Who many times did she die?

I'm having a bity of a conflict with my little brother here, because on an on-line Buffy-quiz, one of the questions was

How many times has Buffy died?
(A) 0
(B) 1
(C) 2
(D) 3

The quiz' creator and my brother (ignorant annoying little child) say 3, I say 2 times. What do ya'll think?
 
I'd have to agree with you there Allycat. As I remember it, she has only died twice: when she was killed by the Master and also when she jumped into that portal opened by Dawn.
 
Yeah, only two. It can't be a trick question for all of us Buffy-fanatics 'cause we know we're right.😛 It's possible the quiz creator just made a mistake.
 
As I said I'd go for 2, so the QuizMaster was probably mistaken, but my brother said he understood why he/she went for 3, because he said, that Angel biting her was also a death ... I say nonsense, and you!
 
She didn't die, she just lost a lot of blood. She was near death, but no that doesn't count because her heart didn't stop or anything. She only died twice.
 
2...thats so easy. The quiz maker just got mixed up or something. maybe they counted that time she died in 'the gift', even though it wasnt real.
 
what episode did she die in with the master killing her??? i think i remember but not sure. also were they in their real demension when it happened??
 
Smackmydolphin just reminded me, but could the quiz be refering to The Wish. Technically, Buffy did die in that episode. So maybe saying she died three times wouldn't be completely wrong.
 
it is 2 times...buffy said it herself in the ep "Once more with feeling"....in the song "I've got a theory" she sang "Hey I've died twice". So there you have it. The creator was probably just stupid or they tried to be over technical....but its def 2.
 
ok ok...it is neccesarily 2.....in "the gift" and whenever with the master...BUT the master drowned her once...and xander gave her breath back....and then in "the wish" in cordeilas wish to anya....buffys neck was snapped...soooooo it was 2...if u count the wish not being "real".
 
it would be no times if you consider the whole buffy world fake and she's in the mental hospital...😀...just thought i would throw that into the mix....
 
This is getting quite complicated, didn't see her as a vamp too, in some different dimension, because vamps are dead too!
 
Oh!! Yeah, in "Nightmares" Season 1, Gile's nightmare is that Buffy dies, and her nightmare is she's a vampire. It's unclear whether events in that episode really happened, or if they were hallucinations.

So we have some choices. Buffy died:

0 times if you believe Normal Again is the actual reality.

2 times if you count only the deaths that happened in Buffy's Actual reality, which isn't Normal Again.

4 time if you count all deaths in all realities: Nightmare, Prophecy Girl, The Wish, and The Gift.

2!!!! "Hey I died twice!" However she sang that not knowing that she had died in an alternate dimension thing...

If he the quiz person meant "how many times have we seen Buffy killed" then we could include "The Wish" IMHO! In that case I'd assume we would count turning into a vamp in "Nightmare" and any other dream sequences where we see her death if there are any. When she had nightmares about the Master killing her do we see her die at all? The Graduation Day biting doesn't count though.

Confusing myself! I still stick by 2! The Wish was an alternate reality & in this reality she died twice!

D_9th, you've pretty much exactly summed up what I'm thinking. 🙂 But even though I get why you went straight from 2-4, depends on if you count every reality, you could also add on the possibility of three deaths, because the Nightmares death could have seemed to have actually happened, since it was in Buffy's reality and she did die, she became a vampire for a little while, and then time just seemed to continue. So if you count that death but not the death in The Wish, because that was in an alternate reality and time went back as if it had never happened, then you get 3 deaths. 😀
