Who likes Angel?

Right, I'm seeing too much Angel hate around here, so I'm calling all Angel fans to this, here thread to establish some Angel love!

I think the Angel hate is totally irrational. 😛 so let's show some love...please. Before I lose all faith! 😀

It's not so much him being with Buffy that I'm referring to, well I guess it kind of is, in the sense that its through that discussion on and off the Board that I get this impression that a lot of people hate Bangel because they hate Angel, which makes them look at the relationship itself differently. I don't know, could be another one of those whacky theories of mine! 😛 But I've seen a lot of 'Angel's boring' 'I just hate him' so I think it's time to show the guy some love! (sw)

As stated before, I don't hate Angel, I think that he's a pretty interesting, if somewhat shallow, character (my opinion, you don't have to agree). As far as him with Buffy, since the first episode that I ever saw was "Once More With Feeling," and he was long gone by then, I came to think of him, and I still do, whenever I think of him as "the other vampire who Buffy slept with." I never even watched Angel's show until about the end of Season 4. I don't even really dislike the Bangel relationship. In it's time, in its place, it had all of the elements of a Shakespearean play: starcrossed lovers, feuding "families," love denied that, once realized, ends tragically. It was practically a remake of "Romeo And Juliet," and its end was just that predictable.

Now. I'm not saying that Spike was all that much better (he was, I'm just not saying it) but his affair with Buffy had the unique twist of being a love affair that started badly and got progressively better. If there had been a televised Season 8 with Spike still there, he and Buffy would have almost certainly gotten to dance to "Wind Beneath My Wings before mid-season.

(God, I wish Miss K was here to tear into me for that.)

I like Angel. More so now than the first time around. And the guy broods. So what? Just reminds me of me. And you got to like yourself right? 😉 But I have to say that he's so much better in his own show. Not only because it has no Bangel (go Cangel!) but he grows so much as a character.

Yeah, strangely, both Angel and Spike seem to improve once they're away from Buffy. Evewn Riley supposedly got better. Do you think she's a bad influence on men in general?
I LOVED Angel during Buffy, but I got increasingly away from Angel love as ATS went on...I don't know if it was the [opinion]bad[/opinion] relationship choices or what. But I just didn't like him as much for some reason.

Probably because he put on about 30 to 40 pounds!

That didn't seem to change her string of luck. Though only a two night stand, Buffy's affair with Satsu ended the same way that her affairs with Angel and Riley, and even to a certain extent, Spike, did. They all wound up leaving one way or another, and the separation at least seemed to be for the best. Maybe Buffy's bad luck with lovers is more her fault than theirs.
 
I actually liked Angel more on Angel than Buffy. He developed more as a character and got to be more of his own person, rather than just being Buffy's boyfriend/lover that she could not have. Though, I don't really know what happened with him season 4 :S That season was.. nah, I did not like him in that season :/
 
Hrm, Angel. He's just a bit of a 'meh' character in my opinion. I wouldn't say I dislike him, but I wouldn't say I like him either.

I always felt he was overshadowed by the other characters around him.
 
I LOVE Angel. He's a fantastic, layered, and fascinating character. Sure, he has his flaws - but they all do. Despite his self-righteous, broody, and utilitarian attitude, he's certainly one of my very favorites in the 'verse. And man, is he funny. 😉
 
Yes! Angel is hilarious. I kind of missed Angel at the end of season 3, there was definitely a void without him, but while he was on Buffy he lit up the screen. Part of it, for me anyways, has to do with the fact that David Boreanaz isn't your typical guy, but he goes from badass to clutz and doofus so fluidly.

The brooding, quiet nature of Angel attracted me to the character though. I'm a lot like that, except minus the fangs. And super smell... well, maybe the super smell but definitely no fangs. The only big negative to his role on the show--which wasn't really about who he was--had to do with the Buffy/Angel relationship. It made sense due to the Shakespearean-ness of it, the star-crossed-lovers thing, but I never understood why they fell so deeply in love with each other. That bothered me a bit, but never to the point that I disliked the character.

One of my top scenes of both shows is the look on Angel's face after he gives Cordy a bunch of new clothes.

There are moments that I love him and there are moment that I don't like him. But there are more moments that I love him. He's a hilarious character and soooo cute
 
Why should I hate him? He's my favorite character in Ats. He's handsome and became funnier and funnier guy. I like the way he smiles.(But don't ask me about him in BtVS because he's a little boring, lol)
 
You see, a lot of people like him in AtS but not so much in BtvS...which I don't get! lol

The most common thing I see is 'boring', but for me he was one of the most interesting characters in early BtvS. He was what made Season 2 my favourite season, and Season 3 my close second, lol. I don't know, maybe I actually prefer him on BtvS? I can't decide. 😛
