Hmmmm, it's hard to say. Cordelia is definitely the heart and soul of the operation, so she's my first thought. But then it's a toss up between Wes and Doyle.
 
I think cordelia and doyle, and for some reason I only think of series 1, as it seemed more like a true PI company then as they very rarely dealt with non case things, unlike later series, if that makes any kind of sense lol

I like #1, but I can't discount #2, either. Wes was a part of AI for me, fighting alongside Angel. It was Wesley who translated the Nyazian Scrolls, too, so I'll forever love him for To Shanshu in LA.
 
Tough question. Option number 1 is the original so it is tought to discount. Then again though I probably have to go with Angel, Cordy, Wes, and Gunn. You could also have an option for Cordy, Wes, and Gunn.
 
Its Just to me....Doyle Cordy and Angel felt like a bona fide detective agency.....it still felt like one till Shanshu in LA....but after that it was more like a Demon hunter team.......and the second Angel fired them and Wes took over it lost all resemblance to AI....i mean i love the later groups...but its those initial two that have me battling myself.

pretty good point. Like the first post says...when I hear "Angel Investigations" outloud I think of Angel, Cordy, and Doyle. I think it has alot to do with that commercial too.

Me too. They were both important to me, in different ways. Doyle brought Angel out of his shell a little and gave him a reason to get out in the world. Wesley kept him out there. Hmmmm, I'm just not saying this right......
 
I was never a huge fan of season 1 (even though I did like Doyle). When I think Angel investigation I think Angel, Cordelia, Wesley, Gunn, Fred. But I was really close to forgetting Fred. I love fred oh so much but I'm automatically thinking of season 2 when the gang is Cordy, Gunn and Wes. I just love those three together so much, and that's when Angel Investigation became a real team and real group (in my head).

I definitely think of Angel, Cordelia, and Doyle. They're the original Angel Investigations, and after Doyle died, they didn't seem so much like a detective agency anymore.
 
I guess it will always be the core group for me, but Wes and Doyle will have to share! Angel, Cordy, Doyle/Wes. Why did Doyle have to die, dammit? It's so unfair! Wesley definitely brought much needed talents to the team (archaic languages for one, and the ability to look supremely dorky next to Angel's sauveness, LOL!) but Doyle has the benefit of being there first.
 
Epihany! That's the real AI in action.

Doyle was fun and all, but felt like something not quite as original as the rest of Whedons characters. The real AI are Angel, Cordy, Wes and Gunn. They're the fantastic four.
 
When I hear AI the ones that come to mind are Angel,Cordy,Doyle,and Wesley.Because it was in season 1 that it felt like a real detective agency.After that,it just felt like a group of people fighting evil and averting the apocalypse.

i have to say Angel, Cordy,and Wes. They were the main people in that delt with Angel Investagations. I chose Wes over Doyle beacuse Wes ran it for a period of time. But Doyle is still IMO one of the members of AI.
 
This was a very tough one, because there are so many integral characters.

I chose Angel, Cordelia, Wes, Gunn and Fred. They are like the core 5. It was hard to choose between that group and the original. On one hand, the original three started it, but on the other hand, those five characters really took it to where it needed to be.
