Who is the major death?

Who is the "big death" of season 8?

I know we've been talking about this, but I wanted to put it in poll form. It'd be fun to have a pool, but I'm guessing we're a no-gambling website LOL. 😉

So anyway, based on who we know is going to have titles or at least appear in season 9, plus who's on the cover of #40, plus any miscellaneous info we've read (like Jeanty's comment that Dander will go on in season 9), we know that the main characters who will live are: Buffy, Giles, Faith, Xander, Dawn, Willow, Angel, Spike. Thus, here are the top contenders for our big major death:

-Riley
-Kennedy
-Andrew

If there are any others you can think of, let me know and I'll add them (I can edit the poll, right?).

ETA that I voted for Riley. Sad as I am to say that, I think it would have a big impact: he made big sacrifices to be a double agent for Buffy, he is well-liked by everybody, he has a wife who is also well-liked & would be devastated, & he almost left the monster-fighting life behind.

Andrew comes in 2nd for me: Buffy declared him family. That's enough to get him killed. 😉 But if they're going to have a male gay relationship in season 9, he'd be the obvious choice, so they may keep him around.
 
I REALLY REALLY Want it to be Kennedy but I don't want that to be the reason Willow goes dark again. That would suck. Unfortunately I don't think it will be Kennedy. I dont see the point in it being her unless to pull another Tara. But I don't see the point in killing Riley or Andrew either unless one of them is the betrayer.

I voted for Riley.

Mostly because Andrew was injured a few comics ago, but I think he's still alive as of right now. And I don't think they'd kill Kennedy off because the whole "no one in buffyverse can have a long relationship" is getting old.
 
I don't read the comics but I think I would want it to be Kennedy. Poor Willow =(
 
None of them would really count as major death to me, maybe Andrew because I adore him.
Kennedy and Riley I could not care less about, but I hope if anyone dies, it's Riley. I am so sick of his presence..
I do hate Kennedy, but I just want Willow to break up with her already!
 
Probably Riley, simply because he's the least essential to the show now. plus he has a wife to grieve for him, which always makes a good scene, especially when you consider that he more or less came out of retirement to do this one last thing for Buffy. Plus, it would make an absolutely fantastic scene, as well as ironic, if he died saving Spike.

So, of the three mentioned, my vote would be for Riley. Andrew's only real purpose is comic relief, so killing him off wouldn't really change much (especially when you consider that we would then have only Angel to laugh at all through Season 9) and Kennedy's death has to be at the end of the last season, whether it be 9, 10, or whatever, so that Willow can remain on the side of good up until that point.

We don't really know they will live though. DH has told us bold face lies several times in the interest of maintaining the story. So, whilst we may have assurances or implications from the DH staff that certain characters will survive I would not hang my hat on them.

Personally, I think Giles, Willow or Xander is going to die. I'm edging towards Giles simply because of a) What we know about Fray and the last great watcher dying in the final battle and b) his story, if he were to survive, does not have many places to go. As horrible as it sounds, he has served his purpose as watcher.
 
None of them count as a major death for me except maybe Andrew. I really won't care if Riley or Kennedy dies. It will be good riddance.

It has to be Dawn. There always seems to be a major death from season 5 upwards...Joyce, Tara, Anya and maybe Dawn.

This makes me beyond sad. If Giles dies, I'm going to have to pretend the comics never happened.

If I had to choose, I'd hope for Kennedy, but from what I've been reading I think the death will hit everyone a little harder than that, so it is more likely to be one of the core. Of course, I am just now catching up on the comics and have just been reading spoilers and discussion for the last several episodes, so I don't know!

Georges Jeanty mentioned that the Xander & Dawn relationship will "go on" in season 9. And didn't somebody read that there will be more Faith/Giles interaction in season 9? I may be just dreaming up that last part, but I read the Dander stuff myself.
 
Lots of Kennedy hate here - I think I'm in the minority of those that just don't mind Kennedy all that much. Don't love her, just don't loathe her like some.

That said - I'm with the others who say it'll be Rileyof these choices. He seems the most likely option.

I don't hate her, and I like her a heckuva lots more in the comics- just wish she wasn't with Willow, I actually like her with Satsu.

I like Kennedy too! Not a huge fan or anything, but I don't think she's really as bad as some fans make her out to be.
I think it will be Dawn. Major pain for Buffy? Check. Xander's girlfriend? Check. Almost killed in a previous finale, one that Joss is eager to top? Check. Almost killed in the previous issue, thereby lulling the readers in a false sense of security. Check. A woman (all the big deaths on BtVS have been of female characters)? Check.

In short - beaten to death Jossian cliché? Check. 😀

Wait, Jeanty's also said that the cover of #40 is misleading. How can we know for sure that Faith and Giles won't die?

My vote is for Faith. Death, or at the very least severe injury/uncertain survival. Jeanty said in his recent Q&A that she "does something remarkable"...sounds to me as something sacrificial?
