Hi guys!
I just saw Queen of the Damned and I was wondering that seeing that quite a lot of you are Anne Rice fans I was wondering who do you think could play a better Lestat.
I would say Tom Cruise is definatley a better Lestat than Stuart Townsend.
Stuart Townsend sleepwalks through his role of Lestat and it's more than boring, its painful. He takes off his shirt from time to time to keep the teenyboppers interested. But Townsend can't do it. Its almost unfair to have put him in such a role where he is obviously not ready. With his droopy, nearly comatose eyes and the perpetual sheepish half grin that looks like "one of the film crew just told a joke and I'm not sure I got it but everyone else is laughing, so..." Townsend drops the ball and so drops the movie.
Tom Cruise though is lithesome, charismatically nuanced, unexpectedly mesmerizing and the way the character of Lestat should be.
What do you think guys?

Stuart Townsend just didn't seem to grasp the role right, I much prefer Tom Cruise, and i'm not normally a fan of his either.

i am a huge anne rice fan and i think that tom cruise did a much much better job as lestat, besides that he looks like how lestat is described in the book, he was much better at portraying lestat's character..thats my opinon anyway

yeah blake, i didn't really like it much either, well the movie anyway, the book was really good

Compare to the book, the film QotD sucked. Don't like Tom Cruise but he did give a better performance of Lestat. To be honest neither really got the character right - I think Brad Pitt would have been a betetr choice to play Lestat instead of Louis. 😉

I went with Tom Cruise, although I didn't hate Stuart Townsend in Queen of the Damned.

To be fair, whenever Aaliyah wasn't on-screen my attention tended to wander...man she was smokin-hot in that movie!

Mostly I think QotD was doomed because they kinda skipped the whole second Vampire Chronicles book, and they made an incomprehensible (but kinda fun) mess of the third with a few elements of the second in it. I don't think Laurence Olivier could have turned in an overly effective Lestat with that script.

I think Brad was best with Louis, although it would have been interesting to see him try Lestat.

Hi Cordelia
But I kinda have to disagree there but I do not really think that Brad Pitt could have played Lestat, and that I believe that Tom Cruise the character completley right.
But that's your opinion.
However there were loads of flaws with the movie Queen of the Damned:
1 Lestat did not have blond hair, when in the book Lestat to have blond hair is very important as his hair is like a flame.
2. The did not make the second film so the film did not make sense
3. They did not even say that this film was the sequel so when people saw it people did not understand what was going on
4. If they did make the socond film they should have used Tom Cruise

It's just the physical description sounded more like Brad Pitt - when he has blonde hair that is, not brown as he was playing Louis - is all and I definitely would have liked to have seen him play Lestat to see what he would have done with the part. Character wise I think Tom Cruise did it some justice, he just looked all wrong.

Tom Cruise.

I have not seen all of Queen of the Damned though. I just didn't really like what I did see.

I haven't seen either of the movies, but Tom Cruise is a far superior actor, so I voted for him.

It didn't help that QotD was so chopped up and *******ized it didn't even resemble the original books, and that probably made it hard to act convincingly.

However, Tom was Lestat. Stuart just 'vants to suck your blood! blah!... blah!...'

That is very true,I think Stuart should have worked on Lestat a lot longer before laying anything down on film. His Bela Legosi impersonation throughout the film made me weep for the return of Tom Cruise.
However Stuart Townsend was always a very controversial choice (widely boo-ed), especially when the film showed him as Lestat... with brown hair.
However Townsend is getting popular he has now 2 votes
