Who Does Xander Hate More?

another person and i were debating which one xander hated more, spike or angel. we didnt actually come to a conclusion, so if anyone has an interest, i figured it might be an interesting topic to put up for discussion. and also, i hope this does not turn into something about whether you like spike/buffy or angel/buffy better, because it is about what you believe xander's opinion to be.

now, my opinion is that he hates angel more. true, xander originally did not like angel because he liked buffy, and xander was jealous, but that can still make powerful hatred. also, with spike, he has had friendly conversations, much fewer of which he has had with angel, if any. my opinion changes, however, at entropy and seeing red in s6. after he has sex with anya and rapes buffy, i think xander hates him so much more than angel, who hasnt even been around for him to hate. i hope im making some sense right now 😛.

i think he hates Angel more, and i'll tell ya why.

Spike never tried to be something he wasn't, he was always up front and honest about being a vampire, being evil, killing people. he never tried to lie about that stuff.

Angel was always saying that he and Angelus were two different people, as did everyone else. when Angel reverted to Angelus, Xander saw him for what he really was, saw the monster that Angel was trying to hide and he didn't like being lied to.

Xander respects people for being honest with him, even if he doesn't always returned the favour. he didn't tell Buffy that Willow was trying to re-ensoul Angel again, instead he was happy for Buffy to go ahead with her plan and kill him.

Xander helped the others rescue Spike a couple times, allowed Spike to live with him, twice, and generally accepted Spike as part of their lives, something that he never did with Angel.

but then again, this whole rant might be utter nonsense, because i'm completely biased in this kinda discussion! lol

Ohh you'll tell us why, thats very decent. I was expecting a one word reply from you!!!
I would go with spike, because of the rape and canoodling with anya. But also because his hatred for spike was more mature. Xanders disdain for angel came from a place of childish jealously, well mostly whereas his hatred for spike was more pure. This wasnt always the case but I'd say towards the end of buffy/angel it would have definetly been spike.
 
I'd go with neither. Sure Xander disliked Angel but that's mostly because Angel liked Buffy and he also liked Buffy as well and then Angel went evil, but that was years ago and Xander is much older and knows better now.

Also in terms of Spike I think he still has some resentment toward Spike but I don't think he hates Spike anymore, cause again I think he knows better and after all Spike did sacrifice himself in Chosen so I think whateva hatred Xander may have had before that moment went away during that moment.
 
I think Spike. Especially after what happened in season 6. But Spike did fight at their side and helped take care of Dawn when Buffy was gone. I just think he hates Spike more than Angel, but it isn't by a long shot.
 
I think he hates Spike more. I mean, if Spike hadn't done the do with Anya or hadn't attempted to rape Buffy, then Xander would of been okay with him. However, since Spike did all those things, I think he really resented Buffy having him around.

I do think that Xander doesn't really like Angel, but not as much as he dislikes Spike. Angel really never did anything that really got to Xander except killing Jenny and getting Buffy. And even when Buffy and Angel split up I still felt he resented Angel, but he's very protective of Buffy. And when he found out that Spike tried to rape Buffy, he got very, very pissed off.
 
I think he hated Angel more. He was jealous of him for being with Buffy and he displayed that so many times. With Spike, Xander disliked him because he was a vampire, not because of any personal reason. Xander never really had any hatred for Spike.

But Angel and Angelus WERE two different people. Angel is the vampire with his HUMAN soul living in the body with the demon. When he's "Angelus" the human soul isn't there controlling the body, the demon has full control.
 
xander didnt always see angel and angelus as two different people. for instance, in becoming, he thinks its stupid for them to even consider re-ensouling angel. he is seeing angel as the same terrible soulless vampire that angelus is, and recalls how he killed jenny, and that something like that could happen again.

and childish jealousies dont always go away. xander, though he matured a lot in later seasons, has those lovable qualities, like his jokes and some interests, which make him a bit childish. he also seems to have made some immature decisions, but there are differing opinions on those too. i bet he would hang on to his hatred even later on; it wouldnt just dissapate. up until the rape and anya thing, nothing could compare to his loathing for angel, and even after that, i doubt he started to like angel any better, he just started hating spike a whole lot more.
 
I don't think Xander even hated Spike until the incedent with Anya, also. He would hate anyone who was the cause of that pain.
He hated Angel yes for childish reasons, and then Angelus's deeds became a better excuse.
I don't think he's ever really liked either of them. They're Vampires, simple as that. He's never had a reason to 'like' them, soul or no soul.
 
Xander actually hates spike more.

He actually asked was there a word stronger then hate when talking about spike.
 
Hate is a strong word. I'd say Xander dislikes Angel more because he bugs Angel. There's one episode (Season 3, "Enemies") where Angel (while pretending to be Angelus) walks past Xander on the street and without stopping punches him down. He then says "that guy just bugs me" to Faith as they keep walking.

Granted he was pretending to be Angelus and punching Xander was an easy way to get rid of him, but I got the feeling that Xander really did bug Angel and he was happy to punch the guy. I don't think Spike ever cared about Xander one way or the other so there's less reason for the two to be "enemies" (even in the informal sense) once Xander has gotten over the Spike-Buffy and Spike-Anya incidents. Plus Spike didn't have a soul before.
