As much as I love the thought of Buffy having her father figure (Giles) with her mother Joyce. I think he belonged with Jenny.

Anya for sure. Totally cute! I know it's weird, but I don't care 😉

Joyce all the way. Joyce/Giles are like the ultimate couple in the Buffyverse for me. I know as regards to the storyline it would never have worked for the show and I don't just think they go together on a basic 'Giles is Buffy's Father figure so...' level. They actually match and have a lot of shared interests- plus they look cute as a couple. They belong together, dammit!

(And hugs all round for anyone else who has said that! 😉)

I know this is an old post, but I had to agree! With all of it! I've said the same thing.
plus any Joyce/Giles coupling would lead to more stories about their interesting youths, and that's always a winwin situation 🙂

I chose Joyce, but, I'd also like to say
"cause you're very very old and it's gross" so I don't want to think too much about it.

Hard to say. i chose joyce but its a tie between her and Jenny. i loved their chemistry in band candy but passion was one of the hardest ep's to watch.

I truly have no idea if an who Giles should be with... I don't think he's met the woman of his life yet, but I'm not sure if he ever will.

I dunno, but I can't imagine Giles as natural as with Jenny.
It's with Jenny he'd turn into shy teenager, it's with Jenny he'd lose himself unto passion, it's she for who he grieved the most, as I remember Joyce death was a bit less painful for him (if I may dare here to even compare). I just feel, Jenny's death was the most brutal, painful stroke of the Fate.
As for Joyce, if they had anything besides sudden attraction between them, why didn't they get together in 4 and 5 seasons? What's up with whole Olivia thing?

I like answering rhetorical questions. Gives me something to do, hehe. And pfft- be off with you, you Jenny-Preferrerer..er. :p haha

Joyce and Giles actually getting together whether you believe it would have been great for both characters (Which I do think in case you didn't know, haha) it would have never worked for the storyline Buffy-wise. It would have either detracted the series' attention AWAY from Buffy and onto them two (Though that would mean more Giles so I wouldn't complain there...) or, as Joss hates leaving couples happy for too long, something would have happened to break them up which would have caused Buffy, who would automatically and obviously side with her Mother, to fall out/ estrange herself from Giles which wouldn't have worked either.

So practically if we look at it on a basic storytelling level Joyce and Giles could never have worked, but on a romantic don't-bother-thinking-of-show-complications-aspect they would have been perfect. And that's why unfortunately we never see it obviously beyond Band Candy and Forever (Though there's hintage in Killed by Death, Gingerbread, Dead Man's Party, Crush, Blood Ties....). Forever was Giles definitely mourning a lost love. Whenever someone he loves dies he turns to anger or the bottle. And since there was no one to get angry at this time he turned to the bottle and his memories. If that's not a sign of love, I don't know what is.

I live in ignorance of Olivia. But I think it was Giles in his go-between time, trying to find some identity. Apparently starting with seducing women. And hey, we only didn't see Joyce much that season because Kristine was in Italy- didn't mean Joyce wasn't still seeing the characters, including Giles, every week. Whose to say Olivia was the only woman Giles was having his way with that season? I mean Buffy didn't see him half as much as usual that year....

Those were mere rhetorical questions. ;) I got your point. Still, I prefer Jenny
Jenny was the one for Rupert. they seemed perfect together, kind of like willow and oz/tara

I know I've already voted on here and posted twice, but just had to pop in and say how I love the fact that Joyce is so kickin' ass on this poll. I had no idea we had some many closet Joyles shippers, haha 😉

Joyce would be logical. Giles being a fatherfigure to Buffy and all, but no. The realtionship with Jenny was great and are so close to getting my vote, but you just can´t beat an "orgasmfriend". So Olivia gets my vote. (Oh please tell me I´m not mixing the names now. Stupid memory!)

Nah, who am I kidding. He belongs with Jenny. But since she´s dead he should spend the rest of his life with Olivia.

*Raises hand tentatively.*

Me?

I kid.

I really liked Giles and Jenny. I really liked Giles and Joyce. Joyce gets my vote, though, if only because we never really got to see how that would have developed. I really think they could have been well-matched - not only as Buffy's parent and parental figure, but as two intelligent, educated people who knew what it was like to have to start over from square one, to have made youthful mistakes, to live in a supernatural world, to have to make the hard decisions, to sort of be on the outside looking in at the Scoobies, etc. etc. I think it was more than attraction. I think they genuinely liked and respected each other, too. I just think that their mutual love of Buffy caused them to stay apart for her sake. I admire them for their restraint but, at the same time, I really wanted to see them get together and give it a go.

All round agreement. I don't like them together on the basis of parental figures but on similarities, shared interests and as you said mutual respect. They also had the same love for Buffy...which is really what kept them apart. Ironic.
