In a romantic sense the answer is obviously Buffy. Angel and Cordy had what? two kisses? Making your question stupid, in the context of romance.

.

Dear oh dear, what kind of schmuck are you? From what I can see you seem to be insulting everybody in the thread that has an opinion that differs to your own lame views.

Sort it out now FFS.

Someone thinks they're a smartass. Ok then, smarty. Explain to me how..

I mean in the romantic sense. Buffy and Angel obviously had that true love thing going (and perfect happiness for Angel), but the Angel/Cordelia one was a little more complicated, it never really happened or took off, but there was something very moving in that final scene she had with Angel in season 5 'You're Welcome'.

What do you think?

..Your question makes sense, when you actually state that Angel/Cordelia "never really happened or took off"?

The answer to your question only exists in the imagination, it has nothing to do with the show, therefore, your question is stupid, as I've already said.

Jesus, you even point it out in your opening post.

Wow. Okay, so lets just all calm down for a moment please. We seem to be getting a bit off topic and for those of you who are trolling the boards, please knock it off. Its old and tired to those of us who have seen it over and over and over again.

Back to the main topic, I'm totally on the B/A bandwagon. Been a diehard B/A'er for years and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I never agreed with the Cordy/Angel thing because it seemed to me just like a convenient plot idea. It didn't take that much thought to put two main characters together...it just never caught my attention the way the dynamics of the B/A relationship did.

C, you know I love you, but this is one thing in which we will never see eye to eye. But I do agree with you about the whole you don't have to be physical to have love. If you love someone and you never kiss them or hold them, does that mean you love them less? I think not. An emotion is an emotion no matter if you act on it or not.

Subtext within film and televison is obviously a concept you know *nothing* about.

Have you ever heard of Romantic chemistry? No of course you haven't, coz your a challenged person. However Angel and Cordy had that in abundance. They were in love and didn't even know it until it was too late. They had a love both of them knew they could never act upon. They admitted this to each other in the show, a show you obviously weren't watching closely enough. Perhaps it was too adult for you.

Okay, lets try to keep this civil before the mods get wind of this, please. Let's try to keep the name calling to a minimum, because it detracts from the intelligence of the conversation.

I was playing nice. My two occasions of name calling were both in jest.

Wha? Do you actually understand what subtext is? The show CLEARLY stated that Angel was in love with Cordelia. Would that be the literal interpretation of subtext, you know, plain ol' text.

Have you ever heard of Romantic chemistry? No of course you haven't, coz your a challenged person.
"You're", not "your".

Angel was in love with Cordelia. Cordelia didn't realise she had feelings until the last episode of season 3. Their romance only played in your head.

I thought it was pretty obvious that there was lots of subtext to hint that Cordy had growing feelings for Angel way before she said it out loud.

Well, of course there was. Way back from seasons 1-3 of BTVS. But, that doesn't mean that Angel necessarily returned all her feelings.

Ahhh, Subtext, the last 'Bastion' of an argument that cannot be won by hard facts alone. Sometimes even the greatest writers realise a Spade is JUST a Spade.
In the case of Cordy and Angel, there wasn't any subtext, it was plain as frikking day what was going on, and the way they were writing it was the obvious tack.
Subtext, in this case, is a means of saying(writing) one thing that totally implies another.
How does this occur in the Angel/Cordy relationship.
When the writers began this chain of events, we were allowed the priviledge of seeing it as well. We were there, it was told to us.

Without trying to join in the less than savoury aspect of this argument, i do have certain issues with what some are saying...for instance.

You don't have to kiss to be romantic

No, you don't there doesn't have to be any physical connection at all, however BOTH parties must be aware of the interaction. Cordy was completely ignorant of both her and Angels feelings, there was no romance in this, none at all. There was secret, unrequited lust and desire, but they are not romance.

Angel and Cordy's relationship grew over time, going from casual allies to friends to something more than friends. They obviously loved each other very much and had very strong feelings for each other, and their chemistry was better as well (IMO, anyway). And in the 100th episode where they kiss, there's probably just as much - or more, in that kiss than there was ever between Angel and Buffy.

While i DO agree that Angel and Cordelias relationship grew over time, I have to disagree with you on the highlighted part.
All we have is what the writers put on screen. We can only take what they believed again by what they decided to show us.
If that is the case, then Angel and Cordelias relationship wasn't as great as everyone here is trying to make out.
As i've said before, with the show as proof, Angel didn't seem to have much time for Cordelia hours after Home ended. Infact, if i remember correctly, he was in Sunnydale getting mightily peeved that Buffy might be doing the do with Spike. IF that wasn't enough, weeks after that 'Kiss thats just as much - if not more' he is asking a werewolf out on a date, then trying to save his 'true love' from a being known as the Immortal.
The Writers decided that they wanted us to know that Buffy was the love of his life, NOT Cordelia, because I know that if the woman i truly loved died, it would be more than a couple of weeks before i was dating again.

Exactly, infact if we remember correctly, it wasn't even her that realised it. Groo did. He told her. Maybe someday she'd have realised herself, but the fact remains, Cordelia was only aware of her true feelings for Angel that night and her time in 'Paradise'. After that, it wasn't 'Cordelia' again until You're Welcome, where again, she has a day with the man she loves, but the Man, obviously has stronger feelings for someone else....or so we are told to believe.

I really don't mean to join in the argument, but technically within the argument, Dzhugashvili and Crushed Dead Boone were the ones having it, and you were the one who decided to join in.
Way I see it, you don't like what someone writes, don't read and reply. You have helped perpetuate the argument by joining in.
Dzhugashvili has always had a penchant for this kind of argument, its no excuse but best way to deal is just simply respond to whatever he says regarding the topic.
Though, on a selfish level, i don't mind the replies cause myself and others have enjoyed this😉.
You don't want trolls, don't respond.

Yeah, because as someone who has both been aggressor and aggressee its old hat😉
LOL, remember back in the day when we lacked the maturity of some and fell into the pit of argumentative off topic bickering......ahhh, twas fun for a time, but we have grown up a bit.

Sorry, I don't agree with that. It's complete rubbish.
If you truly believe this, then I am afraid you need to revisit the show.
Dzhugashvili is absolutely correct, there was the few moments of love and desire, but as far as romance between the two goes, there was none because there actual romantic relationship was not explored. Not even in 'Waiting in the Wings' which is the closest they came, because its not Angel or Cordelia, them bam as its about to be explored, Groo shows up and the whole thing gets put on hiatus.

I wish people would not use subtext here. It wasn't subtext.
There was a definite attraction from Cordelia in Buffy.
Its not subtext if its being shown as is.
Angel in Buffy, may have thought she was attractive, but we know from the kind of person that Angel was, he'd not be interested in that Cordelia on an emotional, intellectual or even horizontal level.
This is still clear in season 1 Angel. If he had any hidden feelings for her, there would have been some jealousy regarding Doyle's intentions for Cordy. There was none.

A Final Note.
Had the relationship of Cordelia and Angel been given a better chance, like say 'Don't kill the babe' i think these two would have had a lasting relationship because there foundations were truly solid.

Oh, how sweet...you remembered. -_- :D
Well this was a fun thread to read...
Angel and Buffy had the 'love' for each other from the get go. He had that love at first sight for her and she had that I lost my virginity to you love for him. Their arguments/fights were 'highschool' in nature because well she was in highschool.
With Cordy the relationship grew from tolerating each other to being true friends who learned about each others faults which they helped each other overcome which helped them mature as adults.
Sometimes it takes a kick in the britches for true friends who love each other to realize they 'romantically' love each other (Groo told Cordy and Lorne told Angel). Unfortunately the show did not allow this romantic love to develop so the question/possibility of knowing if they were romantically in love with each other is the 64 thousand dollar question. Could Cordy and Angel have been romantic lovers? Seeing as how it wasn't answered it made sense for Angel to date Werewolf girl and keep tabs on Buffy.
I liked the 'poetic romantacism' of Cordy and Angel.

Yeah, like did you ever consider their romatic link may have grown out of twin epiphanies? Cordelia's in To Shanhu in L.A., Angel's in Epiphany.

After these their outlooks' merge. They develop a special bond, and see things in a way only the other can truly understand.

that's when we noticed the love of friends had the possibility of romantic love
Well, I'm not sure I got the exact question with all the isquabbling going on.... so, I'm going to give my two cents.

In terms of a working relationship, he definitely had a great one with Buffy. And even from a die-hard anti Bangel, they did have a nice romantic relationship for a while.

But, I think that Angel and Cordelia really grew together on Angel. Without the Sunnydale backdrop, Cordelia really changed. She became counted on and respected...and that in turn blossomed into a relationship with Angel. Even though she didn't realize it (I think Angel realized it first), that doesn't mean they didn't share a connection. They definitely had something going. And had the show continued and Cordelia had not died, we might have seen so much more.
