buffy will die because a) She's already died twice so it wouldn't be a big enough deal (so to speak) to end the series, b) Joss would have to top her awesome, dramatic death in "The Gift" which I think would be really hard to do because it seemed like he gave it his all on that one, and c) I think Joss would jump at the chance to have Sarah guest-star in a spin-off since she's already promised she would.

I can definitely see Spike and/or Faith sacrificing themselves for Buffy (or maybe even another character).

Angel will most likely stay alive (so to speak!) because his show is not definitely over yet.

I seriously doubt that Willow would die because everyone loves her (fans, characters, crew), and it looks like there's a lot of potential for a spin-off with her. Also, she's wicked powerful so they'd have a hard time killing her!

Xander I'd guess will also live, mostly for spin-off potential. Same goes for Giles.

I can see Anya dying mostly because Emma is never coming back.

I'm really not sure about Wood, Kennedy, or Dawn. I think they could go either way.

I agree with whoever said "Storyteller" forshadows Andrew's death.

So, in recap:

DIE: Andrew, Spike, Faith, Anya
LIVE: Buffy, Angel, Willow, Xander, Giles (Since this turns out to be the original line-up, it might be dumb to just be back at the beginning. Knowing Joss, I bet he'll kill at least one of these core characters for shock factor.)
UNSURE: Dawn, Wood, Kennedy

That is interesting that you picked the original lineup to live, but I remember reading an article where the Whedonic One was talking about how everything was coming full circle back to the beginning so you may not be far off.

This is my list who is going to live and died:

Live: Buffy, Dawn, Willow, Xander, Giles, Spike, and Andrew

Died: Anya and some of the SIT's

I really don't know about Faith.
