Who do you think had the most depressing arc of the 6th season?

Willow's addiction to magicks
Anya/Xander's wedding Hell
Dawn's lonesome
Buffy's emptiness thinking and knowing she was in Heaven and kicked out of

My first thought was Buffy. Every time I watch S6 my heart just breaks for her. However, after thinking about it a little bit, my answer is Willow. Buffy's arc is incredibly sad, but the way it wraps up in "Grave" is awesome, especially with how she and Dawn come together at the end. Plus, I really enjoyed, for the most part, her arc with Spike and Tara that season.

Willow though, just completely self-destructs. She spirals totally out of control with magic and things go steadily downhill every step of the way is more uncomfortable than the one before it. Seeing her snap at Giles, erase Tara's memory, screw up spells with disastrous consequences left and right, break up with Tara, hurt Dawn, get involved with Rack, all of it, was just horrible. Then, when things finally start to turn around for her, Tara gets shot and killed right in front her, right at the same time Buffy gets shot. After that she snaps and goes right off the deep end, and by the time she crumbles into Xander's arms in "Grave" he's just totally broken. There's no happy ending there.

There was a lot of stuff I didn't really care for in regards to Willow during S6, but I felt awful for her all the way through.

spot on
I on my S6 rewatch right now

And my god Willow's story is so good this is my 4th rewatch of S6(only watched the other seasons twice though) and it just gets better. Willow story is great and preformed to perfection by Alyson. Sence this is my 4th rewatch my eye catchs some of the smaller stuff.

Depresssing though goes to Tara who just starts to fit in with the scoobies and find her place connect. And Willow mucks with her head leaveing her no choice but to back away from Willow. Its heartbreaking and depressing she's not there after Willow's ordeal with Rack
And then they get back togather...then bang bang BANG!

Tara doesn't fare too well in season 6 either - she is subjected to the same magic Glory used on her then breaks up with what may be the love of her life then just when she reconciles, she is shot and killed.

Willow. Complete self destruction, guilt, addiction, anger- it ruins her. She alienates herself from Tara, Giles and Dawn.

About Buffy and Dawn.... I could really identify with Buffy's depression and Dawn's feelings of isolation and resorting to such behaviours as stealing and playing around with spells. However, they, I dunno how to explain this, recovered together. There's this beautiful moment in the season 6 opener, when after everyone seems so happy that Buffy is back yet utterly puzzled by her behaviour, and we have Buffy standing on the crane, which is about to collapse, Dawn reminds Buffy of how much she loves her. They pull each other back from low points in season 6, (There problems still exist and never go away, which has a lot of truth in it) whereas Willow struggles, it's The Downward Spiral.

After watching Hell's Bell's I remember crying at the end, as I did in Entropy. Seeing Anya at her most fragile, and to then sleep with Spike, and for then to see Xander snap at her was awful. Very difficult arc to write about, yet I do think Willow is the most depressing. Willow is such an intelligent individual, a kind, loving soul who has made significant advances in magic (which turned into an addiction).

Also, I swear- the more I rewatch season 6, the more devastating and sad it becomes.

I love S6 its showed us an even more devasteing breaking up of the scoobies then S4 but even though all of this they prevail this time its persnal this times it one of there own.

You know you could have stoped Buffy right there with the salvation of Willow and I would have been happy throw in the England trip for Willow and then the shot of her returning to place the stones at Tara's grave and roll credits.
The show started with the death of there best friend the show ened with the death of a best friend.

But we got S7 and there was still the return to the start type finish so its all good

I'd probably go with Willow. She starts out showing some trouble signs but otherwise basically OK, and we can see how she's grown into a leader... so much unlike the Willow of Season 1. Then the entire season is the story of her spiraling out of control, with, granted, a few upswings.

Buffy's story, while definitely sad to watch, is still ultimately an arc of recovery over the course of the season.
