Who should have ended up with Buffy

Spike. She obviously loved him at the end with his soul and all. I kinda wish Spike would have just done what she said and taken the thing off after killing the ubervamps and escaped with Buffy and the others. 🙁 Then Buffy could've told him that she meant it when she said she loved him.

I think Buffy should have ended up with Angel.

I get that Angel was Buffy's first love and that they always have a place in your heart, but Buffy still loved Angel at the end of Season 7. They had been seperated for more years than they were together but they still had that love for each other. So I think, even though Angel was her first love, if its still there after 7 years, he's gonna be her only love 🙂

I think Buffy cares for Angel as most people always will for a first love, but Buffy was young when she was with Angel and person's concept of love and what it is changes and solidifies as they mature and Buffy wasn't the same from Season 1/2ish to Season 7. What I'm saying is that she loves them both Angel as her first love and ideal and she loves Spike as a more matured women--two different things. In the end, she should end up with Spike as she loves him as an adult and not a child.

Ok...here's the situation. Buffy was all about the love for Angel, and technically they just held each other the night before. nothing more, and it meant something, but it's Angel. There's always got to be a kiss with Angel, they transcend all else.

Spike can be grouchy, but in the end he should know better than to get in between the two of them...he said so himself in Season 3

I think Spike deserved buffy!! i didnt like it when she kissed angel though 🙁 it wasnt fair to spike

Yeah, but don't forget: She went to Spike after that to spend the night with him. But yeah. it wasn't fair what she did to Spike. But it all turned out to be okay in the end.

Well, when you think about it, Spike did care more than Angel did.

When Spike DIDN'T have a soul he loved Buffy, and he even cried when she died after she'd abused him and basically told him he was an evil soulless monster that had no chance with her.

Angel found out Buffy died and went to hang out with some monks, came back and fell for Cordy.

You make a good point.

And just because someone is your true love, it doesn't mean that person is who you're meant to be with, regardless of the passion. And lots of couples break up yet still remain friends, and that's how I see Buffy/Angel.

Spike may have not been right for Buffy either, but as far as her relationships within the series go, I think they were better suited for each other in the end. But honestly a human/vampire romance is stupid, and hopefully Buffy later moves on and finds someone mortal.

Well, it wasn't really even a possibility to be with someone mortal before all the potentials in the world were activated she was the Chosen One of Two, and we saw it in that Angel episode, "I'll Never Forget" or "I'll Remember You" or something, when Angel became human, he wouldn't be able to help her in any of the fighting.

Now that there's hundreds or maybe even thousands of slayers, it doesn't become so much of an issue if one retires to settle down with a man.

Actually, I feel Buffy deserves neither Angel, nor Spike. Given the amount of crap she gave the both of them and her own personal damage/issues, she's not a healthy relationship for either Angel or Spike.

Its going to suck for both Angel and Spike, who'll always carry a torch for Buffy, even post Immortal nonsense, but Angel with Nina is much healthier, even a Spike with Illyria has a chance to be more healthy, than either with Buffy.

Make no mistake, Buffy is a great hero, but on the flipside she's almost a consumer of souls herself. She takes what she needs from people to keep doing her job.

Well, to be honest, Angel was a wussy bitch. He'd pull a fit and start crying like a baby when Buffy used to say something about him being a vampire.

Buffy would turn Spike into a walking talking lump of purple bruise and he'd still tell her he loved her more than anything.

Angel = wimp.

Buffy and Spike are meant to be together! People all talk about Angel and Buffy being 'true love' and 'soul mates' but what do those terms even mean? For me, buffy and angel are just an idealised version of love that isn't actually even real.
#1 - the whole curse thing is a real impediment, they can't have an intimate relationship without risking the return of Angelus. She's a sexual gal, and a life without sex wouldn't be that appealing!
#2 - they were the equivilent of a high school romance. It ended, they moved on. he left town. he didn't stay and fight at her side - he went to find his own destiny without her.
#3 - he had the chance of being human, but you know, at the end of the day it wasn't enough for him. He had the chance to make all of his and Buffy's dream of a 'normal relationship' come true. but he chose not to. (i know that some argue that his giving up humanity in IWRY is a great noble act but i don't read it as such). He needs to see himself as the 'protector' even if buffy didn't need it, he wants the girl, not the slayer - he dosen't get that they are a package deal. he says in this ep. that he did it to protect her, to watch her back - but he does neither of those things! he got his humanity back for his own need to have a destiny in order to make up for his past deeds. Not allowing Buffy to remember the lost day traps her into still longing for this idealised 'forever love' which he has categorically rejected. it would have been better for him to tell her about it afterwards, (like he told doyle) - but he dosen't because then he knows that buffy would hate him for it. It's all very manipulative really. No 'true love' there

Spike and Buffy are so much better together.
#1 -they know each othere extremely well, faults and all, the good, the bad and the ugly and they still like each other
#2 - they have great physical chemistry. Great Muppity Odin, she misses the sex!
#3 - they share complete trust
#4 - they communicate very well with each other
#5 - he fights at her side, never leaves her to face things alone, never leaves town (well, there was that one time...to get a soul)
#6 - he gets that she's both slayer and woman and knows you don't get one without the other
#7 - spike will shanshu and, in the long run, he'll be human

I think the cookie dough speech in chosen finally shows that buffy has grown up and accepted that her and Angel is a thing of the past - i always took her last words to him as like consolation, like, sorry, don't want to hurt your feelings, but i've got my champion... I think its this which allows her to not trust Angel when he's at W&H (as said in Damaged and Shells), she's not blinded by idealised love anymore.

Points to think about. That's rare. :)
Angel, 100%. I love Spike, and I love Buffy/Spike, but not the way that I love Buffy/Angel.

Alright here are some valid points for Spuffies

1. In "First Date," Buffy says she can't figure out why people think she "still," loves Spike, insinuating she did love him at one time.

2. Spike went to the cave demon and endured a series of trials to get his soul for buffy; Angel had a soul forced upon him. A curse made Angel a better man, whereas Spike became a better man through his love of Buffy

3.Spike fell in love with Buffy when he was souless. When Angel lost his soul he felt no love for her whatsoever

4. You should compare season 6 Spike with Angelus, and season-7 Spike with souled Angel

5. Angel took advantage of an 16 year old girl. Spike was sleeping with an adult woman so it was more mature.

6.Angel and Buffy had a high school romance and her love for him was nothing more than infatuation. Spiek aqnd buffy's love was a grown-up, more realistic one.

7. When buffy died Angel went to a monastary to work out his grief; Spiek was devasted and watched over Dawn like he said he would.

8. By the end of season 7 Buffy was telling important things like she did for angel. Also, she was simply lying in bed with Spike, engoying being near him, rather than needing their connection to be about sex.

9. In "Chosen", Buffy chose Spike to be the hero and sent Angel away

10. At the series finale, Buffy did mean it when she said she loved him- she had finally seen that he was a true hero and ashe loved him for it.

Now here are some valid points for Bangels

1. In selfless, Buffy talks about Angel and says, "I loved him more than I will love anything in this life."

2. Back in 1996, When Angel first saw Buffy, he snapped out of his brooding and immediatley saw in her a purpose and fighting for the greater good.

3. In Forever, it's Angel who shows up to comfort her at her mothers grave. They simply hold hands.

4. Angel left because he believed staying would be too hard on her. Also in "I will rember you", he gave up on happiness with her so that buffy might live.

5. Buffy was shattered when Angel was sent to hell; moments after Spiek's death she was smiling.

6. The only time Buffy ever said she loved spike was at the end; and she probably meant it as a decleration of admiration not love. Buffy professed her love to Angel on several occcasions.

7. Buffy's connection with Spike was only about sex, she had many long serious discussions with Angel about her future (or lack thereof), her deepest fears, and love for him.

8.Spiek and Buffy were in a mutually destructive relationship. Buffy admitted to spike she simply used him and, he said he didn't care. She was trying to feel something tangible.

9. Buffy might of told Spike that their night together was special, but the moment she sees Angel she's in his arms kissing him passionatly. proving it's still Angel who makes her knees go weak.

10. Spiek tried to rape buffy, and she says to him, "Ask me again why I could never love you."

11.Buffy might have been young when she was with Angel but she was mature beyond her years, and their relationship was based upon communication and understanding from the start. Conversly, it took years for her relationship with Spike to develop.

Whew! That took a while!

nice list! :)
Everyone who wants Buffy and Angel to end up together seem to be overlooking one single constant in the Buffyverse: first loves NEVER work out there. May I point out a few? How about Giles and Jenny? Xander and Cordy? Willow and Oz? Willow and Tara (Willow manages to qualify for two first loves due to gender). Granted, these are probably not always "first" loves in the truest sence of the word. Certainly, Giles and Jenny had probably both been around the block a few times before they met, but not on the show.

If none of those first loves could survive the guillotine of Joss' creative sadism, why should anybody ever think Buffy and Angel have any chance to break the curse?

Because of this
BUFFY
I do… sometimes think that far ahead.
ANGEL
Sometimes is something.
BUFFY
It’ll be a long time coming. Years, if ever.
ANGEL
(smiles)
I ain’t getting any older…

It's kanga-logic 😉

if you want to look at it that way, its not as if their second loves worked out either. joss does not like couples to stay together in the whedonverse. buffy and riley broke up, xander and anya broke up, willow and kennedy could still break up. being second or third loves does not mean that you will stay together. there could still be a fourth or fifth love in store for someone, as there could be for buffy. and who knows, maybe after they've grown and changed and become new people, that could be angel for buffy. and if its not, then hey, i dont hate spuffy :silly:.

Well said. Everyone breaks up! And I'm also a spuffy fan.. almost as much as Bangel
is it my imagination or are Bangle fans really traditional romantics and Spuffy fans not?

agree or disagree?

I don't know because I enjoyed both. Spuffy was very romantic once Spike was ensouled.
