Is it her best friend (Willow)?
Her father figure and watcher (Giles)?
Her biggest supporter (Spike)?
Her ex boyfriend (Angel)?
The one who knows what's like to be a Slayer (Faith)?
Her mother (Joyce)?
Her sister (Dawn)?

Who??
And in what sense, knows her best?

Either Xander or Willow. Or, depending on if Dawn read her diary, well, Dawn.

It just seemed like she shared more with her.

Pre-season 7, I would say that Willow knows her best, but in season 8 and later, probably Xander. It seemed like, while she probably loved both equally, she had more heart-to-heart talks with Willow on the show.

In my opinion, all those people that are mentioned knows Buffy in a way that nobody else knows. For example:

Willow knows Buffy in a way that Giles doesn't know her.
Giles knows Buffy in a way that's different than Spike knowing her
Spike knows Buffy in a way that's different than Angel
Angel knows her in a way that's different than Faith
Faith knows BUffy in a way that's different than Joyce
Joyce knows Buffy in a way that's different than Dawn
And Dawn knows Buffy in a way that's different than Willow.

Thinking about it some more, I'd probably have to go with Joyce and Giles. In later seasons, quite possibly Spike and Willow.

Almost certainly, as a person, Joyce knew Buffy better than any of the ones mentioned. She has, obviously, known Buffy longer and a much more personal way than any of those who you named.

As to who knows best just what being a Slayer means, obviously Faith would be the most logical choice.

As far as knowing the pain and conflict that Buffy has suffered, quite possibly Spike, since he has experienced quite similar things himself, plus has been arguably Buffy's closest confidante during her time of greatest suffering.

Willow is probably the one who knows and can sympathize the most what it's like to be "different" from all of the people around her and never quite having a true equal to share her problems with.

Giles and Angel almost certainly believe that they know Buffy better than anyone else, and most importantly what is "best" for Buffy, though they have both proven, not just once, but several times, that their knowledge is based more on what they THINK Buffy is, or should be, like than what she really is.

Dawn just plain doesn't have a clue.

No single person knows the total Buffy. Some know particular aspects of her personality and some others only believe hat they know her. In truth, Buffy Summers, the Vampire Slayer, has more facets than a finely cut diamond, and no one, not friend, family, or lover, will ever know all of her.

Except, of course, me.

Each person on that list knows Buffy individually for reasons of there own. Although overall I think Willow probably knows her the best, she seems to have a good all round view of everything Buffy is and does.

I can't believe Xander isn't even on the list of some people. He is easily the one who knows Buffy best. Also, it's not because Joyce is Buffy's mom that she knows her best, she never showed much interest in Buffy. At least from what we've seen in the show. She is way down the list.

I'd go with Xander > Spike > Willow > Giles. Others are much lower.

I would have to say that the people who spend the most time with her know her best. Angel did know her best when they were together, but when they seperated they both changed and so he did not know her best anymore. Other than that, it seems to me that she spends the most time overall with Willow. She talks most of her issues out with Willow and I'd say they seem the tightest so Willow knows her best.

Honestly, I think they all know her differently. I wouldn't ever say that one of them knew her "better" than the other. Joyce knows things that her friends may never know about her, Angel, Riley and Spike know her in a way that completely different than Giles, Willow and Xander.

As far as who she opens up to the most, I'd say she is fairly open with Angel, Spike and Willow.

like has been said, i think they all know very different parts of her and know her differently.

but overall i'd have to say it's a toss up between spike, giles (although certainly NOT giles in season 7), and faith. i think she has the strongest connections with them. and i'd venture to say, spike maybe most of all.

Either Spike or Giles. For Spike, just look at his speech in "Touched"--he's seen her at her worst, seen her at her best. He knows what it's like to be a Slayer (having killed two of them, discovered their death wish). He's amazingly perceptive in general. Giles was the only one to suspect Buffy was in heaven without being told, managed to see through her cheerful facade unlike the others who simply accepted (or refused to think further) that she was in Hell.

But I think probably Spike. Giles always had a blind spot when it came to her views and feelings on Spike and Angel.

I think Spike does, because she opened up to him, he saw her worst side, and viewed her both when he did and did not have a soul.

Early seasons I go with Angel. Later seasons I go with Spike. Both of them knew her very, very well.

I'd agree with the majority here and would have to say Spike. Spike seemed to fully understand her as The Slayer. The Slayer was a constant part of her, all the torment, responsibility, sacrifice, and pain that she went through on a daily basis....he seemed to understand in some way. He'd studied slayers, killed them and knew the power they held. She opened up to him in ways she never did with Giles, or Xander, or even Willow. Spike is the one who knew her so well he had no doubt she would save the world. He was able to remind her of her own strength and so in a way knew her better then she knew herself.

I think they all knew different aspects of her and her life. As with anyone in life you have different friends for different things, like you would not share your deep secret with all your friends but just a select few. And you would not go out partying with all your friends but just a few would be chosen. Same with Buffy, she would chose who to open up to about what. Hope that makes some sense lol.
