Who practices Lent?

I'm not entirely sure the religions of everyone on the board, I know we are a mixed bunch. I happen to be a Catholic, raised that way since I was little. Maybe I'm not the ideal person in the eyes of Catholicism, what with the being gay, but I'll leave it up to God to judge that.
Being Catholic, I take part in the yearly Lent. Last year I gave up junk food and spending money, two things I enjoy all the time.
This year, I wanted it to be something I cherished more than both of those. I thought to myself, "What have I done or used most in the past year?" The answer? Buffy. I have spent so much time here since I joined last April. I've met a lot of awesome people, discussed many a debateful topic, and seen some of the best art in my life.
So I decided that the thing I cherished most was the 'Verse. Buffy/Angel, all Whedon. It was a hard choice, I made it months ago, and I know it's going to be difficult. I will be giving all my DVDs, comics, Cds, and trading cards to my dear friend Iyesha to hold for me during Lent. I unbookmarked Buffy-Boards from my computer, took the episodes and songs from my iPod, the whole nine yards.
It's going to be the hardest thing I've ever done. I love it here so much, and I'm going to miss everyone. It's only from February 17 until the 3rs of April, but that is a long time. I've turned all of the notification emails and such, so the world of Whedon will be dead to me, but still in my heart. I'm going to miss you all dearly. I have the best friends here. That being said, who else participates in Lent? What are you giving up this year?

If my chosen religion wanted me to give up what I like I'd get rid of it. But then again, that could be because when I was a Quaker I was 'politely asked' not to go into a church of England church. Just because my values lay elsewhere.

While I'm not a practicing Catholic, I do participate in Lent. I haven't decided what I'm giving up yet, tho...and I only have a couple of days! I gave up smoking at the beginning of the year, and that was HUGE for me....so I'm at a loss at to what I could top that with.

I'm not Christian, so Lent doesn't really apply to me. I like the idea of giving up something you enjoy for a while, though.

I'm not a technically a practicising Catholic but I do take part in Lent every year. Although we Irish always have a loop hole because Paddy's Day falls in the middle of lenght. We get that day off 😛

I'm not a Catholic but one year I participated in Lent with friends of mine who were. I gave up junk food and lost 10 pounds; maybe I should do that again this year! LOL

I was so happy this year because I gave up chocolate for Lent and for the first time I stuck to it! 🙂

I'm not Catholic, I'm Episcopal Protestant (The Church Of England BTW) and we don't do lent or any Catholic things. However, my mom's Catholic and she does lent sometimes so I've heard of it before.
