Who Told Dawn?

Maybe this has been covered before and I just either missed it or have forgotten, but was it ever established exactly how Dawn found out about the attempted rape? She obviously does know, or she wouldn't be threatening Spike with the burning bed treatment within moments of his entering the house for the first time in Season 7.

I really can't see Buffy telling her, especially after planning to have Spike protect Dawn after it all happened, not because of any actual fear for Dawn's safety from Spike, but simply because she obviously wouldn't want to deal with him after what happened. So, who told her, or do we know for sure?
 
Xander always struck me as a pretty big gossip. I'd imagine he would have told just about everyone.
 
I'd say Buffy did, I dont think she'd let Xander tell everyone, and everyone would have been asking where Spike was for months and why he'd left.

It's possible Xander told everyone, but I think it would have only been becasue buffy allowed it, not that she gave the okay, more so that if she didn't want him to say it she could have stopped him, but maybe didn't want to say it herself, so let him to do the actual telling.

Either way I think Buffy was in control of how the information came out
 
Yes I also believe Buffy was in control of the info here. Xander might have been a gossiper, and since he hated Spike the AR gave him a pretty good reason to spread his hate to every body else, but I don't think he would have disrespected Buffy like that.

I think Dawn probably saw that something was wrong and made up some conclusion as to why Spike was gone, and then asked Buffy about it. Mostly I think Dawn figured it out somewhat by herself and Buffy explained it to her after.

Oh maybe he did, must have missed that detail :S If he did I'm disappointed in him, it wasn't his place.
 
I distinctly remember her being told about it at the end of Season 6. Is my mind playing tricks on me?
 
Oh yeah Xander did, in the last or second last episode he says something like "if he's not to busy trying to rape Buffy" and Dawn doesn't believe him, I'd say she went to Buffy for confirmation after that though over the summer.

Yeah, Xander blurted it out in anger. Totally not his place to do so but understandable. I'm guessing Buffy was the one who told Xander.

Thanks for the quote Brinkster130, I remember him saying that now. Xander pretty much knew from when he walked in the bathroom, by the way Buffy was sitting and the bruises, it was pretty evident what had happen.

I would have been pretty mad if I was Buffy and learned that my best friend blurred that out to my little sister.

It was during Dark Willow spree and he was walking Jonathan and Andrew to safety

Thanks. I didn't recall that, but it does seem like something that Xander would do. The reason that I didn't think Buffy would have done it was, illogical as this might seem, she wouldn't want to be responsible for breaking up Spike and Dawn's friendship. I don't know if she would go so far as to belabor Xander for spilling the beans in that way, but I do believe that she was less than happy with him about it.

As others have said, Xander blurted it out to Dawn. I could be wrong, but does she not then bring it up with Buffy when they were down in the grave before the earth monsters attacked? I could be wrong, but I'm sure she said something about "You should have told me what Spike did to you", and Buffy replies something along the lines of she didn't want Dawn to have to know, she wanted to protect Dawn from the world, etc. leading to the discussion they then had when Dawn pointed out that she couldn't?

I may just be making the above up, but if I am, I imagine that Dawn still confirmed it with Buffy. Is it ever referenced in front of the other Scoobies, BTW? (Willow, Anya, Giles) In which case, since they were never told about it on the screen, I wonder whether Buffy told her friends, or whether Xander or Dawn slipped it out.
