I rewatched the finale yesterday and it got me wondering. First off there’s a good I spotted. When Buffy was doing her whole Spider-Man thing at the end, jumping from building to building she had the scythe, which can be seen when she jumps onto the bus. When she gets off it’s gone.

Anyway let’s say after it ends Buffy goes "Oh I left it on the bus roof" who do you think would have kept it? Buffy seems the rightful owner, but isn't the purpose of giving all the slayers power to let Buffy rest? So think she passed it onto a potential and if so which? Or even Faith, but we dunno if she went back to prison or not.

Only other thought is Giles if they do do the whole "New Watcher's Academy" thing done in so many fanfics. Just wondering who do you think owns the scythe now?

Good question...
My guess is that it was either passed on to a potential (Kennedy?) or perhaps Faith, I don't think Buffy kept it herself. Maybe Willow kept it, I see her as a potential watcher/girl in charge of the new slayers.

What's interesting is how the Scythe got from Buffy to Urkonn in New York hundred years later. Urkonn mentions to Fray that after "the battle" all demons were gone and no girls were called. So if we say that for example Willow or Faith had the Scythe, it must have been passed on to generations of watcher-type persons. So maybe a "New Watcher's Academy" isn't such a bad guess after all. Only they became a bunch of loonies as Urkonn mentions.

I reckon after Buffy had finished smiling she hugged the gang and then they all went back to the bus where she picked up the Scythe and handed it to Giles for safe keeping as to her he is the person she would give that to to protect and preserve.

On the theory of how it ended up in such and suches hands (sorry haven't read about Fray), Giles passed away and it was passed on to one of his apprentices which then ended up in Fray's or whoevers hands.

Another interesting thing about that; Urkonn is a warrior of the demon realm. Urkonn gives the scythe to Fray. To me this suggests the demons somehow got ahold of the Scythe.

Joss really needs to write that Fray sequel he promised to write to explain the discrepencies between Chosen and Fray.

there aren't discrepancies between Chosen and Fray, just open space. I forget how far into the future Fray is, if they ever even say it, but it's what, at least a century. That's plenty of time for the scythe to change hands any number of times.

Yeah, true, but...wouldn't you like to know the answer to questions like how did the demons get the scythe, and how does the slayer line go from multiple slayers back to a chosen one line?

I didn't even think about that n4h. Okay so it's obvious that Urkonn is a demon but I never went "Heeey, wait a minute, why is Urkonn helping Fray if he is a demon? And where did he come from if there were no more demons after the battle?"
Maybe the demons got a hold on the Scythe cause the wather's counsil "lost" it or rather; didn't care for it anymore. Or maybe the demon's just stole the damn thing.

Joss definitely needs to write a sequel. I have many sleepless nights behind me thinking about such things as how the slayer line went from lots of chosen ones to only one. Urkonn never mentions that there are any other chosen ones besides Fray. It could be the fact that no one was called after all those girls after Chosen that made the line go from multiple to single.
And what did the vamps do for all that time? Obviously hiding but I'm sure they must have been up to something more than just that.

I've no doubt that we will eventually see exactly what happens to the scythe, not to mention the reasons why the slayerline ended up being restored to a single Chosen One.

I would guess that the scythe would have ended up in the care of either Buffy or Giles. Despite no longer being the only slayer i get the feeling that Buffy continued to hold some status amongst the army of Chosen as the one that led them to victory so if any slayer kept it then it would have been her. More likely though, she would have given it to Giles to keep safe for when it was really needed again.

As far as the question of the slayer line goes, i would guess that something happens prior to the final battle described in Fray that makes it neccessary to restore the slayer line to it's former, one girl at a time, status.

I'm actually hoping that when (not if) a Buffy/Angel movie trilogy happens it will tell the story of the final battle that leads to the demon realms being cut off from earth and their eventual return seen in Fray. Hopefully this final battle will also turn out to be the end result of the big apocalypse that the Senior Partners have been arranging for centuries. If that was the case then it would be an amazing way of combining the storylines of Buffy and Angel again, as well as setting up the events of Fray.

Considering that Buffy is in charge, I think she probably still kept it.

I understand that some people believe that Buffy might want to take it easy and maybe have a bit of a normal life, but I doubt she retired from slaying entirely. I can imagine her patrolling around Italy.

Plus, we see Buffy (well what we think is Buffy) wielding the scythe in the battle described in Fray.

And the scythe was destined for her. I think there is some importance in to Buffy keeping the scythe. I mean, after all, why was she the slayer to find it?

Absolutely, Buffy was the one to find the scythe for a reason.
I agree... well with the possible exception of the Senior Partner's apocalypse being the same one described in Fray. I've always thought the battle described in Fray was sort of connected with the Old Ones, after all, that is what the scythe was for.

Maybe we will both be right. What i want to see happen is for all the loose threads to the plots of the two shows tied up in the movie trilogy, should we ever see one. Maybe the Old Ones will play a part in the final battle too. Perhaps Illyria will decide that waking them up is the best way to prevent the Senior Partners from taking control of the earth dimension but in doing so she makes the problem worse, forcing Buffy to find a way to remove all demonic life from our realm.

It's all speculation obviously but itwould be nice to think that this major Apocalypse we have heard so much about in Angel will actually be MAJOR, and not just the next apocalypse on the list. The best way i can think of having that be the case is to connect everything together for one final blowout battle in movie form. Surely something as epic and final as that will satisfy not only the fans but also Sarah and David's need to have the movies be something worthwhile.

I think they'd keep it save somewhere and only let a slater use when it was really needed e.g. an apcalypse etc otherwise it could quite easily fall into the wrong hands which would not be good!!!

I might be wrong, but wasn't the ceremony at the start of Fray Urkonn's way of moving from his demon dimension to ours? Don't... ooh, what's their faces... the fat thing and the little scuttly guy... refer to the fact that they can't mess around with the borders to reality because they've already done damage just to get Urkonn there?

My thinking was that whatever The Big Event was that kicked out all of the demons, wiped out all the scythe Slayers as well. Whatever regulates the traditional one-at-a-time flow of the slayers is older and more powerful than Willow's one-off spell, so it simply returned to it's former routine. What was it Adam said about unstable magic righting itself?

I think it was Urkonn's way of moving from his demon dimension to ours. I don't remember what Adam said but didn't I hear something like that in the episode "Superstar"?

[Cough cough] I'm not sure Buffy was in charge after Willow's spell. One of the things that made her in-charge-girl was the fact that she was the chosen one (appart from that bossy personality). I really think, as you mentioned, that Buffy wanted to take it easy for a while, rest and be just a "normal" girl.

I think it's supposed to be Buffy (or at least as we know it, probably not in Frayverse) in that scene describing the final battle. But that was before they killed them all and Sunnydale became Sunnyhole. You can't tell from that particular picture what happened to the scythe later on.
I'm not sure but do we really know if Buffy is the first slayer to find the scythe? Again, I have no idea about this so I'm only asking. Seems just a bit odd that the scythe would be destined for her as there were so many slayers down the line, great slayers who fought battles just as big as Buffy. Just thinking about part of this dialogue from 'End of days' when Buffy makes a good point

FAITH: It's old"¦ it's strong and it feels like"¦ like it's mine. (realizes) I guess that means it's yours.

BUFFY: It belongs to the Slayer.

FAITH: Slayer in charge"¦ which I'm guessing is you.

BUFFY: I honestly don't know. Does it matter?

FAITH: It never mattered to me. Somebody has to lead. Let's vote for Chao-ahn. It's harder to lead people into a deathtrap if you don't speak English.

(And I have to laugh at the Chao-ahn joke)

All great theories, but this is mine.

Buffy dropped it on her way out of Sunnydale. So it's somewhere in the rubbles along with Spike's shiny stone. So if someone got it I think it'd be Lindsey while he was Spike hunting and he in return probably sold it to some monks in return for some neat tatoos.

Probably Giles has it in safe keeping. It's probably only brought out when extremely needed, considering that all the potentials are activated and ubervamps are destoryed. Is it really worthwhile anymore? (Besides being supersharp?)

And somewhere along the line it fell into the wrong hands..... (although I've never read Fray)

Most likely Giles has it. It's probably still used though. I don't think they'd let it just sit

Well since Andrew said that "direct orders came from Buffy herself" (or something to that nature) in Season Five of Angel, I thought that it was obvious that Buffy would be in charge of all the slayers and maybe even the new Watcher's Council. After all, she does have the most experience and does well under pressure with decision making. CEO of Slayers Inc.

Also, I disagree with the statement about Buffy finding the scythe. I believe that it was destined for Buffy and Buffy alone. We all know there is something special about her. Coming back from the dead twice, being the slayer to kill the Master, beating down Glory, the First obviously was sort of obsessed with her, and even the possibility of her in the Fray battle. I think Buffy is probably one of the most important slayers. And I seriously doubt many other slayers dealt with as much as she did. I don't think many of them went up against anything near the level of Glory or Caleb.

Your points about Buffy and her importance/quality of being the slayer are very correct. Well put.
Yes it did. Sorry I used bad tempus. I just meant that at first it was in the big ol' hole, but then came Lindsey and rescued it.

Okay, good point. But still, after seeing Buffy in season 6 and season 7, it feels like she wasn't that into being the girl in charge again. She does have most experience and no doubt about her doing well under pressure, and she can probably never just abandon the slayer gig, but I'm thinking she wanted to keep a low profile at first. Maybe Buffy gave orders to Andrew, no doubt that he would follow them as he has a lot of respect for her, but not sure if that automatically makes her the one in charge. And maybe there were not just one person in charge. Could be that Buffy, Faith, Willow and say Giles or Xander were all in charge together? I'm realizing that Buffy could too have kept the scythe, but I'm sure she passed it on to someone else sooner than later.

Buffy is obviosuly the greatest slayer of them all since the series is about her, it comes kinda naturally IMO. True, she went against great evil such as Glory and Caleb and everybody seemed to know about her (at least as we hear from Dracula). But my stubborn brain still wants to believe that all slayers fought as great battles as Buffy (in their own measures) and that the scythe belongs to the slayer (or the slayer in charge) as Buffy and Faith mention. But I'm concidering other options...

Possibly the Scyth, having fulfilled its purpose at that time, was reclaimed by some sort of mystical force in the same way both Excalibur (the parallels between the two are just too obvious to ignore) and Durindahl were reclaimed once their missions were complete. That would explain the fact that it was basicly lost until Fray's time.
