Who likes Riley?

Re:

I too was missing Angel in S4, so my initial feelings for Riley were confusing. Aside from being totally HOT..I mean, did you see his arms? Those are good arms to have. 😉 I thought he was polite, proper, attractive, and level headed.....But he just wasn't Angel. Now coming from a girl who ALWAYS used to go for the bad boys...I was a tough critic. LOL...But eventually after watching how Riley treated Buffy and how he totally put himself out there for her, I started to really like him. And I have to say it, but one of the HOTTEST scenes EVER was in "The Yoko Factor". The fight between Angel and Riley? OH yeah baby.

Riley was no more normal than anyone else. There is no such thing as normal. It really irritates me how some fans tend to categorize Riley as this "perfect" guy who wasn't dark or strange enough for Buffy. This is a guy who became an Army officer and later, a demon hunter by choice. What the hell is normal about that? Also, Riley had a slightly bizarre sense of humor that many fans seemed incapable of picking up. Hell, I managed to do that in his first episode.

As for that whole "wasn't enough monster" for Buffy schitck by Spike - I found that to be a load of BS. Just about anyone is capable of being a monster. Hell, Riley was a lot darker than Tara and I don't recall anyone complaining about her "sweet" nature. Or is being "sweet" tolerated in female characters?

The problem with Riley - at least in my eyes - was that he and Buffy were simply too similar in nature for them to be an effective couple. He was better off being her friend, instead of lover. Riley needed someone who was a lot less reserved than Buffy in order to have a balanced relationship. I hope that Sam was it . . . but I don't know much about her.

I never felt any such confusion. Then again, I wasn't sorry to see Angel leave.

Ok, I'm commenting on an old post here, but yeah that to your Riley/Tara coment.
It´s like... S4 Riley was a pain... S5 Riley is kinda creepy, and I feel really sorry for him, he was being a self-centered guy but, he was in pain so I like him there... But S7 Riley was almost sexy xD He was all grown up. So, I think, in the end I like Riley.

But just to make it clear, I hate S4 Riley xD

I never missed Angel because the whole Bangel relationship was kind of annoying in season 3. So I was open for something new.

And at first I really liked Riley. He was sweet, good looking and as normal as a guy can be for Buffy. But then in season 5 he started to get annoying. He just couldn't deal with the fact that Buffy was stronger than him.

The episode "Into the woods" was sad but in the end I thought it was better that way. Plus Spike already had a crush on her then and I was rooting for Spike. :biggrin2:

I LOVE RILEY!!! I'm probably the only Ruffy shipper on BB, but oh well. Riley was the healthiest, most normal relationship Buffy has had. And, yes, she was the one that screwed it up.

He was self-centered?? Why? Because he couldn't revolve his life around Buffy's? He couldn't stand by and be her convenient bed warmer/normal guy?

Buffy's strength was merely a minor hiccup for Riley. He couldn't deal with Buffy shutting him out or treating him like fine china after the drugs fed to him by Dr. Walsh, were purged from him. Riley was a better demon hunter than any of the Scoobies and Buffy had the nerve to insist that he use them as backup when he set out to search for the vampire that had stabbed her in "Into the Woods".

Yes, Riley is to blame for not pointing out the problems in their relationship. And he should not have given her an ultimatum before leaving Sunnydale. But Buffy was just as much to blame for the end of their romance as he was. Probably even more.

Yeah, okay. You're right. I agree. I really do. She always shuts people out and I did feel sorry for Riley. Everytime I watched S5 I yelled at Buffy but the last time I watched it... I don't know. It was like I understood her more. And the fact that he went out and let those vampires suck his blood. It was like he needed that to feel special. I don't know. I just thought it was sick. But I thought what he said when he left was true. Buffy didn't really love him. And she acted like she was the one who got the bad end but Riley did everything and she just wouldn't let him in. And And then she was so mean to Xander, though he just wanted to help. When she didn't get to Riley in time, I just thought: "You're fault if you didn't get it until now"

I never liked Riley. Probably cause I'm all about Angel. I tried to like him, but I just never could. I didn't find him appealing in any way. He was so annoying. Much like Dawn. "Buffy doesn't include me in her life, blah blah blah."

Man, Riley sure gets flack for being the first guy Buffy dates post-Angel. Don't get me wrong, Angel and Buffy are all romeo and juliet and stuff and that's cool but Riley was a really nice guy. I didn't find him annoying or helpless or anything to Buffy. In fact, Riley sometimes gets some great lines on his run during the show. And it was sad how Buffy kind of casted him off to the side.

While I'm a bit of a purista, and therefore always waiting for the cookie dough-goes-cookies moment, Riley grew on me. In the beginning, I was ready to hate everyone and anyone who wasn't Angel, after a while I quite liked him.

At the beginning I actually liked Riley, ya know, when he was all googly eyed over Buffy, but after they got together it all ended. I really feel as though their relationship was always written to be some weird 24 hour sex escapade...not to mention they really didn't have anything in common...at all.

To be honest i didn't like Riley at all when i watched seasons four and five for the first time...although when i started rewatching them he really grew on me and i began to like him. Towards the end of the Biley relationship i really started relating to Riley when he felt that he was being pushed away and shunned out of Buffys life. He loved her so much and nearly everyone's been in a relationship where one person loves the other person more.

I think Riley's cute too! I didn't like Angel much..i think i'm like one of the only people who doesn't...and i thought Riley was better for Buffy, well until he started letting Vampires bite him...but before that he sort of helped keep buffy grounded to the natural world instead of constantly being in the super-natural.

You're not alone. I don't like Angel either.

He's the kind of guy every girl wants I think. But Buffy is not normal and her world is not normal and he just didn't fit into that.
I never thought of him as annoying. He knew that he could never be the type of man she wanted but he clung in there until the bitter end. Hence the selfishness and the whining we had to endure 😛

Riley isn't normal. There is no such thing as a normal person. There is no such thing as a "normal" life . . . unless one lives the life of an automaton. And speaking of whining and selfishness, Buffy, Angel, Spike and the Scoobies could put Riley to shame.

The guy's too much of a douchebag

I understand. That's how I feel about Angel.

He's OK and everything, but... I don't like him at all! I realy don't know why, but he is annoying.

I like Riley. He's very good-looking. I obviously don't condone the ridiculous things he did to Buffy, but he's hot. Let's face facts.

Do you condone the ridiculous things that Buffy did to Riley? Like treat him like fine china, use him as rebound following Angel's departure, or emotionally distance herself from him?
