Who Likes Nina?

I think that she was a sweet girl, and totally sincere about her feelings for Angel, and I am also sure that he had genuine affection for her. He at least cared enough about her to try and get her out of LA before the final battle, and, furthermore, he promised to join her afterwards if he survived.

Whether anything more serious would have developed between them in a televised Season 6 is anybody's guess, and she's being almost totally ignored in the comics, so I guess we'll never really know, but I saw real potential there, especially if she could have learned to control her changes and remain more or less dominant over the wolf instincts while changed, something like the panther woman, whose name I can't recall at the moment, does. That way, she could have helped him fight demons.

I like her and Angel together but I don't really care either way. I like her just fine but I don't miss her in the comics. I never got a real feel for her character, she was just kind of there.

I didn't care about her one way or another. I felt like she could've been anyone. She was just a kind of filler girlfriend for Angel. Maybe if they'd gotten another season they'd have developed her character more. I never felt like they had really great chemistry or anything.

I like her very much. She's such a girl who came outta nowhere(I mean it in good way). She really liked Angel and she is nice. Aww, I love how she was with her family. I felt sorry for her that Angel didn't love her as much as she loved him.

I liked Nina as a character, too. It was interesting to see a female werewolf, and how differently she dealt with it than Oz had. She was a pretty girl, and I totally agree that her feelings for Angel were genuine. What concerned me was that it was clear he didn't feel the same way. He was distracted with the fight, and dating was the furthest thing on his mind. As a love interest for Angel, you know I think Cordy was the girl for him. Basically, I just don't think that Angel was in a place to realize the potential he could have had with Nina. I mean, he was clueless. It took Wes telling him before be even knew Nina was into him. And I agree that Nina could have been a great ally.

Personally, I thought him and Kate had far more chemistry then him and Nina ever did though. I just felt bad for Nina because she was trying so hard to make it work with Angel, and he was just cold with her.

I liked her, but she was easily the least remarkable romantic interest of the series. Don't know about you, but I found Maria Spider to be much more compelling. It was interesting seeing a love interest who wasn't necessarily good or evil, but who did care about her beau.

Actually, I got the impression at the time that Kate was going to frill one or both of the basic support character slots common to all good detective stories. She could either be Angel's contact on the police force, or the sexy blond who has an ambiguous relationship with him, in the tradition of Sam Spade, Philip Marlowe, and the immortal Mike Hammer.
I never could understand why something didn't develop there.

Just on a side note, Angel seems to have a "thing" for blonds. Darla, Buffy, Kate, Nina, and even (shudder) Cordy at one point.

I didn't really like her. She seemed nice, but honestly, imo she was just plain boring. I didn't see anything interesting about her, and I thought that the Angel/Nina 'ship was flat and monotone at best. No chemistry at all in my mind.

I didn't really like Nina, for obvious reasons I guess. Actually, I would've prefered if they had kept Angel mourning over Cordelia in the entire last season, instead of giving him a new love interest. Nina just had 'rebound girl' written all over her, not exactly the kind of character you can take seriously.

When Season was airing orgininally, we didn't get the channel it came on, and I remember being outraged when my hubby caught an ep over at someone's house and said to me "They gave Angel a girlfriend named Nina... She's a werewolf." I was like "WTF?! No! If it's not Buffy or Cordy I hate her!" LOL
But when I bought Season 5 last summer and actually watched it, I actually love Nina's character, and I thought she and Angel were really cute together. 🙂 I would have liked to see what happened to them post "Not Fade Away".

Oh yeah, Kate was definitely the typical Blond Siren, which really fir the whole noir theme thing the series had going on in the first and second seasons.

I completely agree; why didn't anything develop between Kate and Angel? Basically, Kate was interested in him. They had GREAT chemistry. It was pretty obvious that she was attracted to him. It was when she found out that he was a vampire that she totally shut down. Any chemistry they had ended there. Kate was just not progressive enough to deal with that. She wasn't Buffy, and she wasn't Cordelia. She was a regular girl, trained to fight human crime. Believing in the supernatural went against everything she believed him. Angel opened her eyes to what really existed, but only a little. Even when he saves her life by rescuing her in her shower, its clear their relationship is no longer the same. They shared something, sure, it changed them, but romance? Nah. All that ended when she saw him vamp out. It's like it turned her off from him completely. We never saw her after that. In this scenario, his vampirism worked against him. Nina, on the other hand, thought the fact that he was a vampire was sexy.

I heard somewhere that the actress who played Kate left for another project so they had to write her character off the show. I wonder if the writers had intended for it to go further with the two. It sure seemed like they were setting it up for that. I guess we'll never know.

What I liked about Nina was how in a sense it was a complete return to the original premise of "Angel" - "Help the helpless". I love that she was someone from entirely outside the world of demons and vampires, someone thrown in at the deep end and needing guidance. By this point in the show there was never anyone from outside this world, and that was a pity. That initially there was a chemistry between them makes sense, too, because that happens a lot on S1 also (does he save any men in distress in S1?). He should have been gracious enough to turn her down, really, since she was approaching him out of gratitude and something approaching hero-worship. I think we should have seen more of Nina and her struggles with becoming a werewolf, but I'm not sure they should have developed a romantic relationship.

Especially since, isn't "Smile Time" like the very next episode after "You're Welcome"? That's crazy disrespectful to Cordy's memory (merely days after Cordy dies, Wes is gunning for Angel to ask Nina out) and not even realistic.

Lastly, I think it's bizarre that suddenly Angel can sleep with women, just only if he's not perfectly happy. Suddenly all of his caution down the years becomes "99% of us have to make due with adequate happiness". Like, where did that come from?

actually that was established as far as Ats S1, Angel didn't want to take any risks, & the fact that he knew Buffy was the only one who gave him perfect happiness (even though achieving happiness was hard at that point, the world was close to ending & all).

back on topic, I liked Nina, she was a nice change of pace, she really cared for him, & Angel had feelings for her, but nothing like her.
