Who likes Riley?

He was only jealous because she kept him at a distance. Once he went off his meds how many times did she say 'i cant protect you'
Because she was the slayer she kept him at a distance to 'protect' him like an infant. Of course he would be jealous of this. Once he went off the meds Buffy never looked at him in the same light.

I completely agree!!
I like early season 4 Riley, when he's introduced as a regular guy with a crush on Buffy. He's kinda like a big, adorable doofus. Now that I'm rewatching season 5, I'm so tired of Riley. Especially in the ep "Out of My Mind", when he needs the operation. Everyone tries to help him, but Riley won't listen. He's needy and too aggressive. He even punches Graham! At this point he barely resembles early season 4 Riley that I liked.

hey, you're still alive! welcome back :)
I liked him for the most part but he wouldve been a much better charecter had his storyline not revolved around Buffy. He was great when he showed up in Season6.

He was an interesting character during the first few episodes he was in, but after a while he got annoying. Especially in season 5 when he couldn't deal with not being needed as much as he wanted, and being weaker than Buffy.

lets see, heres my list of Favorite Buffy boyfriends and it will answer your questions

1 Spike
2 Angel
3 Satsu
4 Scott
5 Parker
6 and in last place it would be Riley (yes he does come after Parker)

I don't totally hate him, I mean he is a nice guy, but with Buffy, never

Well Ive been watching season four and hes growing on me my Hate is leaving me. Maybe am liking the look of him without a shirt or how nice he is to Buffy being all farm boy like its nice. You don't see a whole lot of that theese days .

I used to hate him so much because maybe he wasn't Spike or Angel am just glad he ain't Parker. But he does bring the fun for a while and Buffy is all cute when shes around him until he goes off his meds and goes all nutty.

Then he wants to understand why Buffy craves pain and lives in the dark. Nope he didn't stay normal ,went all weird and got vampires to drink his blood to understand he became so pathetic in the end I just felf sorry for him . Because Buffy can't let anyone in . Can't switch off . Poor Riley .

Riley...I have no real problem with. I was happy to see him go at the time though. He was a great lesson for her. They were for each other.

I liked him, I mean yeah he was kind of boring and not my favorite character but I liked him and I prefer Buffy and him as oppose to Bangel. What won me over was how he saw the error of his ways with the Initiative and his belief about Oz and gave up everything for both him and Buffy. It's why I preferred him over Xander who hated Angel from start to finish.

Im not exactly a Ruffy fan 🙂, but Riley was someone Buffy could have a normal life with and that is why i think Buffy pushed him aside, i dont think Riley was right for Buffy because he was a nice guy, as Spike said in normal again "Your so twisted you prefer it down in the dark rather than being happy" (not the exact quote) Ruffy could never work but Riley was a great guy who was truely in love with Buffy and would do anything for her and once Buffy realises that she just treats him as a convinience. I think people need to give Riley some credit and start hating on Buffy.

I personally don not like Riley! I mean, ok he's an ok guy, but really- he's just another guy. I was not impressed with the Initiative. But of course, during season 4 i was missing angel like crazy so maybe its just me but what did you think? This is just MY opinion but i'd like to hear others!:icon12:

I really liked Riley. He was nice, and sweet, and genuinely cared for Buffy. I was honestly sad when they broke up. I believe Riley loved her more then anyone ever had. He was willing to do anything for her. Yet it wasn't her fault that didn't love him back. Sadly, he was the rebound guy and Buffy wasn't at a place to love again yet. (Or you could argue she never loved anyone, really, after Angel)

Buffy basically jerked Riley around because he was "safe" and convienient. I'm not saying she intentionally did this - I think she did really like him, and was honestly sad when he left but...

Even if she had made it to the helicopter...I don't know if she'd been able to say 'I love you'. She probobly would have had nothing to say, and he would have left anyway.

Buffy found some normality in Riley, but she also found someone to whom she could relate. This was important.

Riley was just a regular guy with regular insecurities. He wasn't a superhero. Sure, he's not Angel and he's not Spike - he's sort of boring and beefy and dependable. But that's what Buff needed at that time. She seeked it out. A normal boyfriend.

Plus, I believe Riley's true mission wasn't to "be the slayers sidekick" or to even be in Sunnydale...I'm glad he left actually, because in the long run he's happier.

That's my thoughts on Riley. 🙂

He's OK but he does not compair to angel, although when angel was around things got depressing
I could argue this point. Not all of us are so crazy about Bangel. 🙂

Exactly. 🙂 I just feel sorry for the poor guy.

I liked riley most out of all her boyfriends. Thats if I was choosing for myself. However he was not right for her and i think he was right to leave.

I liked Riley at the beginning, after the Parker episode, its refreshing to see what appears to be, a normal, kind man wanting to get to know Buffy better. And hes cute at the start, getting helpful hints from Willow about how Buffy likes cheese lol 😛 But he does seem likeable in Season 4.
Although in Season 5, he seems to become more needy and attached to Buffy. Especially after his chip is removed, he seems to take little things to heart. Like the scene where Joyce is in hospital, and Riley and Buffy are talking outside the room. Joyce calls for Buffy, and she turns away from Riley to go to her mother, and we see Riley's face where he seems annoyed, disapointed and a range of other emotions, that just seem unfair to Buffy when her mother is in hospital.
Also, another similar situation where Buffy and Riley have just finished making love, Buffy turns away from him to go to sleep, and he then again gets this look on his face, as if she has done something wrong.
Its those times when Riley annoys me, when he's being unfair and just thinking about himself.

I really liked Riley a lot, in Season 4 especially. I do think he became more needy and annoying in Season 5, but part of that, I think, was the writers setting him up for leaving. But for most of his time on the show, I thought he was pretty great. Flawed, yes, but it's clear that he really loved Buffy and was willing to sacrifice a lot to be with her.

Though he is no Angel, I do like him because I think he is genuine & he is more of a man than most guys & a lot more mature. I liked that about him...plus Marc Blucas is pure sex haha 😀

I used to like Riley but now that
he's in league with Twilight in season 8 and is decieving Buffy.
I hope either she or Giles kills him.

eh. I don't really care about him. I didn't like him or dislike him. He was just there, a normal guy that didn't interest me or do anything bad. So, whatever to Riley. I honestly wasn't happy OR sad when Riley left, I just like, "Oh, okay." : laugh :

Riley was a nice guy. In fact, in the normal world, he'd be the kind of guy most women dream of finding; loyal, good-looking, protective, sweet, and the list goes on. The problem was that we didn't want to watch a normal, everyday guy, and we certainly didn't want to watch him with our extroadinary heroine.

His insecurities and fears were immature, yes, but they were understandable. Buffy had a definite problem with relationships in general, and with the way things ended with Angel, she was bound to be completely emotionally unavailable. Riley loved her so much, and the poor guy never got anything back. He realized that there were pieces of Buffy he could never touch, and it drove him to do incredibly stupid things. As Spike said, he was never the long-haul guy, and I think everyone knew that but him--fans included.

In the Buffyverse, demon seeks demon. That's why Cangel only happened after Cordy was demonfied and why the closest thing Angel has to a normal girl is Nina, who is a werewolf. In some ways, Buffy trying to be with Riley was a bit of a perversity of the natural order of things.

Love this point. I hadn't looked at it in quite that way before, but it just... fits.
