If we believe that the current spoilers are accurate, Spike makes his return in ghostly form at the end of 5x01. As the story goes, Spike comes out of the amulet which Angel finds in an envelope on his desk. The question is, who sent him the amulet?

As I recall it was buried when the hellmouth caved in. And considering that the whole of Sunnydale came down on top of it, digging it out from all that debris is one hell of an achievement, (no pun intended). So who, or what is responsible?

My money's on The First. Think about it. It's grand plan may have gone down in flames, but it's still out there somewhere. Maybe it still has some plan for Spike?

My guess is this could be the start of a new multi-season meta-plot. If you really think about it, the Conner storyline really started in the season 1 finale with the return of Darla, so epic story arcs are not unprecedented in the Buffyverse.

So, what does everyone else think?

well this season is more about single episodes, thus their wont be that many story arcs leading up to something big, its going to be like Charmed.

I dont think that The First is behind it, but maybe The lawfirm tried to find it and well they have the money and time

I have to agree that it won't have to do with the First but I wouldn't doubt that if they don't answer that in the begining that it will be left as a niffty surprise when they find a 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon sort of way to work it in for later.

Even Charmed has threaded stories, although not on the same scale as Angel or Buffy, (i.e. one episode leading directly into the next). I can understand the reason for doing the series primarily as single episodes, but I think there will be story arc in one form or another, even if it's so sublte that we don't even realise it's an arc until the last piece falls into place.

The only reason I suggested The First's involvement is that it's something that I don't feel has really been resolved. There's a history between The First and Angel, not to mention Spike. Since Angel has to have a finale eventually, it'd be a shame to let the opportunity of the story go to waste.

^lol. YEAH! It's as easy as that! 😉

But to tag onto something said earlier, you could say that the arc of the first 4 seasons were about Jasmine's coming to Earth (if she was the one giving the visions to the vision holder). If she wasn't the one giving the visions, then never mind! I'm insane.

no, I do not think you are insane. It was established (if Jasmine can be believed) that she was behind everything that happened to Angel since he came back from the Acathla universe, from season 3 of Buffy and all the seasons of Angel (except for his torture by the First in Amends). But I am hoping that Spike's return is more benevolent. That he is sent back as a reward of some sort, in other words that his return is not due to some "EVIL" source. I really don't care though, I am just glad to have more Spike!

Nice spoilers about the return of Spike. It probably will happen something like that. I really haven't been guessing too much on his return because I haven't come across enough information to make a guess. Thanks for the info!!😀 😀

Actually I think the real reason is that James Marstars was the only one that hadn't found another project and that wouldn't mind doing a few more years of it. So instead of bringing Willow, Xander, or Faith back.....They simply bring back Spike!

Eve is the new face at W&H, (so, presumably evil).

Here's another thing I just noticed. In the season 5 production photos currently doing the rounds on the net, Spike is shown with his vampire face. So let me see if I've got this right. Spike is now a resurrected non-corporeal vampire with a soul? That's gotta be a new one!

I think the amulet is pure W&H doing, I think they wouldn't disregard sending a hundred people down to sunnydale to dig!!
