Who loved Buffy the most?

It came to me i thought, who actually loved Buffy the most?
i know Angel was in love with her obviously, and Spike he was but it was a mix of love/lust and obsession, and with Riley he loved her deeply, but then again Xander has liked/loved her from the start.

what are your thoughts?​

Angel, obviously. Everything he did in the show, prooved him. But maybe Faith loves her too, but she's never shown it. Someone might dont agree with me, but Buffy was her only friend. It's like, Buffy is her everything.

But from Angel, Riley, Spike, Xander, It's definitely Angel. He started to move on after they broke up like 3 years after they broke up. He tried his best, but Buffy was still the only one who made him lost his soul.

Romantically I agree cause like the whole soul getting thing... well hard to beat when one is proving their love but... being a Daddy's girl myself; from way back ~~~

I gotta say Giles. They had their spats and the right decisions weren't always made(like for most of season 7) but Buffy was his life and dude wasn't even her DAD. Sooooo he wins in my book.

And on a similar note Zander who also dedicated his life to her causes when at some point we all know he had to have figured out all he was ever going to be to her was like a brother. But because of the slight tint of obsessiveness that he had to have to hang around he gets points off. (I love him though and especially in the earlier seasons would have loved for the Buffster to give him more of a chance.)

Well, as I have said before, Spike suffered torture for Buffy, something that, as far as I can recall, Angel never really did. Spike protected her sister and worked with the Scoobies during the entire time that Buffy was in heaven AND did everything within his power to help and support her when she came back. Angel went to Tibet to brood. Spike helped Buggy and her friends when he was nothing more than a soulless monster. Without a soul, Angel added an "us" to the end of his name, killed Jenny Calendar, stalked her friends, tortured her Watcher, tried to end the world, and killed Willow's goldfish. Spike died to save the world. Angel had to be killed to save the world. Angel was a self proclaimed champion. Buffy chose Spike over Angel to be her Champion. Spike underwent unspeakable trials and pain to win his soul. Angel, again with that handy "us" on the end of his name, killed an innocent girl and received his soul as punishment.

And before anyone else brings it up, soulless Spike tried to rape Buffy. Did I mention that "tried to destroy the world" thing that Angel(us) did? And which, by the way, Spike, regardless of his motives, helped to stop.

If it's a question of loving someone and earning their love in return, Spike wins hands down. In fact, as far as EARNING someone's love, Spike deserves a whole lot more than Buffy will ever be able to give him or anyone else. But he loves her, he's suffered for her, and, though he deserves much more, he wants her, so I want him to have her, at least until he gets sick and tired of her, Then he drain her, toss the carcass out, and go find someone really worthy of his love. Someone who has been shunned by the "good guys," and never been allowed to live down their dark past, despite how hard and sincerely they work to make amends. (No, not Andrew, I can hear some of you pervs saying it already). Spike is the best, and he deserves the best. Faith.

It's really a tossup between all four:

Angel initially wanted to kill himself to end the risk of unleashing Angelus on Buffy again.

Spike got his soul restored for Buffy (something no other vamp has ever done before)

Riley clearly loved her, he gave up his career for her, and her distance hurt him so much that he turned to vamp junkie hookers.

Satsu "truly" loved her, that's how the spell was broken.

I'd say it's pretty darn close between all of them, with a slight advantage to Angel, because Angel never really moved on.

He loved Cordy, but in order to get to "perfect happiness" with Cordy, he also had to save the world, and still called out Buffy's name!

And the Nina situation was pretty much a relationship about Wes telling Angel he's allowed to have sex with anyone, but Buffy.

Spike on the other hand went after Harmony the second he could after his thing with Buffy.

Riley got married.

Satsu said she's moving on.

And Buffy loves Angel more than the others. A lot more than Satsu and Riley. And marginally more than Spike (Whedon said it himself recently).

If you throw Angelus vs. Soulless Spike into the mix, it's no contest. But Souled Spike vs. Angel is much closer, with the edge going to Angel, imo.

Spike got his soul = Angel was willing to kill himself

Great tought. But what about Giles? I think Giles loved Buffy like a father.

Not to forget that Angel, Riley and Spike moved on away from Buffy while Xander is still by her side.

Why do people always feel the need to ask ultimate questions? Who says any one of them "loved her more" then the other? I agree that all four loved her in different ways. To Xander, she's his hero, his fantasy. But he respects her too much to degrade her in any way. To Angel, she was an idea, a conquest, something he wanted to protect. To Riley, she was his true love, yet he never felt like he was enough for her. For Spike, she was his redemption - loving her inspired him to become a better man. She made her mark on all the men in her life, and all are better for it I believe.

Yes, but this is because, unlike with Angel, Spike or Riley - she had a deep friendship with Xander from the beginning. At the time of Spikes death, Buffy was only starting to realize her feelings for him.

And I'd disagree that Spike "moved on". Are you referring to when he died in "Chosen"? I wanted call that moving on 😉 I believe if he had lived he'd still be fighting by her side and fighting for her, in his own silent, snarky way. After all, he did say that no other girl could mean anything to him.

In regards to Angel, he absolutely did the right thing by leaving. Obviously, it could have never worked with the if he was a vampire, or if the cost was others lives or putting hers in danger (IWRY). Also, Buff could take care of herself, he had his own life to live.

Riley also had good reason to leave. She couldn't say she loved him, and he was living her life - not his. It wasn't right.

A champion deserves a champion.

In response to the actual question; I'm prone to go with Spike. I mean, he fought to get a soul for her, to 'give her what she deserved', he protected Dawn when he didn't have too, he allowed himself to be her punching bag and shoulder to cry on, and he loved her without a soul. He died to save the world she was in.

Me! Pfft...obviously!

In a way I think this is a bit of a pointless question, as if whoever loved Buffy more gets her. It doesn't work that way and when you take into consideration all the various types of love...it just seems like mote point.

However,

No, of course, if that's what I meant, then it's like saying Tara moved on from Willow after she died.

I meant Spike not going to see Buffy in AtS S5, as well as the end of The Girl in Question when he and Angel decided to move on and stop chasing Buffy and fighting over her.
